Autoguide.com writes: With recent reports that development costs are driving up the price of the FT-86 sports car, Toyota is rumored to be planing to bring a smaller and less powerful version of the FT-86 to market. According to Road & Track it will be roughly 150-inches (3.81 meters) in length and should cost $5,000 less than the currently planned model - meaning it will be available for less than $20,000. read more: http://www.autoguide.com/auto-news/2010/05...rom-toyota.html
Engine choice sounds weak but could have serious potential after an engine swap. Could also prove very successful with the FT-86s original younger target market. -------------------- Take back the web [GetFirefox]

Sounds more like what they were going to do originally, the thing kinda ballooned once the Subaru connection became solid. -------------------- |

not really worth it, it may be cheap but for alot less a younger person I.E P plater can get a N/A skyline or even import a GT Apex sprinter for half the pric if not even less. mabey if it came out with a more powerful engine, a 2zzge I think it is or whatever the vvtl-i engine is would be good at about 140kw's.

i'd never be able to afford one new but in 5 or so years when they are down about 13-15k i'd consider one with some kind of 4cyl twincam. plus by that time i'm guessing there will be a plethora of aftermarket bits and people will know how to get the most out of them for the smallest $$$$

Surely they can get 150bhp from 1500cc with modern technology, after all this is meant to be a high-performance sports car, not a re-shaped Prius!
My Altezza makes more than 100bhp/litre and that's over 10years old now. It certainly sounds better than the Subaru camel. -------------------- |

It certainly sounds better than the Subaru camel. sure they could get that much power out of it but they probably could not make it to comply with the emissions standards now as Australia is now on euro 6 standards I think? which japan does not have to follow i'm pretty sure, and your car was made 10 years ago when the emission standards where lower. So as good as the idea is to beef it up they would just scrap doing that which is the same reason they scraped the boxer engine. |
