Yes, big congrats to Mel. What an honour

I know of a couple of *nameless* people who are driving again this year who took a rentacar for a 2800km excursion around Tasmania to update pacenotes

Break a leg ! We hope this is a good year for Redwarf Motorsport
Good luck Mel!

Hehe, maybe should clarify - article was like a brief about Targa Tas, no names mentioned or anything... But everytime I think of Targa Tas I think of Mel... Or maybe it's the other way around... And I think I think of Targa Tas all the time. Does that mean I think of Mel all the time?

good luck datgirl
that'd be so much fun
i hear there's going to be a targa qld type of event coming up in july or something...out dalby/carnell way...should be interesting
I WISH I was driving!! but to be able to drive you not only have to pass a set of criteria and qualify but you have to submit an application to be invited to drive!! You car has to be "just so" and of a special sporting marque etc. It's ridiculously competitive even just to get in. They get many entrants from Japan and other countries too. Which is why it is such an honour to be navigating. Peter Brock and Jim Richards are both in our class!!!!!
I'm lucky enough to be in a 1997 Nissan Skyline R33 gtr v-spec N1 sponsored by help.org.au (click on the "racing team" button). John Atherton is my driver and I've only met him once but a really REALLY nice guy who happens to have lots of $$$ but spends his time working on the (non-profit) help.org.au concept.
I'm just really really really really lucky, I'm getting big butterflies just thinking about it again. Anyway, enough of that! I'd just better not stuff up!!!

Ray's Westfield (that John navs in) is soooo cool. Mmm for S2000 power and lots of carbon fibre!
Nick
Apr 8 2004, 11:56 AM
Its awesome. John showed me some footage of it chasing down a Porsche and 300ZX at Targa !
S2000 power meant they could go faster than 180 kph on the corners ! 180kph being the limit of the old 6 speed + 20Valve 4A-GE that it used to run.
Mean little beast

But my tip is to watch the Giocattolo

Yeah I'm going for Ray. That Westfield of his is sssssssoooooo fuggin fast its unbelievable. He is in the Westfield club as am i (have a Westfield 4age 20v ready for rego very very soon) and i have seen it at a track day. and HOLY SHIT! So much faster then the other westfields!
One of the stages, 99 bend out of queenstown i think its called, he was faster then jim richards porsche through the stage. Faster then everyone!
So i will be behind Ray all the way!

Nick

It is with great sadness that I report that Datgirl and co, in the help.org.au skyline gtr (car 835) have had to retire from Targa with terminal engine failure.

Still, she had two and a half days of excessive speed. I'm sure she will give a report when she gets back...

Once a Datsun, always a Datsun...

Poor old GTR
Can I hazard a guess at oil surge problem causing early retirement?
andrew
May 2 2004, 08:58 PM

hah hah good one!
Redwarf
May 2 2004, 09:39 PM
Reason for retirement was supplimentry viewing holes in block, followed by short lived BBQ, I believe....
Nick
May 2 2004, 10:37 PM
Shit, not good at all
Viewing holes in block are bad mmmkay
I have been told that the most common problem for GTR's is oil surge due to the layout of the sump (one driveshaft for the front tyre actually goes through the sump to save space)
In any case, very sad news
