  1. Damn straight I will! There's a small cult following down in Hobart, proportionate to the population :lolcry: Actually quite a few mates grabbed some when they were being sold at KMart (before the soft cocks put a halt to stocking them!), but only a couple still go out and slide. Mt. Wellington here would be insane, as would Strickland Avenue nearby, but we'll have to head there early in the morning to avoid traffic and possible sudden death
  2. Cheers mate. I can't wait either - it's the next thing to be done as soon as my lowered Pedders arrive  Only an inch lower though, so one coil is getting the chop, or they'll be recompressed. After suspension, paint and fender mirrors are installed  I am running a poll on my blog right now man, so go vote on the style you'd prefer to see (personally I'd be keen for a double-slashcut 'zorst on a 45 degree angle  Dead set man, they're insane. I sourced some green machine wheels from a mate in VIC, I now have 4 pairs! I'm selling 2, so let me know if you want any. They're a nice upgrade.
  3. Today I got around to fitting the rev.1 KE30 grille and twin headlights. Whilst straightforward, the conversion required cutting off the old brackets which supported the old square-headlight buckets with an angle grinder. Various guides on here noted they can be bashed back / bent, but cutting them gave nice, ample clearance for the new buckets (note: no turning back now!). Despite the need for the front badge (about to be chromed), the KE is starting to look the part. I had a love/hate relationship with the square lights and 80's-to-the-max honeycomb grille, but the rev.1 KE30 front end suits the rest of the body shape down to a tee. Cosmetically, this is all I have planned for the car, save for some fender mirrors which still need to be installed, and the front quarter panel which still sits in primer from the previous owner! Exams are done now, so modifying will be paramount whenver I get the time / parts. Some lowered front springs are on the way, as is a 32/26 Weber carby. I have however picked up another toy - a Huffy Slider! A lucky find, considering these things have been discontinued and haven't been stocked in KMart since 2010. Stay tuned.
  4. Haha, man the EL dials were in my SW20 GT, that had a 200kw 3s-gte. Maybe you never saw my first car the AW11? Not sure if you knew but I sold MISTA2 (my SW20) and it was written off by its new owner. Saw its reincarnation last week - someone put all the running gear from the wreck into a new shell, and bought the plates off me. Looks mad, but I'm getting messages now like "man, you resprayed your MR2 blue, wtf?" Selling some 14" Spitfire MK1 Jellybeans in Hobart, with tyres, $260. Will take $200 and swap for some stockies too. http://hobart.gumtree.com.au/c-Cars-Vehicles-Motorbikes-Parts-parts-accessories-wheels-tyres-rims-Spitfire-Jellybean-mags-14-4x114-3-Drift-JDM-KE70-Corolla-W0QQAdIdZ289609320
  5. Quick update: Today I decided to fix up the Rev 1. KE30 grille from under the house, and treated it to copious amounts of fibreglass, silicone, and sanding, then after a decent amount of wax and grease remover, it was coated liberally with 3 coats of Gunmetal Metallic Flake enamel. To finish off, I sprayed on a few coats of high gloss clearcoat. The results speak for themselves - it looks pretty pimp. To finish off I also gave the original headlight buckets some TLC by sanding them out, getting rid of the surface rust, and giving them a few coats of the same paint. All that will be visible from the exterior is a tiny bit of metal behind the chrome trims, but I figured I had to kill the rust anyway, and they came up very nicely. I have located some original chrome headlight rings which are in dire need of a good polish, and the original "C" badge is begging to be rechromed. After this, it is a bolt-in affair for the conversion. To top it off, brand new sealed beams will be used. Will have another poll running on the blog soon re. the style of exhaust to go for. Cheers. I am a shit planker...
  6. Mate this is porn, and manual, mmmmmmm. Selling my JZZ30 right now - will be a massive regret no doubt. Just got my hands some some '95 tails too, which I've opened up and 'cleared' of diffuser lenses. Looks overrated. Mine's a GT-TL too with TEMS, scroll dash, etc, but no sunroof like this one :glare: Love it, make sure she looks after it
  7. I only really know of performance workshops around Hobart (Pro Automotive, Shaw Performance, GT Garage, Eurotech), all who will charge an arm and a leg indefinitely for a simple job such as this, as they'd rather spend their time working on JZ's and RB26's... I have been told for a run of the mill job, stay away from Co-op. Whilst they use all genuine parts and perform quality jobs, they ain't cheap. I have dealt with Cooper Automotive before, and they changed the pads / belts on my girlfriends Swift for a pittance, were fast, and were friendly to deal with. This was the Lindisfarne workshop, and Mark (owner) is usually around there. On the other hand, if you have a torque wrench, a service manual, a few hours on your hands, and some gasket dissolver/scraper, it really is a simple job. Just take the head to be machined and you're good to go. I know that doesn't answer your question, but if you're willing to learn, the most rewarding way is self-taught. In saying that, I helped a mate change the head gasket on his 1JZ-GTE, so next to that, the 4K was a walk in the park  Good luck man
  8. Still have this? I have a mate seeking a '55 I will let him know about this thread
  9. So it looks like the car will be dumped over the next 2 weeks. My blog poll results also clearly reflect the need to do this  Thought I'd do it 'the right way' (as opposed to choppie chops), and bought a set of Pedders lowered springs off a forum member, thanks Matt :y: These will be fitted with 3" blocks in the rear, so I'll have to have the springs in the front recompressed at a suspension shop. From my enquiries, this will not be a problem  Looking forward to riding low and slow. The blog poll also reflected an interest in a bosozoku style exhaust, so the next poll will be re. what style of pipe to fabricate

  12. Nichy didnt I take you for a burn in my AW11 MR2 when you lived in Hobart. That was the 4AGE in its purest form  Every day I wish I didnt sell that car.
  13. Hahaha, man you're nuts, and I love it. Keen to see this baby evolve. I'm stressing about the potential of defect running my 13x7s, but it's a daily driven car I rely on to get me to and from Uni/Work. I actually think if I lower it, it'll attract less attention (massive guard clearance right now) - go figure. What setup do you plan to use for the front suspension?
  14. You're using direct swap components by the same manufacturer from the same era. That in itself is not prima facie 'illegal' - just 'defectable' depending on the cop. I've had issues with both my 'rolla and my Soarer. The way I have gotten around any trouble is I have stated the parts utilised are from the same floorpan of vehicle (i.e. my JZZ30 Soarer is essentially half JZA80 Supra now - same chassis, different body :laff: ) Cops here, in my experience, are largely misinformed, and arrogant - a combination I don't have any tolerance for, and thus when modifying my 'rolla I have used direct swap bits. A cop asked at a breatho station if my suspension components were stock. I said it was, and pointed to the "Toyota" labelling / embossing on the components - then he was none the wiser (AE86 struts). If you just don't do stupid shit like, as you said, chopping the coils, you shouldnt have too much trouble. Tassie is not like Sydney or Melbourne where cops hand out defect notices like condoms at family planning centres.
  15. Hmm, to get ready for my Evidence Law exam, or go and slam the '55 a couple of inches? What I should be doing vs. what I want to be doing...

  16. Can't say I've actually been in it to be sure. That being said, it does look very very cool with all the other mods he's done to it. I don't think performance is a key factor in bosozoku styling, but I'm happy with the outcome of my wheel and tyre choice - even so that I am unsure whether I want to whitewall them still. Yeah I would have preferred to have bought the tyres themselves and fit them, then have them balanced, but I don't have the time at the moment. At the end of the day it worked out well, and I ended up getting a cheaper deal due to the time they took changing around all the sets :lolcry:
  17. Lol, I originally had 165/70s put on there by a bloke at the tyre shop. The owner came out and went nuts when he saw that they were going on 13x7's. Insisted he put 175s on there and refused to fit them to the car, grizzling about liability etc. I have a mate with the same rims running 145/60s, hahaha  Clutch cable issue only ended up being a dodgy hose clamp the previous owner had utilised. I was soon to find out I have minimal meat left on the plate, but until it slips I'm not worried yet.
  18. In addition to exams, the project is on hold for another reason as of today... Driving along, something went bang, and My clutch is 98% useless. Clutch only engages when I have the pedal slammed to the floor, and even then I need to rev its tits off (as you would double clutching but even higher) to be able to shift. Here's hoping it's only a minor setback such as clutch cable or spigot bearing. I babied it home today, and it'll probably be sitting idle for a few weeks until I get the time to sort it out. Back to using the Soarer as a daily now - $$$
  19. Laws? What Laws? :fuzz: The cops down here are fairly lenient - as long as you don't have stupid mods like u-bolts scraping on the ground, or springs hacked so much that you're riding on bump stops. That being said I've got some 3" blocks to go in the rear, and a mate of mine has a guard roller. I shouldn't have to pump the guards out too much if I lower it just to the tip of the guard. Now its time to find suitable springs... I could always chop, but I've seen too much dodgy shit to consider that now  Next mod: TULS sticker from Uni (Tasmanian University Law Society) to stick directly above my exhaust tip, just in case the :fuzz: think about giving me shit, hahaha  Now I want camber (funny how modifying these things is more addictive than heroin) - does anybody know the deal with Sigma control arms and '55s? I know the KSev boys have probably snapped them all up but...
  20. Okay so I may have taken a litle study break today... Bought a set of Kuhmo 175/70R13 rubber and stretched them to buggery to fit over the 13x7 dishies  Looks the ducks guts. Had them fitted and balanced on the spot, and later took another 'study break' to fit them. Got dish? Also received this in the mail - thought it was pretty cool, utilising the old school Toyota emblem against a rising sun background. JDM yo! The rims look great, and sit out from the guards nicely. Being 13's, I now have guard clearance you can fit your foot between, so lowering a good few inches is on the cards in the near future... But that is for another day (most likely in 2 weeks after exams! )
  21. After chrome headlight rings, to suit ke30 grille.
  22. Hahaha yeah that was me. It has come a long way since then. Headed out there to get some 3" blocks for a heavily discounted price  I have a heap of video footage of the build (Mighty Car Mods Style!) and I plan to put together a bit of a YouTube clip of the build process. All done in dodgy DIY / budget build fashion
  23. Man those rims are going to be PH-at as! Love it. I just bought some 13x7 mk2 spitfires for my '55 and they sit out from the stock guards, but yours stick out from flaries, I love it! :y: Can't wait to see this little beast on the road
  24. I wanna go low, but not that much - this car is still planned to be a daily (for the moment at least). 3" blocks in the rear will give me more than enough drop  As for the second clip - he would pay more for tyres than he would in fuel - looks porn though! Test fitted the mk2 spitfires last night after work. Sit out from the guards about an inch in the rear and over an inch in the front - perfect  Also met up with a nice bloke from the forums this morning who sold me a rev.1 KE30 front grille, and some new sealed beams + brackets. I prefer the early model front end to the KE55 revision. I think it will compliment the overall look I'm going for. Plus a couple of oil cooler lines poking out of the early grille will look tough  Grille is in fair condition, with a few cracked fins and overspray on the top of the grille. The plan is to give it some TLC with some fibreglass, spray the entire thing with plastic primer, then a few coats of metallic gunmetal / silver flake Tamiya Polycarbonate model paint (amazing stuff, I've used it on my R/C drifter parts). The corolla badge is a bit rough so I'll probably give it the chrome treatment too with some chrome plastic model paint. Brackets are used, but in good nick, and the sealed beams are brand new. Got the lot for $40, so very happy with this find. Cheers to Billy for this lot, and good luck with your KSev mate :y: Build will be put on hold for a while, as I have exams in 2 weeks time (Evidence law - blurgh). Rest assured, the build will push on over my holiday post-exam period, which is a decent month - enough time to get some tyres on the mk2s, whitewall them, paint both front guards and finish off the bulk of the rest of the bodywork, and lower the beast. Watch this space fellas, and cheers for the support
  25. Thanks Crowie, The plan is to remove both the front guards (need to do this to install my new fender mirrors anyway), and give them the once over - fill badge holes, give them a good sanding, some primer and paint. Might even shave my indicators and replace them with something smaller, but I want to stay true to the heritage of the car. The car could really benefit from a full respray, but as a low budget project, I can't really justify the cost. A good cut, buff and wax, and spot spray and blend of the rear guards, centre garnish area below the bootlid, and ex-rust spots on the doors should do the trick for the moment. If I spend any decent money on the car in the future, I'll be looking at a 4AGE conversion anyway so then I'd want to strip the entire car back to a bare shell. Got my hands on some white rubber dye (synthetic) from the states - planning to whitewall the tyres on the new rims for that old school look. Done properly, wide whitewalls on KE's can look pimp. Plus my mate has the same rims, so I have to do something different so I'm not completely cramping his style
