  1. Ode to the Traffic Jamb the great equaliser of motor vehicles. I was headed home south from Brisbane one arvo last week in my lolux ute and a wanker in a F40 Ferrari was beside me for 10 kms of stop start traffic now that was a loud pointless tin can. He was going nowhere fast and losing his shit and I was cruisin to my tunes.

  2. I have a 3RZ in my 2 wheel drive Hilux ute and I can attest they are a mighty engine. I roll with about 500 kg of tools and materials in the back and it pulls hard all the way through the rev range from go to whoa. I get about 10 litres per 100 Ks but it is mostly highway driving.

  3. So now you know the issue was your carby get yourself a carby kit and rebuild it then you will have the original on and that should make all your idle adjustments easier to perform. A kit costs about $80. You need a clean workspace and a couple of hours and it will be done. I rebuilt the carby on my daughters 4k with zero experience I learned as I went along. It was very satisfying when i reinstalled it on the engine and it fired up first go and idled perfectly. Its been going ever since.

    It would be handy to know if the new LED headlight lamps draw more current than the old ones. I was thinking of going the same path for my hilux and the Princess' rolla when it comes out of moth balls. It will be interesting to see how long the lamps last. I have read plenty of reviews with people complaining that they fail in a short time some a matter of months. Keep us updated.

  5. Thanks for your words of wisdom guys. Sooo many things to consider. I want it to be a one time thing so I will do my research and in the mean time try and talk the Princess into getting her manual license it will give me more options for sure.

  6. So the time has come... the Princess wants to pull her KE55 hardtop out of mothballs and start working on it to get it back on the road. No specific time line but soonish.  She wants to improve performance so she can be faster than her brothers 4AGE powered KE70 wagon. So that is down to me to decide what goes into it engine wise. I like the idea of period correct so I am thinking 2TG but with a turbo or ultimately a supercharger (lurve that whine). There is a limiting factor in as much as she wants to keep it auto....I know.... but its her ride. I have researched and been unable to find anything other than the 3 speed celica box to go behind it (not the best for highway rollin). Then there is the 4AGE option supercharged  out of the box easy install from what I have read. A modern 4 speed auto is a possibility. In the end it needs to be reliable as once it is done I don't want my head under the bonnet every 5 minutes or answering those midnight roadside calls. The swap will be with a minimum of alterations to the vehicle and all the old parts will be retained in case totally original car values go through the roof in the future. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Old V New what do you reckon

    Has anyone successfully put a modern auto behind a T series engine. I am considering a K to T series engine swap in the Princess' KE55 Hardtop but she flatly refuses to go manual. So I am looking for options that are better than the old 3 speed typically behind the T engine.

  8. I have my daughters KE55 hardtop with Shannons and when I said 10k for the policy they didnt even miss a beat and said no worries. She gets the wreck if it is written off and its $35 a month. I don't know of anyone making a claim which is where you really test them as an insurer. Yours would easily be worth 15k in the current market.

  9. Could it be the dizzy. The original has been replaced for an electronic version. You often hear that they are not graphed properly to suite the 3 and 4k engines but more for the 5 and 7k engines. It might explain why there is plenty low down but not much up the top. Just an idea

  10. It is very easy to remove the starter motor. I removed the one in my sons KE70 recently for a gearbox swap. It took about 10 minutes. Remember to disconnect the battery first so you don't accidentally short anythng out. There are only 2 bolts holding it in position access 1 from under the car and the other from above in the engine bay. You will need a socket and ring spanner and a bit of elbow grease as they are usually very tight.

    Give it a crack.

    I lost my one and only key to my work ute when I was doing night shift a few months ago. I back tracked for an hour to try and find it. No Luck. I was just about to start calling for a tilt tray as I was parked in a public space with 10 k worth of tools and materials easily accessible so I wasnt leaving her alone. Luckily security found my key and I dodged a bullet. My key is a genuine Toyota one but really worn and I can't see the number on it so I was going to the wreckers to get a new ignition barrel and matching door locks so I could have more   than one key. I havent made it there yet. But I might pull my ignition barrel on the weekend to see if it is numbered and make a trip to your locksmith and and get some keys cut. Whereabouts is he located?

  12. An article came up on my news feed the other night saying that Gazoo Racing were considering rebirthing the Celica to join their ranks. This theory was supported by the fact that Toyota have reregistered the Celica name in North America. There were artists renderings of a tough modernised TA22 body shell. Fingers crossed people.

  13. Pay the mechanic to do it. He will be responsible parts and warranty associated with it. It will be drive in drive out. Well worth the hundred you might save IF everything goes to plan. Or buy the parts and have a crack at it yourself. Plenty of how to"s online. Check them out before to see if you feel you are capable.
