I do love watching this build... I hope they don't crash it first time out!

Just caught up on this thread... loving how little rally car building there is
Don't ever change!

Yes, I did hear the car I mentioned went to Perth. Apparently as a first car for the guy's daughter? Strange choice for a first car in this day and age, I would have thought.
Do you know anything further regarding the US story? There was another went to the UK quite a few years ago now, and I know the one I bought was close to being sold to the US also.
I know all :)
It's a friend of mine and he's moving (to California from memory) shortly, taking the car with him.
Yup, it's for his daughter's "second" car. Was an absolute steal!
I did steal some parts off the 15 but have since returned them :p
We were trying to confirm if it is 66 or 67 as 66 would be exempt from their smog laws but the only Toyota s/n register we could find (yes that same one that was floating around RC years ago) was very specific on all the other models but not the KE15. It just listed the VIN bracket as 66/67... no help at all.I will make sure I stay in touch and keep track of the car :)

A few years ago now, but a good friend of mine listed a overrated all original KE15 on Shannon's which is the Australian auction house for interesting cars.
It sold for something like $AUD1250. And doubtless virtually everyone in the room sniffed and looked the other way and had a bit of a manly giggle. They were there for big Healey's, Cooper S mini's, Falcon's, Mustangs, Toranas and Monaro's. And investment number plates.....
I believe this made it's way over to Perth and is now about to make it's way over to America...

I couldn't help myself, I had to open the box just once... When I put the lid back on I some how snapped one mirror. It's still attached but dangling :(
-
Completely agree. Well put.
-
Thanks guys :D
Chobis... I already broke one of the wing mirrors :(

... I hadn't logged in for about a year. The RC Facebook page is constantly active, just much easier to use.
Sadly the forum is now more of a tech data archive for me. -
So... I haven't been keeping this updated, apologies.
Just looking at where I left off and so many things have happened.
She now has a fully functioning 67 column switch and steering wheel (all in perfect stock condition).
About 6 months ago I took her back off the road with engine problems. It turns out she had done the rings on one cylinder.
I picked up a cheap 4k and proceeded to spend $1k getting it in and "running"... only to find out it was a dud.
Note to self, always start with a compression test!I then decided to bite the bullet and send the 5k off for a full rebuild, not a cheap process.
While she was getting rebuilt I had everything painted back to stock 67 colours (block, sump and fittings).
We ended up fitting the engine the day before the Mighty Car Mods Perth meet... and she made it to the meet!
She's now getting me to work and back every day. Not without issues (lumpy cam and Toyoglide... fun times) but she's going ok.
I took her out to Toyota WA's show and shine on the weekend... and managed to take best in show!!
It's not a journey that ever ends but it's getting there :)

Fantastic!!
I'm now using 67Rolla as my daily. It's a great feeling to finally get some use out of her!
The stone chips bugged me at first but I've accepted they will happen... badge of honor for being driven!

So happy! 😀

Fantastic! I wondered if this thing was still being driven. So good to see it on the road!
-
Well done Tommy! Sorry for the late response, I haven't been checking RC that often lately.
-
Fantastic! :D
-
Needs moar low! :lolcry:
-
Thanks. That's the one I'm going to try and track down... I have a spare diff already, I'll start by checking that one :P
-
Could also be because my trans cooler lines are too large and she's constantly leaking.
I top her up every month or so... stop judging me, replacing the hoses is on the to do list!
I do have a spare Toyoglide in the shed just in case I break her!
-
Nice. Do you know what diff ratio it had? Mine has the 4.3 not great for top end.

Reviving an old thread here..
I've been running my 5k, 2 speed toyoglide KE10 without the kickdown cable.
It works fine but it won't let me take of fast. If I forget and press the gas too hard it takes of, seems goes out of gear and revs, then eases in to second.
If I stay gentle until about 25mph (still taking off about the same as your normal traffic but not as fast as I normally do) it'll change into second then I can mash it.
I'm not sure what I did with my kickdown rod... I didn't put it in because it didn't fit straight up to the twin carbies I fitted. I will be fixing all this soon!

To be fair, this car is just the anniversary edition. It's not a tribute or remake so I don't think it should be compared to the original.
If the car had been abandoned for years and was made again for the anniversary I would agree with your comments but that's not the case.
-
Why can't we have both!
-
But the badge embossed on the seat! :lolcry:
-
I would love one as a reliable daily for the missus and bub.
As I said on FB, this should only be available to people who've restored a KE10! :D

All sorted!
So, this was the first time I'd tried to use the column switch since the car was put back together. The horn contact was touching and stuck on.
The first thing I thought when I popped the hood was horn, but the sound was so bad that I decided it must be something worse. Turns out horns that are touching the body of the car sound terrible!
I also had a short in the wiring for the front lights. All sorted now so I can finally drive her with lights and indicators... sort of.
One more problem, she's a 67 so has a short steering shaft. I now have the 67 steering wheel and column switch. But I still can't get the wheel on properly!
Is there some adjustment on the inner shaft, has it possibly slipped down (or the outer shaft slipped up)?
I'm going to pull the whole assembly out and try and figure out what's going on when I get a chance!
just curious

So update on this KE15. It was not possible to import the car into California so it has changed hands. It's now back on the road and being well looked after by Matt Jordan who is part of the TECCWA club.
