  1. Nice car, I had the chance to drive one like this (not as good looking as this) for a week - it was great fun. That engine looks like a 4E!
  2. Hey Gareth, You're in unique position if you still have the 3ETE, as you can play around the E series toyota engines and basically make a 1.5ltr DOHC version of the 4EFTE - I don't know the exact details on how to do it, but I know you use the top end from a 4EFTE and leave the bottom end 3ETE. Anyhow, it all depends on the size of your wallet! (and the time the car can be off the road). As Andrew stated the 4EFTE is a straight forward swap - strong engine, a lot of options regarding parts. 4AG route - just look at Andrew's beast - maybe the fastest GP in Aust? As far as I know, no one has done the 3E/4E swap using the 3E block - most use the paseo 1.5ltr and fight over the 3ETE fly wheel. all the 5efte's are pretty crazy. Or keep it stock, restore the car and keep it as a collectable. The choice is yours! P.S: It's great to see another GP owner on the board. Also, if you decide to go down the route of swapping engines - try and keep the 3ETE, their pretty rare to find - I regret selling mine.
  3. WOW! that must of been a Monday or Friday made car! I think mine was atleast a Wednesday made car ;) Touch wood. Nothing compares to the reliability of a Corolla.... now I just have to save up and fix mine lol
  4. Yeh my little Holden TS Astra - Z18XE 245000 k's on it Blown gasket between cylinders 1 & 2 - water is seeping in between cylinders one and two, this was confirmed with a compression test. Engine is pinging due to low compression in the cylinders, the ECU is sending excess fuel into the chambers causing miss-firing. I have changed the following since purchasing the car in 2005 - ECU Coil-pack Water pump x 3 Timing belts changed every 60 000km x 3 (normal service stuff - plugs / oil etc) Coolant temp sensor with thermostat and housing How much do you reckon a head-recondition would be?
  5. Hmm maybe I should of asked for Luke, I called and spoke to older gentlemen who quoted me the most expensive engine price($1100) out of the four wreckers I called (granted it has low k's (90k) but still very expensive for what it is) and also labor wasn't to bad but still looking at 2 grand all up, which I don't have. Best price was $550 engine alone no fitting, I think I might go down this path and fit the engine myself with timing belt kit, cam seal kit, and new water pump. Also to answer my original question - yes there are wreckers who will install the engine for you. Further-more don't mention trading in your old engine as they all said it's worthless.
  6. Hey guys, Does anyone know of any wreckers in Brisbane/Ipswich areas that do a swap style deal, I blew my head gasket and I was thinking of replacing it with a wrecker engine, and I was thinking do any wreckers do they swap for you? Cheers, Tom.
  7. I thought everything would be pretty much the same, just different shape? Don't they both use 4A engines? and a lot of Toyota parts are compatible with other models? Is the suspension setup different between the two? I'm lost on this decision lol (not that's a bad thing - change is good) :)
  8. Zawsze Bialo, Wierni Czerwonym, Tylko Polska ;) I love you're car Sznaps, it must be one of best 82's out there.
  9. I had a c52 on my 3ETE, those gearboxes get around! Turn your photo's Luke! you're doing my head in.
  10. I 2nd that, seems like $151.40 that could been spent on the 82! but, happy new year and congrats on the purchase :)
  11. Thanks Luke. Thanks Mark, I'll give that a go. ______________ Back to Maxi, I have a couple of intercooler piping leaks to get around, the tubing is made from that sh*tty light alloy material which is pretty soft, and when the clamps are tightened they seem to warp out of shape. I also need that non-aircon power-steering belt.and I'm nearly there.
  12. Sweet ill give it a go, Thanks Trev! I just got home been out all day! I have a little rolla to use (for a week) whilst the Astra is off the road. I love Rolla's so reliable and fun to drive.
  13. Thanks Ken & Trev - I was told to get some of kind liquid seal called cargo-... something.. I saw one today at the shops but looked like a cheapie Will putting this liquid in make more issues when it comes to fix it?
  14. How's this for luck, just before Christmas, our one and only daily car - Astra, just blew the head gasket, car is getting coolant in two cylinders and pinging bad. I'm officially up the you-know-what creek without a paddle.
  15. Thanks Andrew, Merry xmas and all the best for a happy new year!
  16. I 2nd that! Awesome! I can't wait to see your beast on the road!
  17. WTF! how did I miss this thread lol ..... Your GP looks superclean, nice interior! The partscar is gone :( (Trev's dad picked it up, so I have no idea where it's at now - maybe a tooster or a kettle by now) I had to get rid of it due selling my house - apparently it wasn't a selling feature? :(( If theres anything I can help you with, just PM me
  18. I love this car! it's beautiful - not smothered in shit, not a wanna be drifter, not a pretender - pure class
  19. Hey guys I thought i'll give you a quick update, nothing much happening at the moment due to our little baby which is on her way / also trying sell our house / family dramas and all good and bad stuff associated with it... had to drop out of uni even.. Car is still on the stands waiting on new brake lines, and aircon removal... Sorry i havnt been on more! If everything works out the way its planned i might finally be able to do a fairly decent update.
  20. Wow congrats on the troophy! Its very deserving considering how much work you guys put into the car!!
  21. ** edit** this post is in reference to photo of new lamps installed......6 pages ago ....damn phone! (ps: car looks fantastic!) I saw a rally car the other day with all his lamps mounted on a single roof rack, not sure how it was connected to the loom but seemed like a great idea as putting them on and off would be relatively fast. What do you think? When the lights are installed on the front do they cut airflow to the radiator?
  22. Car is gone, I saw a number for free car body removal once when i was driving in my area ages ago, i actually found it again via google street view. Thanks all, proves going local beats white/yellow pages any day.
  23. Hey Trev, I didn't have your dad's number, I just called some business from yellowpages that said they serviced the Ipswich area. Bellbird Park :) PM sent!
  24. Hey guys I have Rolla ii / Corsa body to give away (i need it gone yesterday). So i call up some free car body removals ask them to take it away but they don't want it!!! Aparently it doesnt weigh enough as it doesnt have an engine. Not sure what my options are??? I'm trying to sell my house and a car body isnt the most attractive feature.
