  1. Ok so I am currently running a 20v blacktop in my GT-S. I bought the coolant conversion kit from SQ and a tweaked performance wiring harness. Everything was smooth sailing until I realized that the block off plate on the back of the motor only houses the ecu temp sensor and the coolant temp switch (white). I was told that the switch isnt needed..makes sense why there isn't a harness side connector for it...but it fits perfectly in the block off plate. On the other hand, the coolant temp gauge (gray) I was informed that I needed...but have no place to put it....but has a harness side connector. Main question is where do you guys have this sensor mounted, it looks to just be a signal wire going to it...just need more info on how this guy works and if I can stick it in the upper radiator hose or not. Thanks!
  2. Hi all, Just wondering if the Ebay Alloy radiators are worth it as I'm going 4AG-TE in my AE71. I currently have the original 4ac and it was fitted with a thermo fan, http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/FULL-aluminum-alloy-radiator-toyota-Corolla-AE71-AE72-/261213476702?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item3cd189575e&_uhb=1 With the increase in power I am assuming I will need a better radiator. If there is anything good/bad to know about them it would be nice to know!
  3. I recently was sent a 20V Blacktop (Noir Crowning) head...... so once unwrapped and set up on the bench.... inspection begins.... Over all the casting quality has gotten much better. Although there still is port-bowl-seat shift, the shift amount - at least in this head, is minimal. There is one REALLY, and I mean REALLY odd ball bit........ the 3 intake valve seats have NO semblance of an even 3 angle... Looking into the Blacktop service manual the 3 angles are suppose to be 30, 45, 60. Well the throat cut - 60 degree cut, in essence is the bowl angle and so the back of the port (highest pressure area) has no effective throat cut, while if you look carefully, the throat cut at the short radius is so small, it also becomes more or less insufficient... and the the throat cut between the two... is nothing short of an extreme change - from a width @ the back of the port of almost 5mm, to the width at the short radius of the port of less than 1mm. One thing is certain - the factory put a lot more effort in to making the bowls and seats as smooth a transition as the factory could do... the bowl machining marks you see are not by me... those are all factory machining Adding some more info.... The heads thickness measure..... My dial caliper is likely off by .001" and getting a chamber volume and it is very close to SamQ's 37.8cc measurement.... I'm closer to 38cc Further inspection...... shows a few issues on the exhaust side... look @ those casting marks.... as they travel from the bowl to the port. Also the small "step" in the machining/casting hurts flow, especially at lower lifts. More to come........ :D
  4. Hey guys hows it going . So I’ve had my 20 for a while now with a cammed 5k and its been a winner. But ive always wanted to do the 4age turbo build and after researching for like a good year I’m finally taking a dig at it. I am going to try and do as much work as I can myself on the car. I'm a qualified engine builder/machinist by trade so the motor itself won’t be an issue. Wiring the car shall be a task for me. But I’m happy to get in and give it ago :) Like I said before ive done a fair amount of research but there is a lot I don't no so any info or suggestions is much appreciated. Okay so this is the plan!!!! 4age with forged internals h beam rods and stainless steal vavles (with undecided turbo yet) T50 box I know there not the strongest but doesn’t require tunnel mods like the w boxes Using mounts from Jordan off here I have a T series diff sitting here I’m going to use I brought a ke70 wagon with coil overs up front so will use those struts and upgrade to better brakes (any suggestions guys??) I would like to get my fuel tank modified if possible I really don’t want to run a surge tank I just personally think they are ugly Plan for paint is gun metal grey That’s basically where I’m at, at the moment ill try to make weekly updates to let you guys know how everything is coming along I am a pretty busy guy but want to make this happen this is my first every big build so we shall see how it all goes J
  5. I have owned this car twice, this is the second time I have attempted to build it for a 4age.. First owned the car somewhere around 10 years ago.. Paid $700 for what was a decent car, as time went on I purchased an import corona turbo and got sick of the corolla. After sitting in the weather for a few years I decided to fit a 4age in it... After fitting the motor, getting extractors and a bunch of work done I got desperate and needed a wagon.. So I sold it for $1000 with brand new custom 4age extractors, modified radiator, recond (unused head), recond twin solex and a brand new redline manifold and a t50.. Sadly I lost an ASS load of cash car was stripped for the driveline and sold on.., many years passed and I somehow ended up with it again.. Looking very sad, every part that could be taken off has been apart from the doors. I got the car back as a shell with box's of parts. funny how life works, it is even still under my name I'm in no hurry to build the car, I have changed my mind a heap of times with what I want to do with it. But now I have decided again to go 4AGE, seeing I have a crappy ke10 with a running 4age.. so it will just be a bit of a swap and tidy up. picture from back in the day... green when I purchased it... Matte black when I got bored on the weekend :) how I got her back. Now new motor/shell it come from eventually when I do some more work i will update this, but I'm not aiming on it being perfect.. or a show car.. Just a neat/fun car... no need to be the fastest on the street.. if i can get around 100hp reliable i will be happy..
  6. I was curious and internet research could only take me so far. What is the best engine I can get for my AE70 that bolts up to my T50 transmission? I like fuel economy bit I love power more. I was looking at the 4age but I am not sure if that's the best choice. I am also open to turbo kits if they are common on the engine. Also I am currently running a 3tc with 230xxx miles on it. Appears to run well, but for how long?
  7. Hey guys I was wanting to know how I go about connecting my ke70 throttle cable to the 20v throttle bodies I have on my 16v 4age. I tried to find info on this but could not find much, I know the ke70 cable is long enough to reach unlike ae71 but just wondering how to do it properly. Any help would be much appreciated.
  8. Hey guys, Just wanting to get some advice regarding using velocity stacks on a 4age, whether or not this is legal/engineerable? (just running the stacks, not inside plenum) on an 4age 20v blacktop going in a ke55. (located vic) Just trying to do all my research before buying parts and before talking to an engineer. i know you have to keep all emissions gear with the engine conversion and i know i read somewhere you can have pod filter or cai but not both. Just trying to figure out what area velocity stacks fall into? Cheers
  9. Hello! Just yesterday I had to pull off a 21 year old power steering pump that just died in my ’92 AE-92R Corolla Seca SX, 4A-GE, and to do so I had to take off the radiator, battery, air conditioning compressor, and dizzy.. we couldn’t jack up the whole motor which would’ve made the process easier so I had to do it the hard way unfortunately, so my question is how do I put the whole distributor back in, in the right place and get it all running normally? I hear it’s quite a job... I was told it’d be $700 to get the pump replaced by a mechanic because it’s such a big job, so with some help I did it myself. Anyone have some experience with this? Thanks very much!
  10. Here is the new and improved ke30. In malaysia so getting others to work on it is cheap! Don't hate me..... It already had a 4age in with all the running gear from an AE86 ('89). Bargain it was! Now all i need is to sort the idle hunting and find the nearest track.. Ready to start: Tinkering and engine issues more rust Spray prep Sprayed! Lovin' the badge Mirrors on... Any comments greatly recieved. thanks Rolla club. Anyone got a glovebox mechanism?
  11. Hi guys I'm looking to get some clear/altezza tail lights for my 92 gti ae93. I've seen pictures of other cars with them but can't find them anywhere for sale. Is there another model that would fit perhaps?? Thank you...
  12. I've recently bought a '92 gti as a project car. What is everyone's opinion on whether to turbo or supercharge? Fixing up the body first... engine last :-) Pros and cons of both please
  13. I'm looking to get a set of secondhand rims and tyres. Does anyone know if the stud patter is the same for all corollas? Mine is a 1992 and the rims I want to buy are off a 2005..
  14. I have a smallport 4age and I am in the process of fitting it with twin 45 carbs and putting it in my ke70. I've read up a fair bit about the ignition setup but havent found any info about why I can't use my stock smallport dizzy with an msd setup, why can you only use a bluetop or a modified 4k dizzy? I have a smallport dizzy but haven't been able to find any bluetop dizzies anywhere. Any aftermarket ones around? Any help is greatly appreciated. Cheers.
  15. I am currently undergoing a 4age conversion into a ke30. Today I picked up a T50 gearbox to go with a (I believe it’s a blue top) bigport RWD 4AGE. I need some advice on oil lines and vacuum lines, etc. The engine mounts arrived the other day but they are obstructed by the oil line in the picture. Has anyone else had this problem? The engine mounts were made for a 4age but I guess not all 4age engines have this setup. If I can’t find a better solution I will need to take the mounts to a fabricator and get them modified. http://postimg.org/image/sqnyvj55z/ http://postimg.org/image/e7rkzknrd/ Also I’m not sure where these vacuum lines coming off the front of the tvis intake should lead to. I have a feeling I have to buy a while heap or other bits and pieces to go with it. http://postimg.org/image/c42onr0gx/ A huge thankyou in advance
  16. g'day boys. ok I've got a 4age engine with the small crank and I'm looking to replace the engine rods to handle the power I want but all the rods I find are for the large crank and I was wondering if it's possible to just get thicker bearings to fill the gap or do I have to get special made rods? I just not up to forking out $1,699 for a new crank. any information is much appreaciated.
  17. Are 4AGE flywheel bolts the same as a 3TC? I'm looking for ARP flywheel bolts for a 3TC. When I search on ebay, bolts are advertised with the part number 203-2802. When I look on the ARP website catalog the part number refers to 4AGE. http://beta.arp-bolt...p?RecordID=1138 I've compared 3k and 3T bolts. They are both M10 with the same thread. Just the 3T bolts are slightly longer (~0.7mm) and has a more beefy head on it. If 4AGE flywheel bolts could fit a K engine, then they should fit a T.
  18. G'day mate. I hope I'm doing this in the right place, I've got a 4age engine that I'm rebuilding and I've got some ARP high compression pistons that are 12:1 ratio and I'm looking at a set of quad-throttle bodies some upgraded cams and what-not and I'm just wondering if the standard ecu would be able to handle all this of if I should scrap it and upgrade? cheers.
  19. Hi all, I have been researching turbos and found a bit on the wrx sti vf34/36 turbo on http://www.hachiroku.com.au/2009/02/ae86-tuning-guide-turbo-4a-g/ and was wondering if anyone has done it or had any experience or driven a 4agte with one on it? I'm very interested as it seems to be very quick spooling as the vf36 has a titanium twin scroll exhaust wheel and shaft with ball bearing assembly. It has a ridiculous exhaust flange though... custom manifold i guess! Also had a look at the garrett gtx3076r which my mate had bought for his ET turbo Pulsar, but once researched it seems like there would be nothing until 5-6k rpm? I'm aiming for 165-210rwkw, I have a late model AE92 big port 4agze, oil squirters, crank angle censor coil packs, Jdm RWD manifold etc I'm also thinking the smaller exhaust housing on it would be better than an s15 BB turbo as they have a .80ar rear or something..? Any thoughts on this are most welcome!
  20. I'm not to sure why but I've DONE the conversion everything's into my Ae92 corolla Now the engine is cranking but from what I have noticed its getting no spark, I thought it was the crank angle sensor which is in the dizzy on the blacktop so I changed it and nothing changed, then I noticed I'm gettig constant power to my coil . When it should be pulsing when I crank my engine, WHY IS THIS HAPPEENING THIS CONSTANT POWER AND NOT PULSING POWER KEEPS MELTING MY COILS Thanks guys
  21. Hey guys, so I checked my car in (AE92 GTi) for a mech. inspection today, i've had it for about two years now, always ran a little rough, but i kept it nice and serviced well over the years. So the mechanic comes back with this; can I please get some feed back on this? whats important, my guess is the leaks, he didnt figure out why my front end knocks, its a weird thing to describe, it happens when i put down power - not necessarily flat footing - but moderate acceleration, its a very rapid knock, almost like a driveshaft knock of some sorts, its not CV's because i do the full lock turn and no ticks, so if anyone has had a similar issue it would be much appreciated! here are some pics of the report and my car :)
  22. The start of my Rolla wagon project, reliving my youth by rebuilding the first car I owned 20 years later
  23. I am deadset farken hopeless. I lasted maybe a month before I bought another car to go club racing lol.. Saw this on ebay a few months ago and was keen but the timing was poor, however its popped up again this week so I snapped it up. It does officially break the "only three toy cars" rule at home, but I think its cheapness has let me sneak it in. The basics are its a 1986? (I will have to check that) Ae82 Corolla Twin Cam hatch. Someone clearly loved it and spent a lot of money on it at some point in its life. Has 20 valve conversion, reportedly done by Toyrolla Spares. Its very neat from the brief look I have had over it. Painted Ford Blueprint blue, and its still very neat. Interior needs a good steam clean and a general tidy up, but has real carbon fibre covers put on the top of the dash and a few other bits. Odd! Because race car? Has uprated suspsension of some kind, and nolathane bushes through out. I will explore more of what it has at some point soon. I am told I am not allowed to play with it until I get the Crown sorted, so it will get parked in the corner for the moment, though I know myself well enough to know that the parts hunting game is about to commence...shhhhhh ;) First major works will be to work out why the engine sounds like a man with a hammer at certain revs. Given the dude selling it had his mechanic dodgy up one main bearing, I am tipping its another one wanting to be done. So I will probably whip the engine out for a refresh and do it properly. It will also get my seat and harness, some wheels with semi's for racing purposes, and at some point some MRP coil overs. Couple of photos from the ebay ad. I will put some better ones up when I clean it up and the weather is better. You can see in the pics the front bar is a bit wombled. I might replace that and do the headlights and taillights too, so they are as fresh as most of the rest of the car. Maybe :) Stay tuned. Oh and it needs a name.. the colour is making me think Smurf... but I am open to suggestion.
  24. Gents, I'm sure this is a story a lot of you can relate to... I was disassembling the 16v 4age I'm putting into my ke38 wagon. After taking the pistons, rods and bearings out, I put them into seperate bags and lined them up in order. Here's where it gets crazy... I was propositioned into a three way by 2 swedish ladies who came walking through the front gate. In the throws of passion, the bags containing said engine components got moved before I had a chance to mark the bags with their respective order numbers! CHAOS! Now, having finished the marathon session with my new foreign lovers, I'm back to working on the 4a. I've attached photos of the markings on the bearing end caps. As far as I can tell, three pistons are identical and one is different. Three of the pistons have a '2' on the side of the bearing end cap and a '1' on the bottom. The other one has a '1' on the side and a '3' on the bottom. Can anyone help with this conundrum?
  25. Hey Guys & Girls Just a quick question, what is the size of a stock ke30 rim? EG, 13x5 +15 and what size tyre because i am looking for a set of 15x8 - 25 offset and i am not sure if they will fit, nor what tyre i will need Please help
