So i'm very new to the car scene and thought that an old corolla is both cool and a good car to start with due to the simplistic engine, i'm learning as i go. Anyway I bought a 1976 ke30 a few weeks ago in very rough condition but it was running when i bought it however i cannot get it starting now, it will cranks but no ignition. I figured it had to do with the distributor and ended up replacing it but the engine still does not start. So following the rule of "all you need to start the engine is a spark, compression and air/fuel mixture" i think it may be something to do with the fuel side of things as when it cranks you can here the compression of the pistons (and I've already replaced the dizzy), any idea what could be wrong? It's a 3k 1.2L engine, as far as i can tell its all stock other than the dizzy and coil Thanks in advance!

Hey so the trans in my Ke30 went out and I'm having issues finding a local k series. My next thought was immediately swap from the 3KC to the 3TC and us the gearbox from that, but, due to my rural location, those are hard to come by as well. So I was thinking about putting a 22r into it and using a W series trans with it. Will it work? Will it fit? Is there an adapter kit? How much fabrication will I have to do, and if so of what? Is it easy enough to be worth it? Those are all questions that immediately ran through my head, and I was wondering if I could gather some insight from someone much wiser than I. Thanks all!

Hi, I just recently bought my first Toyota, so I am still learning about them but so far I am in love with this car. It's got a few minor dents and dings here and there and needs major interior work, but other than that it is totally rust free, engine runs like a watch (the transmission is a different story), and the body is totally straight. Tell me what you think, and any info on where to find parts ect. would be much appreciated. Thanks! Goose

I've owned my KE30 for some time now and I've noticed it burns a whole lot of oil, I've been filling it with some 10w-30 Maybe that is too thin? I'm thinking of doing a oilchange on it soon and I would like your opinion on what oil to use. Thanks :)

Welcome! You may have had a look at my other thread at http://www.rollaclub.com/board/topic/72174-best-engine-swap-for-ke30/, where I was after information on engine swaps. I will be fixing and modding my 4k. I have a forum post on mighty car mods forum which I will edit a link in tonight. Now, my plans for the Rolla are: - Fix the miss in cylinder 1 - Buy extractors and finish building the custom exhaust - Fix the boot (its not bolted on, no inserts in the boot) - New steelies and tyres - New gaskets and piston rings - Paint it (red, orange, blue or white) - Weber carburettor Things I have done since I bought it: - New tachometer - Fixed the speakers - Full service Photos will be up tonight!

Hello guys, I have bought an 1979 Corolla KE30, it's not in the best condition but I'm going to fix it. I want to buy new rims/wheels for it but I don't know what sizes that will fit without doing any modifications. Currently I know that the "Original" size are: 155/80 R13 5x13 4x114.30 ET27. This size is on the car now. Could you guys please help me out? :D

o.k. here I am, relatively new to the forum, first post. I was working for a vehicle restoration company early last year when I got offered this KE36 for sale, at the time I was 16 and although I was interested garage space at home was lacking, I joined this forumn however in the hope that one day the car would become mine and I could get some ideas, so here I am, year and a half later, about to get my p plates when I get a phone call asking me if I am still interested or she was going to the wreckers, well I couldn't let that happen could I?? $200 + $70 for a tow home and the car was in my possesion! I will try to post regularly as I move on, however garage space is tiny and I am still at school (year 12... Eeek, so time is an issue. Rear Shot? Interior, Magna/Commodore Seats? Roof Racks

Hi everyone I'm new here on rollaclub.com and wanna begin my adventure with classic Corollas. I have some project on my head that I'd like to get advise on. Basically I was wondering if KE55 Liftback and KE55 Coupe have the same bolts patterns so it's possible to swap their front ends: hood, guards, grill, headlights etc from liftback to coupe). Frogeye Coupe was avaulavble only in Japan but I'd like to make my own here in Oz. Tanks in advance for your replies! Cheers Peter

Hi All, I drive a beautiful 1975 KE30 2door, running dedicated LPG on the stock motor with a 5speed K50 transmission. Car is a dream and a keeper, bought from a rolla club member Dale AKA doityourself on rollaclub. I have been driving the rolla for a few years now with no problems, runs beautifully and usually won't give me much starting trouble even on cold winter mornings, really reliable and well taken care of car. The praise should go to Dale (doityourself) for his beautiful work on the LPG conversion, custom exhaust and a lot more tlc. After a while the little engine can be a bit tedious and sometimes you itch for a little more excitement and oomf to match the cars personality, so on that note the time has come for a new heart... or engine, whatever you want to call it. The point of this thread really is to find the perfect Engine Conversion for me and my car. I want to make something beautiful, reliable, fairly economical, powerful, but not ridiculous. For the most part I am hoping to have JapaneseMotorsport (South Australia) handle the conversion and upgrades. I do want to one day do a project car at home by myself but this car isn't that project. This rolla is and will be my one and only daily for a long long time, I can't really see myself driving anything else. I want a professional, quality conversion and I don't trust my knowledge and skills enough to dive into an engine conversion at home. Money wise, for now lets just imagine its not an issue (of course it'll be an issue) I just really want intelligent, unique ideas, don't hold back! SO I want to make a final decision as I've been racking my brain looking and thinking about all the different engine swaps that have and haven't been done on the net. I want the overall best engine conversion for my 2door KE30 Corolla bringing these factors into thought: - Daily driver - Power, but will not be racing or drifting, just a little oomf and grunt - Sound and Looks - A big one, I DEFINITELY want to keep running dedicated LPG on the new engine I put in my rolla (don't have much info on how difficult that will be but any info would be appreciated!) - Decent-ish fuel economy - Preferably not turbo So thats about it, hopefully this sparks a good conversation over which is the overall BEST KE30 engine swap for a daily driver just looking for a better performance out of his favourite little car. Any unique conversions would be awesome, would love to do something that hasn't been done but not going to do something just because its different if its not the best choice overall. After all the reading I've done my mind at the moment sways towards a well built 20v 4age running LPG. Sorry for the long read and any dumb questions. Cheers! Joel

Hi all, today i noticed something odd. my right indicator light would half light up when i braked and that with the headlights on sometimes the indicator would stick or be unresponsive. I have so far figured it has to do with my steering column. it was also messing with the right hand brake light. Has anyone had this happen before? Does anyone know what it might be? How can I fix it? Conah.

Hi there, What are the options that we have to upgrade a KE20/25 front suspension. 1. Which crossmembers can we use, KE30 or KE70 or KP61?? 2. What are the shortest LCAs that can be used on a KE20?? Are there any shorter than KE70?? I am busy designing a rack & pinion setup for my car. I have installed a starlet rack in but as it is wider therefore bumpsteer issues Temporary fix - Drop the car as much as possible - Less movement less bumpsteer. Currently drives excellent on flat roads with small bumps. . Out of all the crossmembers I have seen, the ke30 looks the easiest swap. My current track width is R LCA + L LCA + Inter LCA distance = 320mm + 320mm + 493mm = 1133mm If I use a KE30 crossmember with KE70 LCAs 300+300+520 = 1120mm (1.3 cm Narrower) OR If I use a KE30 crossmember with KE30 LCAs 310+310+520 = 1140mm (0.7 cm wider) Would any of these be a better start in rack and pinion conversion??

Hey guys, I've just purchased a Ke30 in the original mustard. I would like to give it a respray in this colour. I'm struggling to find the paint code anywhere. If someone could provide that to me, I'd appreciate it.

I always like having a big battery in my cars. If you ever run into carby troubles you can easily flatten a small standard battery trying to start it, or if your alternator or wiring isn't fantastic then it can give you a bit of extra juice before you go flat. It's also handy for the times you build an engine and crank it without ignition to get oil through it. I measured up the battery tray and room available in my KE30, went down to Autobarn and looked at what they had on the shelf. I went from a standard MF43 battery (238Wx138Dx186H) with 360CCA to a SuperCharge MF52 (237Wx171Dx182H) with 650CCA. Fits perfectly with a new 7" battery clamp. I started a new page on the wiki for batteries: http://www.rollaclub..._Series/Battery (inb4 someone criticises me for adding 4.5kg of sprung weight to the front of my car)

Hi all Bought a Ke30 from a guy who kept the car in completely original condition, sold it to me for cheap, with the cleanest interior and the straightest body ive ever seen However, judging from the cracked head and milky oil, he probably never looked under the bonnet :bash: Ive bought a new cylinder head, gasket set and in hindsight I'm planning for a radiator recoil and new water pump because the head might of cracked due to cooling issues So a few questions first, should i buy a new radiator or get mine fixed? And I'm getting a mechanically competent friend to take a look at replacing the head, is there anything i should look out for/tips? Also, i heard from a mate that theres no point rebuilding the head if the bottom end is going to be left intact because the head will just crack again, what can i do to the bottom end that provides me with 100% certainty that the engine wont blow up again? Could i please get help? Thank you!

So as you may have guessed my KE30 is falling apart at an alarming rate and as the title suggests my indicators have packed up. no idea why. They just stopped. The switch works and sometimes it will light up for a second but overall nothing. fuses? wires? anything?

Hi, so my steering column has been loose for a while and i have decided to fix it. How do you tighten the bolt with no head? and what side (both length and diameter) is the bolt so i can find a similar one to replace it?

I have just bought a ke30 and was looking for some help with upgrading suspension, I understand there is a lot of work which goes into building up a decent car thats this old but I'm up for it and would like it to perform reasonably well. I thought I'd start by asking where to get a good suspension set up for the intention of drifting it later on and if possible what brands etc.?

Hey Guys, I currently have a 1976 Ke30 Corolla with a 4K, I'm wanting to spend a little bit of money but not too much to get some more power to it. If someone could give me an idea of a starting point as I have no idea where I should even begin that would be great. Maybe even if someone lists everything I should do that's worth it, I'd greatly appreciate it. Cheers.

Funny subject, and silly question I know, but hope someone on here has already been through this exercise. I'm sick of having to turn the whole damn mirror down, each time, to stop being blinded from behind, whilst driving at night. Now I know most late model car have rear view mirrors that adhere to the windscreen, and I could easily go and grab one of those at a wreckers. However, I would rather have one that mounted using the existing mounting point on the KE30. Has any one found or used another rear view mirror from another later model Toyota, or any other brand, for that matter, that mounts to the existing mounting point on a KE30/55 ? Cheers Banjo
