  1. Hey guys Just wondering if anyone knows where to get new Stock front shocks for a ke55 Sedan, I tried lots of shops around Sydney they all offer the Monroe-matic Plus part number 805014MM but they did not fit in the inserts unfortunately they were too long and thinner and original shocks, any help would be appreciated, the original shocks had a part number MG991 but Monroe told me they were discontinued. thank you Tony
  2. My AE71/KE70 drift build. Follow along, help me out, learn things, drift things!
  3. I decided to replace my front shockies due to a major leak which caused a failed warrant of fitness. So i ripped into bnt and ordered a full set thinking all would be all cool.... Backs went in piece of piss... But to cut a long story short the front struts were completely different to the ones that i ordered. Apparently the ones i ordered were factory Carina inserts, but they have no seat for the spring?! Surely i shouldn't have to weld one on? so I'm guessing somebody along the line has converted the fronts to ke70 struts maybe?! I'll attach the struts in comparison and the list the part numbers. Because both struts have different part # Any help on the part numbers would be ideal! Please and thank you(:
  4. Hey Fellow Racers, I recently shot a view from under my KE30 whilst at the track; I though some of the suspension nerds might find it interesting (me included!). There's so many little features in the footage that you just don't see from in-car video: watching the tyre contact patch, the amount of tyre deflection, suspension travel, body roll ect. From this I found some obvious ways I can improve the grip of the car through the corners, check it out: Circled in the picture below is where the (poor) camera was mounted. The lens on the case ended up smash haha, but that happened in the paddock and not on track.
  5. Hi I'm new to this page and am wondering if anyone can tell me if corolla and corona share the same suspension layout, wanting to put coilovers in my 86 corona WAGON but having trouble finding anything, alot of corolla suspension is available so I'm wondering if they are similar, would I need to swop control arms etc or would the coilovers bolt in to my existing hubs/control arms, or is it not possible at all. Any help/advice would be much appreciated thanks!
  6. Hey Everyone, I have been meandering through previous threads and come across a general opinion. A lot of advice on suspension setup for these KE1x is geared/directed towards "high performance". I'm wondering if there is straight swaps for the struts on the front and rear that wont lower, raise stiffen etc the ride but rather keep it as intended by Toyota. I'm in the process of lookin at struts and the only ones i seem to be able to find are Pedders. (listed below) Front Shocks 8778 Pedders Cartridge Rear Shock 8032 Pedders Shock Absorber Rear Shackle Bushes / Kits EP8118 KIT REAR SPRING REAR EYE & SHACKLE I was quoted 560 just in parts, which seems a bit excessive. does anyone know of a better alternative? Regards F1
  7. First of all I'm New to this Forum and i Like to introduce myself. I am Menki and i live in Austria, i am 25 years old and working on Cars since i was 15. Also i am a certified Welder, Former and moulder, and did a lil Bit of CNC Work with Mills and lathes. So now to My car. It is a 75 ke35 Coupe Deluxe in Rust free condition and i bought it for 250€. The previos owner tried to prepare it for a respray but messed it Up. ID Like to know where are the best places to buy parts Like spares or upgrade Aftermarket. And what are your recommended Brand or sellers. AS i live in Austria its hard to find a seller who would send me stuff over seas. Unfortunetly i have never Driven a Stock ke rolla so i can't say what ID Like to Change in Suspension or engine. My idea was to build an old shool Street Racer. Maybe someone Likes to give me His advice or Share His opinion in whats usefull or where i have to Look for parts, whats interchangeable whith other Models etc. Thanks
  8. Hi all, This is my first post and I'm kinda new around here but I thought I'd start documenting my 1981 Toyota Corolla Ke70 build and everything else that comes along with it :wasted: So i bought my little poo brown corolla about a month or two down in Gosford (I live in Sydney) with around 69XXX genuine kms on it off some dude looking like dis, high in the air, but on stock steelies: It was in pretty good condition bar a few dings, had close to no rust, deep dish steering wheel, new alloy radiator and started and ran! Had a pretty dodgy drive back home as the thing pretty much didnt have brakes  I wish I took photos of them but it was metal on metal and looked like it had been that way for a long while... Anyway got her home and did a few things like changed the sludge (oil) in the old 4K motor, did all new pads, shoes, drums etc, the rear shocks were blown so I put some cheap shit ones in to get me through, cut 2 coils out of each of the springs for dope appeal, a AJPS adjustable panhard rod and put some 13x7" shoes on her and thats how she sits up until today: Lovin the roof racks and the granny spec louvre :lovin: After installing the Ae71 Tacho Dash, I cut the dash and centre console to fit 3 52mm gauges (which I haven't gotten around to buying yet... no real point) a double din touch screen Head deck. Also installed some 4inch speakers in the front and 6x9inch speakers in the rear. Purple Haze (Y) I decided i would focus on the suspension and brake work first while i find, buy and build an engine. so i started buying and saving a fairly long list of parts so i could put everything in in one go as it is my daily driver so..... (HOPEFULLY NEXT WEEK!) Anyway, heres what I've bought suspension wise so far: Suspension Parts List Weld on Coilover Sleve Kit (AJPS I believe) Cusco Camber Tops 8kg coils Bilstien dampers Ae86 Hubs and Vented and slotted rotors JDM Ae86 Callipers rebuild with all new seals and pots Braided lines XT130 LCA rebuilt with superpro bushes and new balljoints Ae86 P/S knuckles AJPS RCA's Hardrace Castor Arms TRD Ae86 18mm Rear Swaybar SRI front Strut Brace AJPS tie rod ends, rack rends, rack boots, lock spacer Every front end Superpro bush 6kg Rear coils BC racing rear spring seats (Eventually) Bilstien dampers in the rear All this shit is waiting ready to go and i can't wait to post again with some actual build photos and progress! :rocknroll:
  9. Hey Guys, First time poster so please don't kill me. Basically today I messed up driving my KE70 in the wet. My brakes locked up so I slid and hit my front left wheel on the curb at around 25 - 30km/h. The car didn't mount the curb but it did hit it pretty hard with the wheel turned slightly to the left. Right now, my front right wheel seems to have a lot of positive camber and is constantly pulling to the right. I've pulled the wheel off to have a look at what might be bent but all appears to be fine and none of the arms seem to be bent how ever the the hub does seem to be on an angle. Also I can't freely spin the wheel when the car is jacked up like i used to. Any idea on what could possibly be wrong guys? Thanks in advance!!
  10. Hey Guys, just wondering if any of you have done any coil-over/suspension upgrades in your KE30/35's that are recommended. Also wondering what amount of work would need doing putting in AE 82/92/86/101/111 coils in a KE35 as I am interested in upgrading handling and lowering the car. Thanks All.
  11. So I have a KE70 1981 Toyota Corolla SR5 which is mainly stock. My springs are pretty soft seeing as they've been the same one for the last 34 years and 140,000 km. I was wondering if it would be a decent idea to go down to a pick and pull and just grab some decent ones off of a dead car or if I should bite the bullet and just buy coilovers. I just find that the car leans a lot to the outer on turning and would like a quick fix for that.
  12. hi guys! first time posting on the site! i need some help, i have just bought my first car, a yellow Ke55 manual and i want it to be sitting just right! i was wondering what the best set up would be for lowering it and how much it could cost me? Please help!! :)
  13. If this is not an appropriate thread - mods feel free to delete it. If it has been replicated, also feel free. Also feel free to move this, sticky it, re-use it, whatever. The more info out there the better. This is designed to be an all-in-one thread, for the noobs, with the first questions that are asked. EVERY TIME. There are not specific details (for example, 4kc engine - 1.3L) you can google that. Reining from the KE70 Facebook group, with help from a few others (Reed) here is the guide for noobs with a KE70. Let's get rolling! First - determine if you have an AE71 or a KE70. Easiest way to determine this is if you have a 4AC engine or a 4KC engine. 4AC is an AE71, 4KC is a KE70. Engine: Engine direct bolt ins for a KE70: 3kc, 4kc, 5kc, 7kc (with sump modifications) A 2T engine will also fit They came standard in south african spec corollas. For this to bolt in you will need the mounts and crossmembers from the standard T powered car which are hard to find. Also, all T powered Toyota vehicles use a steering box, not rack and pinion, so doing this conversion with the T crossmember will result in loss of rack and pinion steering. This means most people tend to use an ae71 gearbox with a T bellhousing and make their own engine mounts. This avoids other issues with tail shaft splines not being compatible from T motor T 50s to A motor T 50s. Modifying Standard Engines: Easiest way to get a bit of pep out of any of these engines is to add a carby, weber or dellorto, 5 speed gearbox and extractors. There's not much else you can do. A lot of people also put on an electronic distributor. peaople generally don't bother spending heaps of money on a 3K/4k motor or 4ac. Because by the time you do - you could've put a 4AGE, SR20 or CA18 with relative ease. See: http://www.rollaclub...a_tough_K_motor If you have an AE71, it will come standard with a 4AC engine. These use the same mounts and everything as a 4AGE. It's almost a direct bolt in. If you're going 4age path. You will need an A series T50 gearbox and gearbox mount/crossmember, an AE71 or AE86 engine crossmember, mounts, bellhousing brackets, clutch hydraulics and pedal box. Plus a few other bits. Manual Gearboxes: K50 (5 speed) and K40 (4 speed) gear boxes are paired to K engines. The one exception being the A engine - K 50 gearbox combo from an AE85 or a AE70/AE71 sprinter. These are both overseas models which are are rare in Australia but more common in NZ, SE Asia and Japan. K boxes are good for approximately 150hp and minimal torque. T50 (5 speed) or T40 (4 speed) can be mated to an A series engine (4ac, 4age etc) or a T series engine (2T, 3TC, 2TG, 3TGTE. It is good for around 200hp and minimal torque. Will break with sc and most turbo systems. T50s can also be found in Ta22 celica, T18 corolla, an many other random variations of these models. Any T50/40 from behind a T motor will not accept the same tail shaft as an A series T 50. Otherwise they are practically identical. Shock/brake/coilovers: AE86 coilovers or stuts will bolt into the standard mounts, but you need AE86 steering arms as well for them to work. XT130 Corona struts. These will give you an option to make coilovers with a sleeve kit. Also bigger brake options, etc. etc. Mitsubishi Sigma or Toyota Corona lower control arms will give you negative camber in the front. Rear suspension: VL wagon rear shock absorbers or suzuki sierra fronts will fit. VL are much easier to source, and have a large range of "sports" shocks. The suzuki ones are very, very short. You need to sitting on bump stops in order for these to be of any use. They're short stroke so keep lowered springs captive and won't bottom out. You can use cut AU falcon springs for a harder ride. If you have to ask how to cut a spring, you shouldn't be near a car. And a reputable workshop will not do it, BECAUSE IT IS ILLEGAL. Other options are King Springs, AJPS, TRD, etc. See this thread for more answers before asking: http://www.rollaclub...owering-thread/ KE70s will benefit from strut braces/sway bars etc to stiffen up the body. Stiffening the body is moreso for drift/motorkana etc. Being a 30 year old car, replacing bushes, bearings, and all those suspension components is beneficial. This will dramatically improve ride quality. DO YOUR SUSPENSION BEFORE YOUR WILD ENGINE UPGRADE. Diff options: The stock diff will probably have a whine in it. Seems to be factory, lol. "I really want to drift my new corolla with a 4kc engine in it and no suspension modifications." Weld your diff. This is also illegal. Don't be annoyed when you crash it, what did you expect? There's enough info on youtube and the internet on how to do this. So don't ask. It's very easy to do it yourself. It's horrible to drive daily in, and if you try to catch that amber turn signal at the lights too quick, you could just end up sideways. For those that are serious about diff upgrades. The standard diff doesn't have an available LSD for it. You will need to upgrade to an AE86 rear end know as an "S-series", or a T-18 rear end known as a "T-series". These both have LSD options. Hilux. Skyline, Silvia, Cressida, Corona and various other rear ends have also been fitted. I can't comment on ease or availability, but it CAN be done if you're serious about it. Visual modification: Corollas came out in two variations, pre-facelift (1979-1983) and facelift (1984). Known as flat front and slant-front respectively. There were also numerous other fronts. The rare diesel front end and DX front were also available in other countries. Quad-lights will fit a flat front with minor modification. Cutting the beaver panel just under the lights and bending the metal over. To turn a slant to a flat front you need: 2 guards, bonnet and scuttle (bit between bonnet and windscreen) and of course lights, grill, all those bits. The rad support is also different between the two models, but I think you can make it work. It's all a direct bolt on and off procedure. If you are struggling to find ke70 quad-lights, RT104 corona lights can be used. The mounts on the base will need to be cut, flipped and welded in place to suit the KE mounts. Not hard to do and will fit the KE headlight surrounds, I'm using them. Rust repairs: Expect your KE70 to have rust. In the rear wheel arches, the fuel filler, and along the bottom of the boot, just above the bumper. Other common places is in the firewall, along the edge of the boot opening and the bottoms of the doors and quater panels. Toyota put what looks like a felt strip as a sealant in some of these places. Naturally, it soaked up all the water and rusted away the shell. Generally, you will need to cut out a piece of metal, cut out the rust from the panel, weld it in, rust protect it, fiberglass it, bog it, paint it, and so on. This is a good example of a quick-fix for rust that you can do at home: www.youtube.com/watch?v=aCMeAze56AQ Where can I find parts? eBay : http://www.ebay.com....w=ke70&_sacat=0 Pick-a-part Rollaclub for sale threads. AE86 driving club threads. A hint on buying things. Research what you need first. Please don't post a topic saying "WTB. KE70 springs." then when someone offers you cut springs, you get sore about it. Be specific. "WTB: Lowered KE70 springs. After a set of king springs that will provide me with about a 50mm drop. I think the part number is: KXXX:XXXXX. Similar springs will suffice." Also, don't ask for help doing things illegally. Of course it can be done, but a lot of people will discourage you from doing it in order to save a few $$. We've all run chopped springs, and after going to coils you never look back at the pogo stick with pride. If this hasn't answered your questions, or skimmed over them. Use the search feature. Good places to look for info: http://www.rollaclub...pension-thread/ http://www.rollaclub...-tech-articles/ These are pretty much all the basic questions that newbies ask. Hope it helps :)
  14. Just wondering if anyone has or know anyone who has tried or is using theTechno Toy Tuning weld on front suspension??? Link is below https://technotoytuning.com/toyota/ke30/weld-front-coilover-kit-ke30-corolla
  15. Hello all. I have recently inherited a ke70 off my grandfather(with 66xxxkm on the clock!!!) and I am in the process of doing a couple of mods to it. I have just ordered some king springs for her and I'll be doing a carb soon. But wile under the car looking around I noticed all the rubber bushings seemed to be falling apart so I'd like to replace them while I have it up on stands. I have no idea what they're all called though, could someone point me in the direction of what I need and a store I could get them all from? Thanks!
  16. G'day guys, Wondering if the more experienced and frugal might be able to point me in the direction of some parts for the KE25. Obviously trying to do the build on a budget so every penny counts! I mainly need suspension bushes, ball joints, tie rod ends etc.. Repco are quoting ridiculous prices. $100 for a single ball joint!! Your advise would be appreciated. Cheers
  17. I have recently bought an ae101 levin coupe as you may see in my profile pic for $3000 aus with 200,000 klm :) and I was wandering what other corollas do the struts mach up with? I have got some tanabe coilovers for sale $400 aud and I want to buy fully adjustable so swap or trade can be arranged as well. Unfortunately the tanabe ones are not base height adjustable which I will require with stance style wheels later on..
  18. hey guys, ive recently aquired my dads old 69 ke10 corolla and am in the process of a building the engine, respraying etc., i'll try to get some pics up soon. i want to make up coilovers for the front and remove the leaf, can anyone recomend a beefier strut that suits the ke 10 to use ase a base for the coilover? and if it were to support bigger brakes to that wouldn't be a bad thing. thanks chris
  19. Hey guys, i want to do a coil over setup for the front of my ke35. Right now i have stock struts, brakes etc. (Haven't touched the suspension just got king springs in the front). I'm running a 7K-C with a 40mm Side-draft Weber. Nothing fast, but i feel like the suspension needs to be more stable on the turns, adjustable at times and some bigger brakes. (thinking xt130's) I'm not sure what coilovers packages fit e.g. (g4) (AJPS) etc..... I'm looking to by new struts, coilover package, recondish breaks, adjustable camber tops... What do you guys think about brans or products ????? Also whats my options for the rear ? i have stock leaf springs how do lowering blocks go with suspension performance on these cars ?
  20. Hi I thinking to make some update to my front system with better suspension , steering and general to update the front system after the new engine(4age). I search for diy coilover but i don't know what i need to buy! (from ae86 the steering knuckle is the same? ) General can i use from ae86 arms , stabilizer and strut bar?
  21. hey guys, just wonder what the best way to lower my ke55 is. Buy lowered springs and block the rear or pay for a reset on suspension. if i was blocking it would only be 2inch or so. what would the ride be like?
