  1. Hello. Once again I come to this forum to seek your wisdom! I've tried asking around but no one have any idea what the heck is going on. My car did not pass the inspections. The HC value was off the scale it read a value over 2000 when the limit is 400. As I understand HC is hydrocarbons and this means the car is running a little rich which I can already tell by the backfiring sometimes. I've taken the carburetor apart and replaced all the gaskets and given it a thorough clean. I could already feel it running better than before. I think it was leaking a little bit. I also ordered some ignition parts like: A new coil, distributor cap and rotor and new breaker points. They did not have any condensers so I have to source that elsewhere. Unluckily the distributor cap and rotor did not fit. I changed the breaker points on my corolla and set it up to the factory spec. A gap of 0.4 - 0.5 mm when it is at the top. Then I checked it with a dwell angle and got it pretty on point. I also checked the timing with a timing light. But after I changed the breaker points I noticed it was running very rough. It was coughing and spitting fuel out the exhaust. It's like the timing was way off. Then I noticed on my tacho that it was jumping all over the place. I have no idea why it does this. Is the high voltage jumping and shorting somewhere since it's always triggering the tacho? I've uploaded a video to youtube to demonstrate what happends.
  2. Hi guys, have a 1980 ke55 and I just took the motor out and replaced it with one from a ke70 while using the ke55 cam, carb, distributor, head etc. Has new coil, points, condenser, cap, rotor, leads, seals, headgasket etc. Timing set to 8degrees btdc, points set to 0.4mm, valve clearances set cold. Starts fairly easily and can rev in neutral easily like it used to but if i give the accelerator a few jabs it dies until it returns to idle, also when I take it for a test drive it doesn't want to rev easily and dies when I go over around 3000rpm. Just wondering if you guys can give me some tips or what your thoughts are on the problem and how to fix it? First time posting on here so hope this is the right section, thanks.
  3. Hello all. I have this problem with my key to my KE70, and when i turn it over to ignition position then it wont turn over, but when i take the key up/down inside the cylinder while i have it turned to iginition then it will fire. So basicly what I'm saying is that I'm going to change it out. If its not fixable(?) i don't know. I bought an aftermarket cylinder with just 3 cables to it, like this: And from my ke70 there comes 5 cables So my question is this, what cables do i need to put on the new one, and what are the other 2 calbes to. And yes i have checked the wiring diagram, but I'm asking just to be sure. Best regards, Hellkeepa
  4. I'm getting into the wiki again and it's gotten a bit messier from when it was the old FAQ. I'd like to tidy it up and take the chance to include even more knowledge while I'm at it. We currently have three pages for distributors and ignition: http://www.rollaclub.com/wiki/index.php?title=Tech:Engine/K_Series/Distributor'>http://www.rollaclub.com/wiki/index.php?title=Tech:Engine/K_Series/Distributor - this is pictures and part numbers of internal and external ignitors http://www.rollaclub.com/wiki/index.php?title=Tech:Engine/K_Series/Electronic_distributor - this one i tidied, rewrote, and added to today http://www.rollaclub.com/wiki/index.php?title=Tech:Engine/K_Series/Distrib - this one is just denso part numbers I'll combine these into one page. If anyone has anything at all they'd like to add on the topic of dizzys/ignition/coils/spark, please note it down in this thread, I'm happy to organise it all into a nice wiki article. Some things I can already think to add: Talk about Denso and Bosch points distributors, list differences (Denso adjuster screw) and cap/rotor part numbers List coil wire lengths and plug types, I have this in a picture I saved off eBay Talk about how lower resistance of plug wires is the most important factor in wires, not shielding thickness Upgrading oil-type coils, from stock to Bosch GT40 to MSD Blaster II Talk about having distributors regraphed to suit different cams, give props to PEI in Nunawading, Vic List stock spark plug numbers and gap Talk about the need to run cooler plugs in a worked K motor or your tappets heat up and unwind clack clack clack :P Things I can think I'd like others advice on: Ballast resistors, wtf they even do, how they seem to be common problems, how to diagnose a faulty one Where did the elec dizzy with external ignitor come from? Late or import KE70? 5K vans? Other? Any experience on running fancy $200 spark plugs in K motors? Worth it or waste of money? If you'd like to talk to any of these points, or corrent me, or can think of stuff I've missed please do go for it!
  5. I have a smallport 4age and I am in the process of fitting it with twin 45 carbs and putting it in my ke70. I've read up a fair bit about the ignition setup but havent found any info about why I can't use my stock smallport dizzy with an msd setup, why can you only use a bluetop or a modified 4k dizzy? I have a smallport dizzy but haven't been able to find any bluetop dizzies anywhere. Any aftermarket ones around? Any help is greatly appreciated. Cheers.
  6. Help! So I put MSD 6AL and blaster coil in the 2tc for my TE31. Car ran awesome, then no-start issues, charged batt, and new alt. even used a jump and my truck batt which has way more cranking amps. did the msd spark test, msd works fine. replaced cap, rotor, pickup coil, plugs, cleaned all ground straps and batt straps and posts, replaced starter(cause i fried the old one trying to start the dam car) after new starter, car cranked up and ran then died after 3min. the msd led light should flash each time the dizzy spins past the pickup coil. well it doesnt and no spark again, when cranking the msd doesnt blink with rotation, it did for a minute but stopped. new pickup coil reads 130 ohms which should be ok. old reads 110 Bypassed msd to old ignition module and coil. No spark still!!!! :wtf: What did I miss, something simple I'm guessing but my head hurts from trying. :bash: :hmm:  8/ :drgrim: :bright: :danger:
