  1. So long of the short, what coolant for 78 KE30? New to this, but want to try to get it right. Any help much appreciated !
  2. Got a 2 door ke30 WTB front coilovers.
  3. Hi Guys, new to this forum. Thanks for having me. I'm moving from Qld to Syd and will bring across my KE30. Currently on full Qld rego. The car is modified with a 5K motor, K50 gearbox and diff to suit. Everything else standard. It has been engineered in Qld to be registered. However, I will need to do this again in NSW. I would like to register the car under modified historic registration with the club once in NSW. Can anyone tell me what I will need to do to have the car ready for historic rego and estimate of cost involved? Thanks in advance.
  4. Hello. Once again I come to this forum to seek your wisdom! I've tried asking around but no one have any idea what the heck is going on. My car did not pass the inspections. The HC value was off the scale it read a value over 2000 when the limit is 400. As I understand HC is hydrocarbons and this means the car is running a little rich which I can already tell by the backfiring sometimes. I've taken the carburetor apart and replaced all the gaskets and given it a thorough clean. I could already feel it running better than before. I think it was leaking a little bit. I also ordered some ignition parts like: A new coil, distributor cap and rotor and new breaker points. They did not have any condensers so I have to source that elsewhere. Unluckily the distributor cap and rotor did not fit. I changed the breaker points on my corolla and set it up to the factory spec. A gap of 0.4 - 0.5 mm when it is at the top. Then I checked it with a dwell angle and got it pretty on point. I also checked the timing with a timing light. But after I changed the breaker points I noticed it was running very rough. It was coughing and spitting fuel out the exhaust. It's like the timing was way off. Then I noticed on my tacho that it was jumping all over the place. I have no idea why it does this. Is the high voltage jumping and shorting somewhere since it's always triggering the tacho? I've uploaded a video to youtube to demonstrate what happends.

  6. Hey all. Been going to Sydney motorsport park quite a bit lately as my young son loves racecars. Last few weekends there has been a bloke out there with a white ke30 fastback with a rotary in it. Last time out he was having gearbox issues however. Last weekend there was also a blue ke30 with a rotary absolultely dominating all the other cars at the track. Had NSW plates that read along the line of BRRRP or similar. Very tidy and straight car! Heres a vid I made of it if anybody wishes to have a look. Anybody else frequent eastern creek with their rolla as these are the only two I have seen out there in some time. Seems all the others are kept away in their garages never to be driven at the track. For the number of them produced and the imcreasing rarity of rx3, etc I have expected to see many more old rollas making the track rounds. But to this day nothing. There still appears to be heaps of guys on here putting alot of time and effort into engines swaps and performance builds, but they seem to end up being trailor sailors and show queens instead of track monsters :-( Hope to see more lads with flash corollas at the track soon Regards mac

  9. What are these vents worth generally? Any help appreciated :)
  10. Hey all. I need advice on what door mirrors will fit a ke30. I am chasing chrome DOOR mirrors but am having trouble finding anything that fits due to the shape of the door. I was looking for stock mirrors but cannot find a passenger side mirror for a decent price. The main problem being most "eBay" style classic mirrors have very short stalks and if fitted to the passenger side, they sit to low so the mirror can't be aeen from the drivers seat. Pics of suggestions will be helpful. Cheers folks. Macca
  11. Looking for a couple of sets of rear shackles for the rear leafs. Upgrading to nolatane bushes and need the 30 or above size shackles.
  12. Hey guys, I'm doing a rotary swap in my ke30 and I'm going to run e85, I was just wondering if I can use the standard tank in the car or if I should get a fuel cell?
  13. hey guys, just curious how much work is involved in swapping my 1981 ke55 rectangle headlights for quad headlights like in the ke70 corollas. i know i need lights brackets and the grille. but wondering if it will all fit. thanks in advance
  14. I'm removing the diff off my old rolla. Anyone have the torque specifications for the diff, driveshaft, brakes and leafsprings?
  15. So i'm very new to the car scene and thought that an old corolla is both cool and a good car to start with due to the simplistic engine, i'm learning as i go. Anyway I bought a 1976 ke30 a few weeks ago in very rough condition but it was running when i bought it however i cannot get it starting now, it will cranks but no ignition. I figured it had to do with the distributor and ended up replacing it but the engine still does not start. So following the rule of "all you need to start the engine is a spark, compression and air/fuel mixture" i think it may be something to do with the fuel side of things as when it cranks you can here the compression of the pistons (and I've already replaced the dizzy), any idea what could be wrong? It's a 3k 1.2L engine, as far as i can tell its all stock other than the dizzy and coil Thanks in advance!
  16. Hey so the trans in my Ke30 went out and I'm having issues finding a local k series. My next thought was immediately swap from the 3KC to the 3TC and us the gearbox from that, but, due to my rural location, those are hard to come by as well. So I was thinking about putting a 22r into it and using a W series trans with it. Will it work? Will it fit? Is there an adapter kit? How much fabrication will I have to do, and if so of what? Is it easy enough to be worth it? Those are all questions that immediately ran through my head, and I was wondering if I could gather some insight from someone much wiser than I. Thanks all!
  17. Hi, I just recently bought my first Toyota, so I am still learning about them but so far I am in love with this car. It's got a few minor dents and dings here and there and needs major interior work, but other than that it is totally rust free, engine runs like a watch (the transmission is a different story), and the body is totally straight. Tell me what you think, and any info on where to find parts ect. would be much appreciated. Thanks! Goose
  18. I've owned my KE30 for some time now and I've noticed it burns a whole lot of oil, I've been filling it with some 10w-30 Maybe that is too thin? I'm thinking of doing a oilchange on it soon and I would like your opinion on what oil to use. Thanks :)
  19. Welcome! You may have had a look at my other thread at http://www.rollaclub.com/board/topic/72174-best-engine-swap-for-ke30/, where I was after information on engine swaps. I will be fixing and modding my 4k. I have a forum post on mighty car mods forum which I will edit a link in tonight. Now, my plans for the Rolla are: - Fix the miss in cylinder 1 - Buy extractors and finish building the custom exhaust - Fix the boot (its not bolted on, no inserts in the boot) - New steelies and tyres - New gaskets and piston rings - Paint it (red, orange, blue or white) - Weber carburettor Things I have done since I bought it: - New tachometer - Fixed the speakers - Full service Photos will be up tonight!
  20. Hello guys, I have bought an 1979 Corolla KE30, it's not in the best condition but I'm going to fix it. I want to buy new rims/wheels for it but I don't know what sizes that will fit without doing any modifications. Currently I know that the "Original" size are: 155/80 R13 5x13 4x114.30 ET27. This size is on the car now. Could you guys please help me out? :D
  21. o.k. here I am, relatively new to the forum, first post. I was working for a vehicle restoration company early last year when I got offered this KE36 for sale, at the time I was 16 and although I was interested garage space at home was lacking, I joined this forumn however in the hope that one day the car would become mine and I could get some ideas, so here I am, year and a half later, about to get my p plates when I get a phone call asking me if I am still interested or she was going to the wreckers, well I couldn't let that happen could I?? $200 + $70 for a tow home and the car was in my possesion! I will try to post regularly as I move on, however garage space is tiny and I am still at school (year 12... Eeek, so time is an issue. Rear Shot? Interior, Magna/Commodore Seats? Roof Racks
  22. Hi everyone I'm new here on rollaclub.com and wanna begin my adventure with classic Corollas. I have some project on my head that I'd like to get advise on. Basically I was wondering if KE55 Liftback and KE55 Coupe have the same bolts patterns so it's possible to swap their front ends: hood, guards, grill, headlights etc from liftback to coupe). Frogeye Coupe was avaulavble only in Japan but I'd like to make my own here in Oz. Tanks in advance for your replies! Cheers Peter
  23. Hey everyone I'm new to club and the whole ke corolla seen but ive just got a 1975 ke30 rolla with a 3k-h motor and i need help finding out whats wrong with the motor. Does anyone have any ideas what it could be ? Any help would be greatly appreciated
  24. Hi All, I drive a beautiful 1975 KE30 2door, running dedicated LPG on the stock motor with a 5speed K50 transmission. Car is a dream and a keeper, bought from a rolla club member Dale AKA doityourself on rollaclub. I have been driving the rolla for a few years now with no problems, runs beautifully and usually won't give me much starting trouble even on cold winter mornings, really reliable and well taken care of car. The praise should go to Dale (doityourself) for his beautiful work on the LPG conversion, custom exhaust and a lot more tlc. After a while the little engine can be a bit tedious and sometimes you itch for a little more excitement and oomf to match the cars personality, so on that note the time has come for a new heart... or engine, whatever you want to call it. The point of this thread really is to find the perfect Engine Conversion for me and my car. I want to make something beautiful, reliable, fairly economical, powerful, but not ridiculous. For the most part I am hoping to have JapaneseMotorsport (South Australia) handle the conversion and upgrades. I do want to one day do a project car at home by myself but this car isn't that project. This rolla is and will be my one and only daily for a long long time, I can't really see myself driving anything else. I want a professional, quality conversion and I don't trust my knowledge and skills enough to dive into an engine conversion at home. Money wise, for now lets just imagine its not an issue (of course it'll be an issue) I just really want intelligent, unique ideas, don't hold back! SO I want to make a final decision as I've been racking my brain looking and thinking about all the different engine swaps that have and haven't been done on the net. I want the overall best engine conversion for my 2door KE30 Corolla bringing these factors into thought: - Daily driver - Power, but will not be racing or drifting, just a little oomf and grunt - Sound and Looks - A big one, I DEFINITELY want to keep running dedicated LPG on the new engine I put in my rolla (don't have much info on how difficult that will be but any info would be appreciated!) - Decent-ish fuel economy - Preferably not turbo So thats about it, hopefully this sparks a good conversation over which is the overall BEST KE30 engine swap for a daily driver just looking for a better performance out of his favourite little car. Any unique conversions would be awesome, would love to do something that hasn't been done but not going to do something just because its different if its not the best choice overall. After all the reading I've done my mind at the moment sways towards a well built 20v 4age running LPG. Sorry for the long read and any dumb questions. Cheers! Joel
