  1. So this isn’t high on the priority list atm as we’ve got a few dozen other things to sort out on other things first, but I’m just trying to figure this out so I can plan/save for it. I currently have a ke36 that has a very rusty section of chassis under the engine. I’m after any advice/experience any members have with either repairing this themselves or a ballpark figure of how much a panel beater would charge if I was to go that route. As much info as possible would be great. thanks
  2. Hello, My first post. Just wanted to say hi and ask for some advice. And show of my new ride! Rust removal! I have a lot! Best way to fix please. I have some odd areas to get to. https://www.dropbox.....59.09.jpg?dl=0 https://www.dropbox.....57.47.jpg?dl=0 https://www.dropbox.....58.03.jpg?dl=0 https://www.dropbox.....58.27.jpg?dl=0 https://www.dropbox.....58.40.jpg?dl=0 https://www.dropbox.....54.38.jpg?dl=0 https://www.dropbox.....00.28.jpg?dl=0 https://www.dropbox.....00.38.jpg?dl=0 https://www.dropbox.....00.45.jpg?dl=0 https://www.dropbox.....01.13.jpg?dl=0 https://www.dropbox.....01.50.jpg?dl=0 https://www.dropbox.....04.07.jpg?dl=0
  3. Hi folks, I'm welding in patch panels and doing some general rust repair on my 1980 Corolla Wagon (TE72). Questions: --- 1. Can anyone tell me how to safely R+R the chrome trim that runs along the top of the car? I'd like to remove it for painting but I'm not sure how to take it off without bending it. 2. Can anyone suggest a good vinyl paint match for a tan/brown interior? I'll need to paint both the trim and the dash, they are different colors...and probably every single 'x-mas tree' connector holding the interior together since they pretty much explode whenever I look at them funny (apparently 34 year old plastic is a little on the brittle side) My car's VIN is TE7225002386 The window areas were in definite need of replacement. I was able to save the inner sill panel on the drivers side. On the passenger side the rust-out was bad enough that I had to replace both panels, fortunately my donor panel was rust free. The drivers side donor...well there unfortunately my 'new' panel (the only one to be had within 150 miles) had some pretty bad rust out too...so off to the MIG I go. Fortunately I now had plenty of extra sheet metal to work with. After all of that work I followed up with fiberglass filler and epoxy primer/sealer. Unfortunately this window sill design tends to collect water so I need to make sure everything is fully waterproofed, or at least as waterproof as I can reasonably make it. Once I finish the passenger side (yes that is PVC) I'll be replacing the hatch and treating all of the rust I found under the seal area with naval jelly. There's quite a lot of it but nothing deep enough to require panel replacement, just more filler.
  4. Hey guys, i've just got myself a Ke70, and there is quite a bit of rust that i wasn't able to see until i stripped the car down. I'm quite new to this and really this is my first time working on a car, so i'm not too aware of how to fix all rusted situations. So far I've removed some surface rust and minor rust here and there, but this rusted area was actually behind the left hand side fender. I saw that it was rusted from behind, so went and stripped the interior to investigate and found this. Its quite a tricky spot and i really don't know how to go about this. Any help would be greatly appreciated
  5. Hey all, Let me start by saying that I put the "rat rod" in quotation marks as that this word has been basterdized and I realise that what I'm referring to is not actually a rat rod. It's just the generally accepted term now. Anyway, having recently watched the latest mighty car mods ep, they rust up an old golf to give it the rat rod look. My question is, is this legal? I know it would be a beacon for the police anyway, but as long as you're not breaking the law that shouldn't be a real problem. Just annoying I guess. Has anyone done this or have any experience with these types of road laws?
