irokin
It is possible to remove the sump without removing the engine (Ive done it) but its a lot of stuffing around. Far far easier to remove the engine.
philba
What about just lifting the engine up a couple of inches?
irokin
Thats pretty much what you have to do. I might have dropped the cross member as well, can't remember. Seriously, just take the engine out, you will regret trying to do it with the engine in.

Bulant22
Did you use a sealant anywhere on the gasket? My 3K keeps pushing the "half moon" section around the rear of the crankshaft out.
altezzaclub
Don't do it up so tight Bulant, and if you take it off use a silicon sealant on both sides. I think the common problem is to screw them up so much it squeezes the rubber out, but overall its not a brilliant design. A rear leak is very common, and the hardest to get to if you want to fix it.
