3k Twin Aisan Carby Setup.

So far I'm thinking

28/36 DCD weber. MK1 GT cortina.

32/36 DGV weber. Cortina pinto 2 litre carby. I had one on my 3tc and didn't think much of it all. Really shit house on cold mornings.

Re-jetted 3k Aisan.

40mm DCOE's but that's $2,000 for the kit and tuning. Bit out of my budget.

Motor is a 5K, Mid range cam nothing extreme and extractors. Clean up of the exhaust ports too.

I recently had to sit down and weigh up the same thing. Looked at the DGV. You can buy a recoed one off ebay for about $600, full kit and kaboodle, ready to bold on! Gems Parts Australia quoted me $1095 for a single 45mm DCOM Webber and manifold, full kit ready to bolt on. I'd say a 40mm would be about a $100 less and $230 for the just manifold. A set of twin 40/45mm DCOM Webbers with manifold and full linkage kit was $1495 and $1595 respectively and $330 for the manifold.

Big money! Big enough to make me hunt around till Dad decided to front up with what he was hiding. If you look hard enough and have some flexibility, you get what you need.....

I'm in very much the same boat. I have a set of twin aisans and a 5K in the shed ready for a mild rebuild. I plan to stick with the original carbs because they are original and i already have them. If i had a webber in the shed i would probably go with one of those.

I can't imagine the stock carbs are that bad, the factory used them for extra performance so they have to be better than a factory single carb. Don't they? Sure it'll never be a world beater performance wise but it won't be with a webber either.

If you have the factory twins stick with those. If not the world is your oyster.

Though about bike carbs? This will the path I take if/when I upgrade from single stock carb. Other than the manifold and tuning side of things it looks fairly easy. And probably a lot cheaper than webers with comparable performance (from what I have read anyway), They have linkages already attached too which is a bonus, and it has been done a few times so there's a bit of info around the place here's some from rollaclub -

If anyone uses one of the older Weber carbs, particularly 32/36 sold in Escorts and Cortinas, make sure you check out the fuel fitting. There was a factory recall on the press-in fittings on these carbs, but most of them didn't find their way back to the factory. My mate only found out about it when his awesome Escort went up in flames. Turned out the weber I was about to put on my Gem was one of the "firebomb" originals, and when we took the fitting out it didn't put up much of a fight.

The solution is easy enough. Source a new barbed fuel hose fitting with a threaded mount, remove the old press-fit one, tap a thread, clean out the metal shavings and fit the new one, with an appropriate, fuel-resistant sealant or loctite.

Guys, don't fight with venturies, they really are 20/24mm(twin carbs),since I have a 2K engine it used to have a 19/24mm carb and original 3K carbs are 21/24,I think 4K and 5K carbs are about 26/28 or 25/28(i'm not sure for the first venturi),so if you have a 3K yeah it will gain some horses with two "singles",in my case i'm trying to put them into a 2K,i'm hoping for about 5 horses, but I still wanna figure out the jettings :/
