Rear Wheel Lock Ups

Hiya all,

Has anyone had experience before of a wheel spontaneously locking up?

The rear right on my KE36 panelvan locks up after being stationary or while in 1st gear. a number of mechanics and brakes specialists have looked

at it and it still hasnt been diagnosed. I think the diff is ok, also the gearbox, and i think its probs just the old brake cylinder, but??

Would anyone have any pointers?

I've been a bit stumped by it, and need to get it fixed asap, so i gotta find a good corolla mechanic in Hobart area.

Cheers all, go well..

So... is this meaning it stays locked on when the handbrake is released so you can't drive away??

or does it randomly lock on when you apply the brakes while travelling in 1st gear and stay locked up??

I'd check the handbrake cable very carefully to make sure it releases correctly and doesn't hold one side on.

Then swap shoes from one side to the other in case the wear on one leading edge shoe is causing sticking 'on'.

If its only one rear wheel it can't be anything from the T-piece forward, assuming KE36 are old enough to hav both rear lines working from one T-piece, so it must be inside that hub.

How do you get it to let go now?

thanks for the response evryone, what you've all said is what i've been leaning toward, and its good to get on this forum

and hear some experienced corolla minds advice, as i aint much of a mechanic. Having said that, after recently doing heaps of bodywork and some mechanical on the panelvan, i've learnt heaps.

-Altezzaclub, yea this is basically what happens, but it doesnt seem to lock on after applying brakes, mainly after the car has stopped, and i proceed to

drive again. to release it i put it in reverse, and swap between that and 1st til it seems to release,

driving back and forward. Quite a dodgy situation on a busy street, luckily that not often as my main driving is in the bush and highways.

-KE20rollabus, sounds perfect if your in kingston, my car is in Mt Nelson, i found your business listing in the ph directory. What is your name, i'll give you

a call at work and organise a time for around the 11th of next month, if that fits in with your schedule.

~Cheers all, good to be working through it.. Pictures of my baby on here soon.
