rey6194life Posted August 30, 2011 Report Share Posted August 30, 2011 hey so kind of manage to break my 4k the other night. its simply not starting anymore... ive taken the cap of the dizzy, and the two points are touching? is that normal or not? it kind of turns over but its like it has no spark, anychance its my coils? we have had my spark plugs out, to see if they spark and nothing, what do you guys think? coil? or dizzy? cheers Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
philbey Posted August 30, 2011 Report Share Posted August 30, 2011 Are your points gapped correctly? Closed is fine, as long as they open at the right moment. Check all your wiring, a simple disconnection between coil and dizzy can stop you dead. I've had coils fail, sometimes they run badly for a long time, sometimes they just seem to fail outright. altezzaclub Posted August 30, 2011 Report Share Posted August 30, 2011 ..and would you know how to set them?? Tell us what you can do and can't do on a car and we will know how to explain it to you. Points- they must have the rubbing block on the tip of the dizzy cam when you set them, and that is their maximum gap. The moment the cam goes past they start to close, and when closed they flow power through the coil to earth. Then when they open on the next cam shoulder power stops flowing and builds up in the coil. So, you will need the motor in the right part of its rotation to set the points, and if you change the gap you will change the timing & that will also need to be reset. Put a spot of grease on the point's rubbing block, otherwise it wears quickly when dry. How was it running over the last week?? Why did it stop starting? Mine did the same, replaced them all and away I went. okey so have got it running again, its running like crap, bt atleast its running... a screw came loose inside the dizzy and dropd down below the plate and blew the thigns to bit :P but have now rebuilt it using parts from my spare dizzy. does anyone have any idea what the point gap inside the dizzy is spose to be? cheers Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
