in regards to events.. are you in a motorsport club yet? if so have a look at the classes they have, some engines might not suit, others might work out.

are you after an old school combo? i wouldnt discount 2TG's, as they can be made to go quite well, and look period (awesome) in a ke25.

i have a 4age in my race rolla. i think its perfect for this car. nice light motor and revs to the sky. just really suits it.

remember, if you transplant a later motor into the car and want it engineered, the later the motor, the harder it will be to get done, with stricter emissions standards, more wiring etc etc.

if it were me, id be going a 2/3TG hybrid, a blacktop 4age converted to RWD (not that hard), or if your not totally toyota biased.. a CA18 or rotor.

What does a worked pinto with cosworth head put out? Guessing 200 - 300hp?

Worked 2L pinto can do up to 200hp last I looked which is pretty good.

2TG you can get new aftermarket 3tc internals to bore and stroke out,

but its the other stuff that's expensive - thats motor building for you.

200hp limit on 2tg.

Pinto in a ke25 would be weird to say the least... google images - TE27 :)

I had a 2TG in a 35, now transpanted into my 25.

I did it for old school cool, and the fact that the rally 35 had an intimate meeting with a couple of large brown leafy things and I had a 160 fly hp motor sitting on the floor.

Great low down grunt, but fickle on tune and set-up.

4ag would be the direction I'd go. Cheap, easy and tons of spare.

Cosworth head on a pinto will be cubic dollars to do right, and more fickle than a 2TG.

18R is a boat anchor. Put it out of your mind.

yeah they don't need that much work to do 200hp fly. where a 2/3TG is bordering on a cranky race motor to do the same.

formula atlantic 4age's only make 220-240hp and they arent exactly streetable.

fairly cranky pinto headed pinto's and datsun L series can get 200hp+.

oh and I'm sure OP said his mate was putting the pinto into an escort.

redwarf - my mate is collecting bits to make a cosworth headed pinto atm. yes theres alot of little bits and pieces you have to buy to make it work. once you have them though its fairly easy to get power out of them.

wasnt colin maccraes escort rally car rumoured to have 350+hp fly? i know jason richards BDA escort is somewhere around that too.

mattJA - as redwarf said, don't touch an 18RG with a 10ft pole. you might catch the aids they came with from the factory. even toytota enthusiasts stay away from them unless they are restoring a car that came with one from the factory.

so as i see it, it you want old school cool, go 2/3TG hybrid. and later if you want more powerz you can drop a 3TGTE straight into it.

if you want a sweetly balanced, compact rev to the sky motor with lots of options and good parts availability, go 4age. then later you could upgrade to blacktop/GZE/turbo/7AG later on.. or a combination :)

or if you want a toyota motor that will ultimately make the most power, go 3SGE beams. then later you could upgrade to a 3SGTE (st205 or later.. earlier ones are pooh). however i think this motor would be too heavy to be a sweet package in a KE25.

if you can get almost as much power as your mate, you should be able to use the smaller size, lightness etc to your advantage and still beat him if you play your cards right.

alright boys looks like I'm going for the 4age, you have talked me into it. 18rg's are out of the equation. plus i have found a few 4 age motors already, havnt seen a 2T.

going to have a read around on what to do to the 4age now for prime hp ie bore, stroke, head, crank etc. i just want to beat his scort but fairly, not just bolting a turbo on

i have found alot of more information on the conversion too which is good.

cheers for all your discussions too lads its been good. half the fun is talking about these little beauts.

if anyone knows of any ke's for sale could they let me know? I'm looking for a dailey stockish aswell as doing my project. :)
