Ke70 Love Wagon

After a long search for a Japanese "oldtimer" I got this last Thursday. It's a 1982 Toyota Corolla KE70 2 door wagon in more or less original state. Engine is 4K - 1.3l, carburettor, 8-valve OHV with maybe 55 hp.

It was left standing outside a garage for three years so it's in quite a rough condition, but it fired right up! Plans are complete overhaul and maybe 4AGE blacktop swap sometime in the future.

I'll have to take a look at starter later today because it doesn't work. I've put a new battery in, it takes some juice (lights on the cluster dim a bit when trying to start) but nothing happens.

I finally managed to get the rolla on ramps so I could take a look at the starter.

I got it out after almost an hour of trying as it's in the most ʞ©$ɟed up place. The pinion goes out, but doesn't spin, not even when connected directly to the battery. I got the starter motor apart, changed one of the brushes that was too small and renewed the collector surface.

Now the pinion spins, but only when connected directly to power source. So I took apart the solenoid as there was no connection between the + cable terminal and the one that powers the starter motor. That was quite easy to fix, but it still doesn't work. The solenoid pulls out the pinion, but it doesn't spin.

My friend confirmed the solenoid is shot so I have to order a new one

2; This thread actually has great spelling and grammar, Plus you have a good camera.

This makes me happy!!!

Look forward to the updates :jamie:

Thanks! I'm still not sure if I like those headlights or if I should get the quad lamps...

Since the new solenoid still isn't here, I'll have another round of dealing with the insulation or whatever is the stuff on the floor called later today.

Got the passenger's side and rear part of the driver's side (this one's LHD, just to clarify) done and this is the only bad spot. The rest is just fine. Now comes the worst part, the space under drivers seat and footwell.

I assembled the starter just to find out the solenoid doesn't work... quick check confirmed that I need to adjust the rod so it connects the two top terminals once it's on. Now it worked just fine, I put it back together and nothing... the solenoid works, but the starter motor doesn't spin... It decided to give up just as I got the new solenoid... ʞ©$ɟ me
