Hi all I'm clearly new here and am in need of some help and/or advise.

I have just got myself a 1988 gtfx 1600 4age 5 speed manual.

now the car is overrated but the clutch feels like it's sticking and ridding. when i'm driving i can feel the clutch is not right when i'm driving. that and i can smell the clutch when i stop. what is the best cost effective options i have??????

any advise or help will be awesome.

thanks. D

From cheapest to most expensive:

- Adjust clutch pushrod under the dash

- Make sure you have enough clutch fluid, add more if needed

- Replace slave cylinder if it's faulty

- Replace/rebuild master cylinder if it's faulty

- Pull the engine and gearbox out and check/replace the clutch

- Buy a new car

But before you do any of this, I'd go out and buy a repair manual.

lol- nice work Rian!

i can smell the clutch

That suggests option 5, or maybe 6 if you're not mechanically minded!

I hate FWDs, and you're about to find out why... To remove the gearbox means pulling the driveshafts out, whch means pulling the suspension apart, then pulling the gear linkages out, then pulling the gearbox off to get to the clutch and replace it!

I've never done a FWD Corolla, but I expect they are like most FWDs.

Good luck

FWD aren't as bad as people think, not as easy as a hilux or landcruiser, but still easy none the less, toyotas at least. But that said I would still rather a landcruiser or hilux, hiace would have to be the easiest clutch to do, ever, haha. But everything else on them is stupid, haha.
