--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Well i am soon to sell my 94' gmc saffari ext awd custom converision van- and just found this. My best bud that i have known sinc i was 12 (eric bakken) well his Fience's Grand father just died a couple weeks ago- i have been eyeing his PERFECT conditon (except the wonder full smell and no battery) 1978 toyota corrola 1.2 lt L4 rwd 5E30 5 speed manual trans four door silver in color. It has no rust no mechancle problems (except the battery). It has all orginal EVERYTHING from the orginal crome trim, the orginal 13 " rims, to even a chrome and black roof rack (which is not driller btw it is hooked to the rain trim about the windows). It runs and drives and still get 40mpg.

What i am asking is how much do you think i should offer for it?

Also if you are interested at all in the van let me know here is the add i have posted up.

either pm me here, at myspace, or email me, or even call me - although good luck getting somehting othter then my answering machine.

Engine conversions? As for this- how much power to the ground am i going to need to say pull a 12 flat? I can't imagine it would be that much- Also is there ANYONE in the MN area that is into these cars? cause i don't know a sole that knows ANYTHING about them.

So I take it, what you say, is that you are looking at buying an immaculate KE30 sedan, and want to know what you are going to have to do to make the car run a 12 second quarter mile pass, keeping in mind that weight plays an important pass in achieving this therefore asking how much the car weighs?

Or you came here looking for a dealer so you could get some more crack...

I combined two posts of mine from two forums to save time- sorry for your confusion.

1. i am asking how much you think i should offer for the car- (the corrolla not the van)

2. How much it wieghs

3. the wieght i would like to know because from my understanding it only takes 80whp to get them spinning just one wheel.

4. the power to the ground i would need to pull a 12 flat (i want this to keep up with my fiero)

5. With knowing how much power it need to pull that 12 if i am going to get a limited slip or not. I have a 327 sbc at home. That might end up in the this car.

6. i am selling my van might as well ask if any of you all are intereested.

--------

Lastly there was no reason for you guys to be be all WTF and saying tha ti am on crak- lets get past all the internet bs- i am just looking for some quick info- seeing that i can't find shat for info on the car-

Engine

Search around the site for V8 conversions.

If you want to keep it so it will handle, consider loking into doing a Turbo conversion.

A few people have done the CA18DET conversion, others do the 4AGZE conversion, others throw in a 1GGZE and then they remove the supercharger and slap on a custom exhaust manifold to accept a turbo.

Be prepared that this will cost you a pretty penny, so first off, work out a budget.

Diff

These corolla's don't come with a LSD as an option from the factory either so you either have to shorten a LSD down, get leaf spring mounts welded to it and bolt that up, which will then also require a custom tailshaft to accept the new diff or you get a TA22 celica diff, weld mounts to it and bolt that up, modify the tailshaft if need be to accept that diff's yoke and there you go.

Gearbox

But as with all these mods, you're going to want to change the gearbox. Plenty of options out there, being auto or manual.

I've noticed that the most widely used gearbox for manual conversions is the w5x series gearbox that came out in Supra's.

Not sure on mounting up one of these bad boy's but you may require a custom gearbox mount to get it to bolt to the chassis rails and possible widening of the transmission tunnel to fit the gearbox in there.

Engine Mounting

Also engine mounting will need to be looked at, mainly cutting the original mounts up and making some custom ones to weld onto it to suit the engine you're putting in.

The people that go the 4AGE/4AGZE route usually use escort/cortina engine mounts or they get a set of RWD AE86/AE71 engine mounts and shorten one side or if they don't do that they cut the original mounts off the engine cross-member and weld them into the right spots.

Brakes/Suspension/Steering

Search around the forum for brake conversions on a KE30, KE55 as thats what you'll ultimately be after.

Also included in this section would be the lower control arms or adjustable strut tops, as these car's have no adjustment for camber. Look around for that too.

Thats as much information as I can give you about that.

Exhaust

Exhaust will also have to be custom and if you want this car to be street registered, you'll have to get it engineered.

ECU/Fuelling

An engine management system will also have to be looked at. Something aftermarket if you're going the turbo route will be the way to go.

You'll also need to modify the existing fuel tank so you can run EFI on these cars, along with a fuel return line going back to the tank as these cars don't have them from what I recall.

Good luck and Welcome to Rollaclub!

If I've missed anything, someone should be able top fill you in. :faq:

or just open the bleeder on the right rear and burn 'em untill they (it) pops

yeah i am in the USA- i am from the northern twincities in MN.

And thanks for all the info.- now here is a quick hint to ya'll i have done everythign from muscle cars to well the fiero and other ricey cars. BUT i can pick this car up for like 600 bucks SO....

I figuer i should do it up becuase to be honest i haven't even seen one that old in real life except that one- . Also just for my own benifit i know NOTHING about toyotas except they are a pain in the ass to do a oil change on because of the oil filter being RIGHT by that exaust manifold (i am have a part time job at valvoline so not too fun- just in case kind of job- i am a mortgage broker hence the van)

thanks for the quick info man. I was thinking either the v8 conversion or a vg30det(or tt) i know a place to pick up the vg for 1500 plus tranny and the rest of the goodies.

Isn't the ca18t a s12 motor? What trans they usually use with that? a 240 5 speed? at that rate why not a ka motor turned ka-t? then one could use some moates setups with the wiring harness and so on.

Raven thanks-

what is that 1GGZE out of - can't find it on wiki

KA motor is non-turbo for a start as you pointed that out. A better better option would be to import a motor from a 180sx as opposed to the non-turbo 240sx.

Less hassles in running a turbo then as the SR20DET is a strong turbo motor. Not sure about the 2.4L non turbo motor though as we never got them here in Australia as far as I know.

as for the sr motor YES you are correct strong motor- as far as the market for it here in the USA- it is much more difficult to play with - if it blows up your screwed- so as for the KA motor alot of the drag 240 racers use them around here beucase ifyou blow a motor you can pic up one for say 150 bucks- cause nobody wants them they all want the sr becuase of the F and F movies that have come to us like a plauge from hell.

ka-t.org is a good site for that. i looked it up and there was a version of the s12 or the 200sx (fromt he 80's) that had the ca18det motor here in the states. but still can't find anything on the 1ggze motor- you know anythign about it - i assume that is a yota motor.

Actually we got the KA24E in the Pintara/Corsair bungle, and the KA24DE in the U13 Bluebirds, pretty solid motors really. 'Bout 115kw at the fly for the DE, a black U13is near the top of my list for a car to buy when I get rid of the 102

ok makes more sense....i want to think you meant "te30" rather than ke30 (or 5 for that matter)

why not just put a 4age in it, they're really plentiful, there's TONS of info on how to do the swap and best of all......they're cheap

if it's as clean as you say, i'd say it's worth at least a grand

i just turned down an offer for 5 large on daisy
