  1. Need some help, currently building a 4k engine and i'm suffering coil bind with my valve springs. what set ups have people used like what spring, retainers and collets are used, and any machining that is done etc etc any help would be greatly appreciated
  2. Hey everyone, need a measurment off a standard slant front ke70, distance between the core of radiator and the engine fan hub so i can make up an fan shroud to suit as deep as possible. Cheers
  3. Hey guys I'm building up my hot 4k but by the time the head is machined and adding the .440 thou lift cam, rocker spec are going to be out so my push rods are going to be to long anyone know of a push rod that is a .100 thou shorter or custom rods?? :hmm:
  4. Yea the 110RWHP is getting up there but possible, engine hasn't cost much to build, i work in a gearcutting and engineering shop. The only thing i haven't done is get a old head an segment cut every 10-15mm to see how much room there is in the head, poor flow are whats holding these engines back. To enter and compete in our local races there is a 1500cc limit, but when i go down and do big events governed by CAMS, limits come in to play so to do the noosa hill climb and targa events etc etc i come under the "A" class which is 0-1300cc so i'm only racing against mini's, austin healy sprite's etc etc. i've been told with these engines when they getting upto high rpm's the block suffer from harmonics and crack, does anyone have any info or pic's??
  5. ha ha ha yea i wish twincam, cross flow etc etc :laff: yea exhaust valves are quite restrictive when i'm running such a big cam and the dellortos  battery is in the boot electric thermo fan done modified and lightend bumpers modified and lightend front chassis and k frame At the end of the day it will be 850 KG max with roughly 110 RWHP  Engine spec are close to the Trd stage 3 build on a 3k that produce 165 hp I'm running a k50 box but i have a another pulled down and i'm making custom high tensile gears, same steel as whats used in earth moving equipment, need to find a electric dissy, i was going to modify a steering rack to get really quick responsive steering but its pushing the limits of street rego :hmm: should be fun :laff:
  6. Hey guys cheers for the info about the diff i've heard that the axles, crown and pinion gears in the stock diff are pretty strong just the spider gears are crap ?? anyways i'll have to keep an eye out for a t18 rear end or unless you guys know of one around?? Main reason for sticking with the 4K is Racing class limitations once you go above that 1500cc mark i've got no chance against 4age ca18et etc etc
  7. Hey guys just chasing some input about my 4k motor build, its going to be street registered but will be used for motorkhana's, hill climbs etc etc, wondering if there is anything i need to look out for :hmm: , Full engine rebuild .020 oversize blanced and lighten internals The LAST adjustable romac timing kit in AUST  30/70 tighe 424 cam grind .440 lift ported and polish head port matched manifolds and extractors 31mm ex valve stock 28mm, 38mm inlet valves stock 36mm h/d valve springs, collets and retainers lightened flywheel about 1.5kg mainly on the outter casting rim minium 10.5:1 compression Will be running twin DHLA40 dellortos AKA webbers extractors with a 2" sports exhaust system 5sp manual with a phamtom grip diff center
  8. after looking at all my options i have come to a decision of then tighe 104, i'm going to be running heavy duty valve springs and going for static compression of 9.8:1 when going for a high lift cam (.423) will i have to machine down the rocker shaft blocks to suit?? :D also is it worth getting or modifing the cam gear to have multi keyways to advance and retard the timing( is it really worth it??). Thanks for everyone help so far :laff:
  9. The engine is just a 4k, looking at the spec's the 104 looks like the go, but my local engine builder thinks that a 25 65 cam is a little small and thinks i should be loking at a 30 70 like the 240 arghhh so confusing
  10. i've had a look into things and i have found that the maxium static compression i would really what to run would be 9.8:1 here in Central Queensland Gladstone there is only two servos that i know of that offer 98 octane fuel but even then their supply is not constant and not of the best quality. but i'm saying that is it possible to build my motor to have around 8.5 dynamic which is up around 10.5:1 static and retard my timing to suit the fuel aviable?? These are the cams suggested by tighe Advertised timing duration lift in ex in ex in ex 424 31 70 276 281 0.450" 0.450" Rally (PRC Advertised timing duration lift in ex in ex in ex 140 37 71 287 288 0.488" 0.488" Twin Carb/Fast Road
  11. what sort of compression should i be chasing philbey?? do you agree that that the cams suggested are too large and manily high rpm use for what in planning on doing or ???
  12. Hey everyone i'm new to rollaclub, great site heaps of info, I'm building up my 84 ke70 as a street/ motorkahana/ kahanacross, hill climb car  So far i have converted the car from auto to manual using a k50 box etc, i'm running hurricain headers with a 2" exhaust system i have another head i'm working now, running 30mm exhaust valves over stock 29mm and i have changed from stock inlet 36mm to 38mm, ported and polished head with a three angle vavle grind. i will be shaving the head to get the compression up to around 9.5:1 The car will be running Twin DHLA40's on redline manifolds. i'm trying to work out what cam i'll need for my application i have spoken to dean tighe at Tighe Cams and he suggested a 424 or 140 but i'm worried that in going to lose too much down low torque (with over 280 duration) any help or suggestions would be appreciated, Thanks, 84ke70
