Guys,

Noob here (disclaimer done), currently in Malaysia(!). Great food and great classic japanese cars here. Speaking of which ;), I'm the proud owner of a very questionably modified ke 35 corolla in need of a new engine.I thought I'd tap the combined wisdom of these forums..

I've been reading up and I think the 4a-swap is the way to go, but ideally I'd like to get the 4a-gze for a little extra oomph. Most of the gze engines are the fwd ae111s, and based on what I've read, I'm keeping my eye out for an ae101 halfcut. In the meantime, I found an engine/gearbox combo in good shape for decent money ($700), but a friend pointed out that I'd have to source the ECU, extras (e.g. radiator/intercooler.. etc), and rear LSD to make this work. Any views on if this is way too complicated?

The car needs a lot of TLC, and I'm hoping to get her back to old school style in the long term.

More pictures to come, heres one for now :)

Very nice car. No need to buy a halfcut really, you'll be left with alot of stuff that you don't need. Like the front end of a car. Just try and source a complete motor and a T50 or any gearbox of your choice.

T50 would probably be easiest/cheapest.

You will have to get crossmembers and mounts made or modified and I'm not sure about tailshaft and diff etc.

Someone else will know alot better than me

willis : thanks for that, sounds like its the opposite of what I was thinking.. hokay, but what about the extras: i assume ecu/wiring looms would be a necessity?

I'm also on the hunt for some old school rims.. 15s perhaps might look better on the car.

Ah yeah, an EFI motor needs an ECU and all the necessaries to work...If you buy a complete motor, all of it is likely to be included in the sale. Speak to an import wrecker maybe? It's not exactly a "bolt in" conversion
