  1. Got the pistons! but now I need valve springs and a camshaft! Any leads? Pete
  2. awesome, how do I get ahold of you. cast flat tops .20 over would be great! I aint planning on making a highly stressed motor. Pete psteilberg at mhlseattle dot com.
  3. I talked to venolia, wasn't sure i wanted to spend the coin and wait 3 weeks.... Special rods are big bucks for an old school set-up. OK for a teardown after every race, not for a motor that you want to teardown every 4-5 years. I'm just vintage racing.
  4. Stu, I agree, I should have said, not a long lasting set up meaning, I am a cheap bastard and I don't want to build a grenade motor. How can I find rods that will fit these pistons into a 4K -- good luck huh? I wish there were more of these rigs in the US. Pete
  5. so if the pins are larger, what rods do you use? The pins are also higher up in the piston and skirts are pornographically short. One ring too. Could these go in a 4K? Seems taht they would not be "long lasting" pistons. Pete
  6. yeah, I called mahle, no luck. Venolia will build them cheapest $400 or so. Here are a couple more pictures. Since these were taken we fixed some minor rust in the towers and where the fenders met the fire wall and we added a proper braking system with a new pedal and new reservoir. We also put in a stainless exhaust. BTW I went and looked at my TRD 3k race pistons and the pins are LARGER than stock. WTF? I'll send pics of those too, later. Maybe someone can ID them.
  7. what about putting 5k pistons liners in a 4k, are the cranks identical? will bore spacing work?
  8. Here is a picture of the race car that needs pistons -- its a Ke 17, and its been raced since 1971 pretty much constantly. BTW, have some original forged race pistons for a 3k -- the pins are different, bigger -- also they are a short skirt single ring. Very trick. I don't want em. I want longevity.
  9. sorry, what about OE pistons? does anyone make a 20 over OEM piston for a 4k.
  10. does anybody know where I can get forged flat tops for a 4k?
  11. Hey clairification on the pistons. The wrist pin is larger diameter than stock. The pistons are cast, not forged. Wrist pin is .060 closer to the top of piston and the pistons have only one compression ring and they have valve reliefs cut into them. Hope this helps. Sent from my iPhone
  12. So now I have even more questions. I have, in a box, a brand new set of forged race pistons. The pin diameter is smaller (will get specs soon) than stock and the piston tops are cut for valves. The skirts are really short (like short skirts?). I have NO idea what they fit, but they appear to be about 60 thou short. They came with the car. Could they be to a 4k or 5k? I wonder if I could source some longer rods to make up the difference. Do any of you know? The rods appear stock too, but well prepped. The pistons held up well. I have another set of good used ones. Do you think I should just use the stockers? They seem to have worked well in the past. I sure wish I could find a 4k or 5k here in the states. It would be nice to not twist a motor as much and still get the power. Our eligibility cut off is 1969 (I call my car a KE15 to get by that rule). But heck, we have 510 running 1800s which did not come out until mid 70s and porsches with 2.7s and 2002s with M3 bottom ends and t5 trannies. I don't feel bad about a bigger motor if I can get one. It is not real racing. Its idiots goofing off. I like it that way. Thanks Pete
  13. I have a KE17 sprinter race car in Seattle. I got it in a trade for a cortina project and raced it once. I liked the car and decided to restore it. I just redid the body/chassis but the motor needs help now. It has a 1200 3k in it, but one of the original TRD pistons had cracked ring and I am scared to use it. I have heard that a 4k or 5k looks the same and swaps in. I was thinking that would work, but it would need to fit with my trick head and intake manifold. is a 1200 head a bolt on for a 4k or 5k? The new motor needs to look identical to the original or I'll get busted. What cars used the 4k and 5k here. I see many are T motors and they look totally different. I attached some pictures of the car. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Pete
