  1. Right! I had a look again at the carb today with a fresh set of eyes. It turned out the reason I had a high idle was because the throttle arm which connected to the throttle cable was hitting on the inlet manifold :rolls: I adjusted it so that it didnt hit anymore and it dropped down to 800rpm... :bash: I took the car out for a drive and after I adjusted the idle mixture screw and the idle level, I give a large bootfull and it seemed a bit held back- but it still bogged this time when I went to put my foot down again (a reasonable amount) . I pulled the vacuum advance pipe off and plugged the hole, it still didnt make much differnce. I then advanced the timing right up (forward-advanced) but I'm yet to try that. I'm thinking maybe it might be float level. I can't find a guide though to adjust them. Is it easy? and do a need to buy new gaskets? (I have gasket paper) Any help would be cool. If I check the float levels and its not them at least I can eliminate them from the equation.
  2. Weber did a turbo carb setup in the 80's for UK Ford Escorts CVH engines. I think maybe they were distributed by Janspeed or Turbo technics in the UK. Also maybe have a look at the setup on Renault 5 GT Turbos. They were carb turbo.
  3. Cool! It raining and dark now so I'll have a look tomorrow. When I open the chokes and pull the throttle back the jets do squirt into the carb. How strong and for how long, well its a bit hard to put into words!! I will have a look at where the throttle stop sits under the carb (as per pic) and see what it is set at. I might have a tweek of the timing too and see if its makes any differnce. Trouble is tweeking a carb especially a weber 32/36 is a little noisey and I don't want to become too unpopular with the neighbours.. :rolls: Cheers for the help so far! Hopefully I can sort this out, without too much hassle. I don't mind spending cash but I don't want to keep lashing out on stuff trying to find the problem if you know what I mean. :bash: I'm new to carbs, most of the cars Ive had in the past have been efi. :laff:
  4. Just to be sure, am I right in thinking that the choke is the two flaps on top of the carb, if I move them (open) I would be able to see the lower "flaps" and jets etc.. If the carb has another jet/screw (I don't think it has) would it be obvious, or would it be difficult to see i.e under a alcove or under an anti tamper plug. Cheers for the replies
  5. The throttle cable wasnt connected at first, I started it up before connecting it. The arm (throttle) is returning back to where it should. Ill try with the vacuum advance plugged and see what happens, ill try the timing too!
  6. Hello, I have just fitted a 2nd hand Weber 32/36 dgav to my 4ac. I have a few troubles i'd like to pick peoples brains on!! The carb: "meant" to be freshly removed from a 4ac, so should be jetted correctly.... The problem is it idles at about 2000 rpm, idle screw turned off (not touching the throttle lever) idle mixture screw set at 2 turns out, ive tryed a 1 and 1/2 and less doesnt seem to make any differnce. I have checked for vacuum leaks with carb cleaner - no difference, saturated the carb and inlet manifold etc.. It also wont go to what - it just bogs down and then stalls.. I have adjusted the fast idle so it doesnt interact with carb, ( it was idling even higher ) I'm in Australia so the ambient temperature is about 23C in the morning. I followed the guide on here and one on ae86drivingclub. The vacuum is atteched to the dizzy. The dizzy is an electronic ignition unit. I havent checked the timing though, it ran fine on the old OE carb.. I have a Holley adjustable fuel pressure regulator on the fuel line - just before the carb, it was set to 4psi +/- a new fuel filter was installed too. Today I ran the fuel pipe straight to the carb to see if it was a lack of fuel pressure but it made no difference. I can just about drive the car on 1/4 throttle (using idle jets?) but the sec I put my foot down it just boggs down real bad. I have been reading up a lot recently on Weber carbs but I'm still not sure whats going on. Do any of the symptoms seem common with a particular fault like wrong jets or float levels or something?? :lolcry:
