I thought it might've been, are the easy enough to dismantle or in your opinion am I better off trying my luck with a $50 alternator from a wreckers?

Can anyone help me with locating the regulator on my ae92 ("4wd" wagon) sorry if this is a stupid post but I'm unsure where the regulator is and want to find it to see if the brushes are making contact properly as my batter light is on constantly and idles low and lights dim. Have replaced the battery with a new Toyota approved one and still the same problem and I'd prefer to check the regulator first before replacing the alternator. Sorry again if I've posted this in the place
