  1. Thanks for the quick reply banjo

The red mark is where a line is across the front pulley

I've just taken the belt off and scraped the paint off the rear pulley and I can just make out a tiny indent .

I've smeared some liquid paper over the area and wiped it off sure enough a very small line was left as luck has it it lines up with the 10 btdc mark ( I read somewhere that's what a hot cam should be set too).

I did try moving the dizzy and turned anti clockwise it speeded up and clockwise slowed her down then I ran out of movement. At first I had the Vacuum pipe connected direct to the manifold and it raced took it off and she slowed now its connected to the carb plate it is better. need to get some more fuel and try again Would plugs make a difference I can't get the BE529Y plugs but put a plug with a long reach electrode same 5 rating (twin squish head)

  2. Ok I have a worked 4k

    280 duration Cam

    std 4k Carb

    2 inch exhaust

    Electronic Dizzy

I am running it on a test bed starts well but I can not get the idle down below 11- 1200 rpm

I have checked and replaced all the vacuum hoses I have only three connected as follows

advance pipe from Dizzy to heat shield spacer at the bottom of the carb

pcv valve to the same plate

    choke thingiy from manifold

    See Pictures below

The carb was rebuilt and double checked for settings it runs well and revs cleanly

Question 1 does there need to be gaskets either side of the heat plate ?

Problem 2 I have taken number 1 plug out and turned the engine over so piston is at TDC rotor pointing at number 1 plug lead on cap (central to number 2 plug as stated in 4k engine manual) both valves free i.e. closed But the timing mark on the pulley is way of see below pic .I have checked the pulley for other timing marks and there is just the one.

Is it possible the cam timing is way off ? when I put the cam in the head was off and I put the piston to TDC lined up all the marks as per book.

    thanks in advance

  3. It is a test stand I have built I have just turned the engine over and it fired ok .

I took the alternator off the engine and put a multimeter from the b post to the alternator body and got continuity . I checked on an old externaly regulated alternator I have here and no continuity so I think maybe its a fault with the alternator (was bought used)

  4. Ok I have a 4k engine on my test stand

it has a denso alternator with an internal regulator

if i connect the 3 pin plug all wires double checked for correct wiring and the B post cable to Battery positive when ignition is on I get no charge lamp but when i crank the engine I get a charge light.

If I remove the cable from the B post light comes on with ignition

    please help

    thanks

  5. Thanks for that will check it later I have built an Engine test bed so will be running it up in the next week or two at the moment just using the asian carby with a foam air filter and very short 2 inch exhaust.

the motor will go in my Lotus 7 replica when done with a T50 box and ke 30 rear axle .

I didn't strip the donor nor have i heard it run the car corolla it came from had been flooded so had to replace all the electrics (dizzy.coil alternator etc ) been a mission here in Thailand as i speak very little Thai

so thanks again for you help .

  6. Thank you for your reply

    My Cam card says

    intake cam lift 0.284"

    exhaust cam lift 0.284"

so if I multiply that by 1.5 it gives me 426 valve lift

    426 - 338 = 88

88 / 1.5 = 58.7 thou to be ground of the rocker posts that's about 1.5 mm is that correct ?

  7. Toyota 4K

I have had my cam reground and when I fitted it the tappet adjusters are at the limit of adjustment just to get the recommended 0.16" clearance.

I have since read that the rocker posts need machining with the difference from stock valve lift to valve lift from ground Camshaft

    My questions are :

    1. What is the stock lift ?

2.How do i calculate the new lift from the cam lift spec ?

  8. Hi

    1. does this have a built in igniter

    2. It has 2 wires one black and white the other brown how do I wire it up ?

    3. What coil would you recommend

    Thanks in advance
