  1. Banjo, Ok the water pump has arrived and its the same spec as the measurements you gave earlier: The water pump shaft is 16mm in dia. The four (4) mounting holes are each 31mm apart. C/P to C/P. So lets move forward with getting me the pulley and lower alternator bracket. No AC on this motor either and I won't be needing it. I'll PM you my mailing address so you can get a shipping quote and let me know a fair price. Cheers, Bill
  2. Banjo, Quick update for you. I just ordered the later style water pump like the one pictured on your motor. I'll wait til it arrives to confirm dimensions, but assuming they are good I'll definitely take you up on that pulley (small hole/deep dish). I also just noticed there looks to be a lower alternator bracket on your motor. I may need to track down one of these as well if you have any to spare. Bill
  3. I'm tempted to by the new 4K water pump and try to make that work. In which case I would be interested in your standard 4K pulley. But I'm gonna give it a few weeks to see if I can find the 3k style pulley first. Cheers Bill
  4. So after lots of time on the internet last night I think I've determined that I have a 4K motor fitted with a 3k water pump. After some inquiry to the previous owner I determined it had been powering. 1972 corolla in its previous life. So I guess I need a 3k water pump pulley. Bill
  5. Fantastic Banjo! Really appreciate you going the extra mile on this one. Bill
  6. Banjo, Appears you're right. Different pulleys fro sure. The water pump bolt patterns even look a little different. My shaft diameter where the pulley mounts is 24mm. My transmission distance (shifter to end of the bell housing) is also 21.5" and I can only seem to find 4 forward gears so I'm pretty sure its a 4 speed. I've attached a few more pictures. Any ideas what year they switched water pumps? Or which version I have?
  7. I'll get some measurements tomorrow on the tranny and also on the water pump center (snout) diameter. Haven't done any length measurements on the transmission. Only the eye ball test Thanks! Bill
  8. Banjo, Thanks for the warm welcome. The Engine is not in the car yet, but it is physically similar in size to the 1275 Sprite motor and also has the intake/exhaust on the same side. Bonus that the 4K is a slant 4 so it will clear the low hood on the Sprite. I'm using the gearbox that came with the motor which is a toyota 4 speed for now. May upgrade to a 5 speed at some point if it isn't too much hassle. The biggest issues with he swap will be a custom drive shaft (plenty of good shops who will do that for cheap here), building custom motor mounts, and adapting a transmission cross-member. I'm a decent welder so I'm not to worried about the mounts and cross member. I honestly would never have gone at this project but was given the car for free, and then the motor for free from another person. It's not a nice enough car to restore back to original so I figured I'd just play around and see if I could make a little budget driver. Sprites only weigh about 1600 lbs. soaking wet so should be good match for the 4K in terms of power. Maybe you can shed some light on what version 4K I have. The engine ID number (see picture) just says "4k" not "4K-C". It did not come with any fan, but I'm planning on running an electric fan setup. Take a peak at the pictures and see what you think. Sorry in advance the pictures aren't great and the 4K is shoved up against a 5.0L Ford motor which is destined for another project (yeah I'm that guy).
  9. Greetings from the West Coast of the United States. I'm currently working on a Austin Healey Sprite project that will be powered by a Corolla 4K engine. It's a long story but essentially the original motor was seized and I was given a 4K in good shape for free. Unfortunately said 4K is missing the water pump pulley. And since this motor only had limited offerings in the US I'm having a hell of a time tracking down a pulley. Anyone out there able to help? From what I can tell I need the KE55 style pulley that fits the water pump with the wider snout. Thanks in advance, Bill
