  2. sweet as man! i might be hittin you up
  3. Sweet as man, cheers - how much? I'm checkin it out again tomorrow to have a closer look at a couple of things but hopefully it'll check out and i'll pick er up
  4. Hey guys, If I'm to go ahead with picking up this 81 Rolla, I'm gonna need to get an ACT Roadworthy Certificate. I was wondering if you guys could recommend any particular mechanics that are understanding with older cars. This car has good brakes/tyres/reasonable suspension and doesnt blow huge clouds of smoke (I think a little gear change puff is there) but I don't want to take it to someone who thinks all old cars are shitty and need to be taken off the road and will fail me on some bullshit unnecessary repair job. What do you guys recommend? Cheers,
  5. Thats the one seabiscuit! I offered him 1100 but he said no, so I'm gonna lay low for a while and have another crack at it this week but I'm pretty keen to pick her up. I just thought the 1400 he wants is a lil bit steep and I reckon I can talk him down sooner or later. In my brief look I found a few things to fix - the choke doesnt work, but I didnt have time to have a proper look to see if its the cable or a buggered butterfly plate, the front left suspension grinds around really tight corners and I figure its the bushes or the bearings (any ideas?), and he said something like his mechanic said it'd need a new manifold because this one is starting to rust. He was pretty clueless, but I think he was talking about the exhaust manifold. You champs are prolly right about the power too - when I first started riding i remember saying "nah my 250 is sweet and has all the power I need". That didnt last long :hmm:.
  6. Ahh thats good to hear for me. I'm not much of a modder - I've got my bike for goin quick. I just think these old rollas are little gems!
  7. You're probably right I reckon, it wasnt blowing any smoke and seemed to have plenty of go for a 1300 - except the choke didnt work. I had a quick look and I think its just a broken cable but if not, carby kits are pretty cheap these days arent they? I'm probably pickin her up this weekend
  8. Yea there arent many cars I'd trust more than an old rolla, except for maybe an hj47 troopy :). Nah I'm pretty keen to pick this ol girl up but just wondering if the motors over the hill yet. If its anything like the diesels from the ol landcruisers, she'll be up for another 300k no worries!
  9. Hahah well the price is right but I'm seein if the guy is just trying to hospital pass a lemon to me :P. I aint afraid of gettin my hands grubby but i don't want a lemon :)
  10. Hey guys, I'm thinking about picking up a 1981 KE55 coupe with a 5 speed in it, but I'm a bit worried about the engine and box. As far as I can tell its the original 4k, and its got 350,000 on the clock. The engine seems to run pretty well, but with a motor that old am I about to get myself into a whole world of pain? How much longer can I expect to get out of the lil 1300 before something is likely to blow? Is there anything else I need to keep my eye out on a rolla like this? Cheers,
