  1. Mate you are a f@$king legend, this worked perfectly. I presumed the shaft would be in the way but there was just enough room. Diff splines look alright, CRC'd and can't see bare metal or any inconsistency with other one so presuming/hoping they're fine. Thanks to all for putting forward your ideas/experiences, Rollaclub saves the day once again!
  2. Yes it did snap at spline end but there was just enough left to stop me from removing diff centre without removing the whole housing aswell, may have been because I drove it home about 7 kms or so because when I did bang the whole housing on the ground(as explained by Rolliac), part of the axle fell out(thus allowing diff centre to be removed), but still some of the spline remained. Brent that's an excellent idea, ill try self tapping a bolt(as I have no welder/welding skills) into the left over spline and using a puller to remove. Cheers guys your abundant ideas/knowledge is the exact reason this is the place I search when I have any problems with my Rolla.
  3. yeah unfortunately AltezzaClub and Redwarf are correct, pinion gear shaft is in the way from pushing through. Followed Rolliac's advice of removing whole diff housing and smashing on ground, this got enough of the broken axle out for me to remove my diff, but part of the spline is still stuck in there When you say you knocked the remains out on a bench Redwarf how did you accomplish this? I was using Rolliac's suggestion but it only got part of it out, and I was smashing pretty hard, also remember I can't push it into the centre of the diff because being welded on the spider gears there's no way of getting it afterwards
  4. Ahh sorry Rolliac my mistake :) .. Yeh pretty much looks like the path I'm going to have to take. Thanks raven for confirming the incompatibility. And when i said obtain U series diff from celica, surprised noone picked up on that, obviously meant T series I used to have shitloads of links with info for interchangeable parts between old toys but upgrading windows has meant they're no longer with me so sorry for, what would seem to most of you, as silly questions.
  5. Actually not certain how I did it, since I've had the diff welded I've taken it off road, thrashed doughies and driftin in the wet and dry and it's never given me any grief until now, I was demonstrating my locked diff on a mates lawn when I noticed it, small clunking at first then 2mins later down the road i knew I'd caused my self trouble, so I have two theories, number 1 being the constant abuse slowly f'd it up, or 2 being possibly one wheel was on the grass and the other on the road. Only thing I'm certain of is the bloke who welded the diff for me wasn't lying when he said I wouldn't kill the diff again(of which originally I chewed 4 teeth from doing a simple roll back on mates driveway) It is surprising because I am only running a 4k. Just another thought if worst comes to worst would a BW diff, housing and axles from a KE70 go into my 30? I know they're a bit wider(40mm I think? but please don't quote me on that)but that shouldn't matter should it? Only other option is obtaining a U series housing, diff etc from an old celica (I believe TA22 had same size) and converting from leaf to spring but i guess these are just as hard to come by as a banjo setup, especially here in Perth.
  6. Rolliac the problem is because the axle spline has snapped off inside the diff, and mine being a banjo(comes out from tailshaft side rather than the BW which comes out from other side) they require axles be removed before the diff can be removed, and this part thats still in there is stopping me from removing diff. And thanks Rob I kinda thought that would be the case, think I may have read it somewhere sometime awhile ago but couldn't find where.
  7. As title suggests I've snapped an axle in my KE30, the part of it that fits into diff still remains inside(stopping me from removing my diff :) ) Any suggestions to getting it out(preferably without removing diff housing)? And if too much hassle would I be alright chopping part of the affected axle off so only one wheel spins, but so I can still bolt it back up(have a welded diff)? Or if possible to remove the stuck part of axle, mine being a banjo type, would a borg warner axle fit(as these are much easier to find for me)? Few questions but any suggestions/ experience will be much appreciated. Cheers
  8. Chewed my diff in my ke30 recently and was wondering if I sourced a ke70 diff centre(presuming it is also a U series BW), aswell as axles from a ke70, would the centre fit my housing? And ifso if I shortened the ke70 axles would this be all thats needed to fit the housing or are they larger in diameter aswell as length? Or have the axles got the same amount of splines thus just using the ke30's axles? Reasoning behind this is round here(perth) ke70 parts/wrecks are much more abundant than ke30-55s, and at the moment I just need the corolla on the road asap as I have another f@$ked car sitting on my grass which I can't put in for panelbeating until the rollas fixed(eventually putting in a whole ta22 diff or something similar not needing shortening just waiting for something to pop up) Any advice/corrections much appreciated Cheers.
  9. I knew the ke70 conversion would be almost the same as a ke30 one, but just wasn't certain on the difference as there aren't as many well documented conversions with the 30, as there are the 70(which i must say there are friggin heaps, an understandable reason people would see this post and think "pfft watadikhed" and ignore it) but I'm a newcomer to the modscene, always been wanting to do up a ke since I got rid of my 70(first car) and now having left work few weeks ago, I have the cash, I have the time and I have a nice little stoko 30, just don't really have the know how. What of this could I do myself, or is it all just best left to those who know what they are doing(which here in Perth seems to be quite impossible as no business I've contacted have been keen on such a conversion) End product I'm just looking for a nice street car(everyday driver but with a bit extra power).Putting into consideration my previous vehicle being a v6 vs calais (stock), would i be happy with just a newer 4age 20valve instead of the forced induction of the gze? Leaning more towards the 4age now after speaking with a conversionist  just as long as it has the power to pop a few skids I'll be happy enough if it's alot easier to get in
  10. Thanks heaps Slapper, so what you're saying is a crossmember from an ae71 will fit in a ke30? or I'll have to modify an ae71 crossmember to fit the ke30?
  11. No-one can point me in the direction of getting this professionally converted(In Perth)? From what I've researched most of you's undertook this conversion yourselves but I don't particularly have the know-how to start ripping shit apart, so any advice on who/where/how much I can get this done will be much appreciated. ALSO: there are abundent ke70 projects out there, what is the difference(if any) between undertaking a 4agze conversion on a ke70 in comparison to ke30. Any help much appreciated, Josh.
  12. Picked up a decent lookin registered ke30 after about 2 months searching, stock as they come, not much but a bit of rust (but that comes with buying a 30+ year old car) I've been looking over this site and I'm looking to drop a 4agze or similar 1.6-2.0litre motorwith a 5sp manual Just a few questions I have: Because I won't really be able to complete this feat on my own, any advice on someone who does motor conversion in perth would be greatly appreciated What price am I looking at to- 1.purchase motor 2.parts/labour to change from FWD to RWD 3.labour to fit motor(I've seen engine mounts for sale from a user on here by the name of greenmac for $150 + postage, would it be cheaper for me to supply these for fitting, and will this motor bolt straight in, or will I need to relocate stuff) 4.suitable brakes 5.suitable diff(preferably lsd and something that won't need cutting down) 6.Anything I've missed Basically lookin for a price range, a decent source to obtain from and someone who'd be willing to do such a task in perth Any info or input much appreciated Cheers
