Thirsty?
I have been driving Volvo's (2 & 3 series) most of my adult life, and have a Turbo Saab convert at the moment - I have not found them thirsty at all - especially on the open roads - european cars are made for autobahns which is why they drive so nice out here.
For a daily, can't beat old Swedes, cheap to own, maintain and insure - heaps of features and reliable as.
Good find - and as one poster already pointed out, once you have a 2 series, everything else pails in comparison - especially when you consider how cheap they are to buy as opposed to an old Commodore, falcon, or even Camry etc.
