hey bud you can put a datsun1200 ute diff almost straight in, they have thicker axles and are very strong i put one in my ke20 race car. you can also put on disc rear brakes easily from an old square shaped nissan bluebird trx. its alsothe same stud pattern.

something I'm not exact on but i think that early hilux motors have th same bottom end as the 18-r motor its just the head thats different, I'm currently putting an 18rg motor into my ke30 and it has a front sump off an early model 2wd hilux:)
