ke70_sa Posted May 1, 2008 Report Posted May 1, 2008 hi all. I'm upgrading to the xt130 struts and i wana lower my car pretty much 2 inches all round as its a daily and i don't wana cause too much attention. anybody know precisely what shocks & springs i should get & where. i was looking into 300lb linear lovell springs for the front, but i don't know where the best/cheapest places to pick up ANY of these parts in SA. and for the rear, i don't want it to be stiff as all hell, so i was only thinking of cutting some corona springs and getting shocks to suit...if i cut those corona springs about 2 inches, what shocks would be best? help would be appreciated muchly. cheers guys ps. I'm in brighton area, so lonsdale & places down there are easiest. norths a bit too far to travel Quote
LilSlvrRolla Posted May 3, 2008 Report Posted May 3, 2008 (edited) Hey, Sounds like your in the same boat as me. I've been looking at ST162, ST185 and ST204 Celica front inserts because they have the same outside diameter as the XT130 insert,(I'm hope) the same gland nut and are have a shorter stroke. I'm gonna ring Munroe's 1800 number and get some actual heights compressed and extended before I rush out and get any. But the front ST204 munroe GT ones are $129pair and AW11 MR2 Rear inserts (also fit but there really short) are $209pair (thats at autobarn, I bet theres way better prices out there). I'll be buying KYB if I can, but Munroe is very helpful. For the springs your gonna need the KE70 top spring seat, XT130 is massive and so is the spring. You basicly need a KE70 spring with the bottom wound to suit a XT130 Corona. King's do it in 10 days to whatever spec you want for $260 a pair. I need to look into the springs a bit more. Oh and I hope you have the XT130 knuckle arms(steering arms) with the struts. The KE70 knuckle arms bolt holes are too wide. Oh and thats what I'm planning on doing, for all I know theres a better way, but thats the best I've come up with. Ethan. Edited May 3, 2008 by LilSlvrRolla Quote
derill Posted May 7, 2008 Report Posted May 7, 2008 do the st204/162/185 shocks suit relatively stiff springs? and are you sure the st204 shocks fit? i know the 162 and 185's do. Quote

I've "heard" the ST204's fit, can't confirm it though, if there 43.5mm they should. I was going to fit the ST185 or ST162 shocks with 6 or 6.5Kg springs and see how they went. For the price of them I'm not expecting anything brilliant. Quote
LilSlvrRolla Posted May 8, 2008 Report Posted May 8, 2008 Rang KYB instead, ST185 (KYB No. 365077) Celica inserts 490mm Extended, 346mm Compressed. Cartridge size is 332mm with and OD of 44mm. Apparently has stronger internals than there other Celica inserts, and should suit the fairly stiff springs. $126 each at Burson's. Quote
