ok need some help with my rear drums...

first of all my wheel cylinder did a big exploduss, so drove home replaced wheel cylinder and 2 new brake shoes,

put everything back on exactly the same way it came off, bled the system and went to test the brakes,

and when i put my foot on the brake instead of the shoe being pushed out the way it should be (towards the drum)

it was pushed out towards me (away from the car) this also damaged the brand new wheel cylinder and caused it to leak

everything is how it should be and I'm not missing any pieces

what could cause this?

cheers in advance

First up - what car/drums etc.

I haven't fiddled with corolla drums (will be this saturday though), but have played with plenty others. Usually, there is a little sprung 1/4 turn pin that comes through from the backing plate. This is to hold the shoes to the backing plate, so that when you do what you did the whole assembly doesn't pop out and damage wheel cylinders.

These little pins will have a funny end on them, and you generally need to pull them outwards and turn them to lock them in place.

And, lastly, did you have the drum on there when you tested the brakes? Because if corollas don't have these retainer pins, then they will need the drums in place to stop this from happening. No need to test with the drum off, it won't tell you much

Cheers

ok it was on a ke70 rear drums, the retaining pin was on the shoes, but the shoe still had a bit of play with it, like it was meant to have another clip or something but i looked in the manual and all the parts were there....
