the mrs has the ****s and ****ed if i know why, so i got back outa bed and did a little more work on the motor just now. got the oil pump back on (used the 4a pump, as its my believe the 4a has higher pressure and hte 7a has higher volume, so i said **** it, ill use the 4a), got the cam gears on, rear timing case on, virtually ready to get the timing belt on.

oh, and i can confirm 100%, smallport head on a 7a bottom end, everything factory (factory 7a bottom, factory 4a head) IS AN INTERFERANCE MOTOR. exhaust will spin 360 degrees with piston at TDC, but intake will not, judging by the cam lobe position, id say it only JUST fouls by a matter of 1-2mm, but still WILL NOT TURN.

just trying to figure out a couple things, like which crank timing sprocket to use (7a/4a?) due to the very obvious size difference, which lower timing cover to use, cos the TDC markings are not the same (about 5 degrees out by eye) and which oil pump i SHOULD have used. lol als oanyone know the rod cap bolt torque for a 7a?

anyone know these?

Ok so got all my queries sorted. Massive thanks to brad (levinracer). He has set me straight once again. Ordering my cam gears tommorrow and hopefully get time to order my timing belt too (damn overtime).

Also just spent the arvo sorting out my front door trims.

finally matches the rest of the interior (except seats). I'm getting a new roof lining this weekend and then I'll get it trimmed to match.

Just bought a T2 turbo off a type x 180 SR20 for $150. Pick it up tommorrow. Bargain

Also got dump pipe, intercooler piping, factory intercooler and oil and water feed lines from the same car. $200 for the lot (including turbo). Sp I can start designing my stealthy cooler pipe setup etc then get the real thing made up from the template I make up.

Also I just went to get my timing belt. Got a gates T107 from a Porsche 944 turbo (it's the only turbo 944 listed, uses a 2.5L turbo 4 cyl motor, for future reference, and it's the camshaft belt, not the balance shaft belt listed) $83.90 from autopro.

timing belt and factory 7afe tensioner (no aping so I might have to use my 4a spring), but it's the wrong timing belt??? It's s gates T107?

I looked at the book thing again at autopro just now, and it lists this belt as 117 teeth, the balance shaft as 110 teeth, and the factory 4age belt as 113 teeth, so you would assume this would be the correct belt?

But as I'm writing this I'm counting the teeth of the original 4a belt, and the gates t107, and it seems they have boxed this belt wrong.... And as I suspected , the belt they gave me has 107 teeth, making it NOT a T107, but intact just a 107 tooth belt. Gunna go back tommorrow and order the correct one.

intake A/R .80, exhaust A/R .64.

Getting the dump pipe and few exhaust bits off the 180 too that I might be able to cut up and use somehow.

just picked up another set of 20v tractors, and a dump pipe for my turbo.

gunna finally order my cam gears tonight. also looking into running a coil over plug setup. thinkinh about looking into the 2nzfe? coils ive read are good. also tossing with the idea of v6 commodore coil on plugs, as they have the ignitor built in from my research, and the simple fact i can get my hands on them for free...

any ideas, knowledge or suggestions on this topic?

So things had a minor set back but it's back On track now.

Finally ordered and paid for my adj. Cam gears last night. Bought a set of coils from a gze yeserday too, along with a gze 2 bar map sensor (thanks Casey). Picking up a map gze ecu and matching harness all uncut on sunday.

So motor will be ready to bolt back into the car non turbo next weekend (if my cam gears turn up during the week). Then once it's running and all good I'll get the car over the pits and get it regoed again then once I've got a turbo manifold and xr6 intercooler I'll pull it back out, and turbo it. It's so close now I can taste the boost.

No it's not just a basic car with bags.

Has a full leather and suede ritrim in red with custom design roof lining, remoulded door trims for two sets of splits each door, custom moulded suede parcel shelf for another set of splits. All done by brads custom trim (Newcastle equivelant of say 2sus or queen st).

18" dolce rims, lays door sill front and rear. Plus it's a rare factory manual with factory electric sunroof. Most either got one or the other. I got both. Plus other **** like hid angle eye single piece headlights, and carbon look tailights. Moon face dash cluster etc etc.

My cam gears arrived today. Look pretty good for $135 for the pair.

gunna go fit them now and check all my timing then I can Start putting the motor back in.

So it's all pretty good so far. Pulled the 4a oil pump and canker pulley off, put the 7a items back on. Lined up TDC on cylinder 1 with them. Then pulled them back off and put my 4a pump and crank pulley back on, marked where TDC is on the 4a gear.

Then put the adjustable cam gears on in 0 degrees. I put my brand new 7a tensioner on, but I don't have a 7a spring, and the 4a doesn't have enought tension in it (being too long). So I just dodgeyd it up for now, by pushing the tensioner as tight as possible with the belt on and tightened it.

Wound the motor over 2 times to bring it back to tdc, and fou d the cams were a few degrees out. I adjusted the cams to approx 4 degrees advanced. Tightened them all up and wound the motor over several times and everything turned out spot on again.

So all I gotta do now is find a 7a spring for the tensioner, plus I gotta pull the oil pump off again to seal it finally, put it all back together and then bobs your homaphradite aunty. It will be ready to start putting in.

If don't get a spring tommorrow, I'll just adjust it up tight and tighten the tensioner with no spring. I'll bring home my torque wrench tommorrow from work, tighten my rod bolts, and start putting the other **** on my motor. Starting put it back in afternoons this week.

Also yeah, the cam gears are eBay items. I looked at hks and fidanza etc for 400 etc, and they were all billet cam gears, etc etc. So I figured since I'm not making massive power why bother with the "brand names". They appear to be a pretty good quality and for $130 for the pair to my door why not?

Seller name is maxspeedingrods or something like that.

Also I wanna buy an ae71. So when this is rego'd and finished to my liking, and my accord is on the road I'm going to sell this, possibly keeping the motor for the ae, or maybe build a new 7agzte. Lol

Just finished some more work on the motor.

Pulled the timing gear backnoff, resealed the oil pump, fitted all the timing gear again, tripple checking the cam timing. Torques the rods up, fitted oil pickup, sump etc. Fitted the cam covers, valley plate, sparkies SMS plug leads, dizzy, inlet manifold all on. Extractors half on. Every last nut and bolt and washer cleaned.

Tommorrow if in home I'll pull the xtractors off and redrill the outter holes. Also might pull the intake manifold off and port match it myself. Put the water pump on, water outlets and fittings then it's just the ac, power steering and it's ready to get the box on and back in the car. RAD.

Just spent a few more hours swapping everything over and getting it ready to bolt in. Got all the remaining water outlets swapped over, the water pipes, alternator bracket, oil pressure sender, etc.

As always everything was cleaned spotless. However I struck a problem with the air con compressor bracket. There was no chance in **** it was gunna fit with the sump. It's gunna foul chronicly. But when I was kicking parts in my fury, I found that in the other smallport motor I stripped, the bracket was completely different.

The big one that won't fit that I got off the motor that was in my car

855f3e13.jpg

The one that was on the other 4age, it has the slide for the belt tensioner, but no provisions for the ac compressor.

any ideas? Think I'm gunna just go get a shorter belt and get rid of the ac all together.

also just a note, the 4a head has on external oil return pipe into the bottom of the block just above the sump. The 7a block doesn't have this. So i think I'm going to just block ot off at the head but still figuring that one out.
