Hey guys,

I'm having a weird problem with my 87' corolla and if you could offer some advice that would be great.

The corolla runs a 4ac, which due to rough running recently got a carb rebuild. I am now tuning it and the idle was a bit erratic. So I disconnected the EGR system for now and that seems to have fixed the problem.

When I went to set the timing the engine revs would jump incredibly when approaching the recommended 5 degrees, even after backing the idle speed, and fast idle speed right off.

There is no troubleshooting description of this in the manual and I am quite stumped. :)

Okay, I had a look and thats no problem.

Though I forgot to mention one other symptom - when I try and rev the engine the revs rise and stay at a point. Even if the accelerator is lifted off completely.

I'm at the point where I'm thinking of just either letting a mechanic have it, or just buying a newer, better car! Hehe.
