TOM Posted October 16, 2010 Report Posted October 16, 2010 (edited) Hi guys, Having some issues with my steering column on the 38 - I noticed it was wobbling a bit and found the cause, but can't work out the solution. You can see the gap which is creating the wobble. You can also see the exposed thread of what looks like a bolt, there is one on each side. The end of both the bolts look like this. Have the ends snapped off or is this how they are? There is heapes of movement but I can't work out how to actually seperate these two pieces or tighten them up... Anyway my question is can this section be taken off the steering column and replaced, or do I need to get a whole new column? Any help greatly appreciated at this stage - I'm stumped... :hmm: Edited October 16, 2010 by TOM Quote
Sadi Posted October 16, 2010 Report Posted October 16, 2010 Looks like your bolts have snapped. On me 36 one bolt is either longer or different thickness to the other from memory. You could try and drill out the bolts and replace them, just re-thread the holes and replace the bolts. I don't think you would have to pull the column out. I'm pretty sure the ignition barrel housing is the same across all 30-55 models, so can't see why it would be much trouble getting a replacement if needed. Quote
Sadi Posted October 16, 2010 Report Posted October 16, 2010 On second thoughts maybe the previous owner has used security bolts in which the heads snap off when tightened, making it harder to remove the bolts. Quote

Two security bolts with heads that snap off when tightened, got some needle nose pliers and gently unthreaded them. Looks like they were factory though... I'll cut some svrewdriver heads into them and put 'em back in! Thanks again, problem solved Quote
