  1. A Cheap alternative is that you can use is that adhesive tape you use to repair gutters. Its pretty much the same thing, an aluminium tape with a tar adhesive backing. And is alot cheaper then the other stuff.
  2. Saw a pink 180SX driving through Hornsby a while back with plates BMYBOY. Had a pretty good looking chick behind the wheel. Too bad my rolla wasnt quick enough to keep up to get a better look.
  3. Hey everyone. I have a ke36 rolla with a screaming rear wheel bearing. I cannot hear my stereo over the noise when traveling on the freeway. Are they easy to change?

  6. I was a mechanic for 5 years, it was shit work, shit pay, and a shit job. Just started another apprenticeship in telecommunications, and as a 1st year, I was on more money than a fully qualified mechanic, along with easy work in air conditioning, RDO's, and I never have to deal with whinging customers ever again.
  7. This is one of my favourite games to play when on my way home from work, especially through school zones. When they get right up my arse I will sit next to the car in the other lane. I'll speed up a bit so they get behind me, then slow down, they change lanes again but still can't get through. I'm in no rush to get home, and I'm sure your not going to miss anything by getting where ever you're going a minute or 2 later.

  9. I got a bit of bubling in the radiator. Checked with a mates co2 detector, its only a small leak. Might just drive it round for a while, see how it goes. If it gets worse then I'll do something about it.
  10. So I've got a blown head gasket. I've heard there are some additives which can repair a blown head gasket without taking off the head. Anyone used or can recommend any of these additives? I'de rather try a cheap fix before spending big money on repairing it.
  11. Yeah I posted this on both those and on 4gtuner.com. Just thought I'd do it here as well, as I use this forum the most for my rolla. Thanks for the help, I think the quickest way to get her back on the road is to just put in another 4g93. I just have big dreams about making it an evo coupe. Cheers
  12. So last night my missus was driving home along the M2 and suddenly realised that the temp gauge was in the red. So instead of stopping she decided that she'll just get me to look at it when she gets home. Continuing along the M2, then onto the M7 all of a sudden the engine dies and she has to pull over. After calling me in hysterics I go out to where she has broken down, pop the bonnet and find there is no water what so ever in it. Take off the oil cap and am punched in the face with the smell of burnt oil. Fortuneatly there was no water in the oil so I'm pretty sure that the head gasket held up, but had to get a tow back to mine. Pretty sure the engine has siezed. Now the big question. Do I replace motor with another 4g93 or take advantage of it and upgrade to a 4g63. Its a 2002 CE2 Lancer coupe. I kinda wanna do it as cheap as I can and as quickly as possible because I don't really wanna drive to Lane Cove from Kellyville Ridge every day to drop her off and pick her up. So will a 4g63 bolt straight in? Or should I just get another 4g93? Also can anyone recommend any good places in North West Sydney to start looking for a new engine? All help is much appreciated.
  13. Back in my mechanic days one of the 2nd years brought in his car due to a blown head gasket. He would work on it after hours each day. When he finally had it all back together we had put a couple of squirts (almost filled up the cylinders) of auto fluid down each spark plug hole, wired up his brake lights to the horn, and put a couple of big cable ties around his drive shaft. When he evetually started it up the workshop was full of smoke in about 2 mins. He was totally freaking out. Thought he had done something wrong and f@$ked his engine. Then every time he put his foot on the brake the horn would go off. And as he drove off the ticking started with the cable ties slapping underneath the car. He didnt stay around for much longer after that.

  15. On second thoughts maybe the previous owner has used security bolts in which the heads snap off when tightened, making it harder to remove the bolts.
  16. Looks like your bolts have snapped. On me 36 one bolt is either longer or different thickness to the other from memory. You could try and drill out the bolts and replace them, just re-thread the holes and replace the bolts. I don't think you would have to pull the column out. I'm pretty sure the ignition barrel housing is the same across all 30-55 models, so can't see why it would be much trouble getting a replacement if needed.

  18. Cheers all for the info. Cleared up alot and will be making this conversion alot easier. I had a feeling that it was just the strut insert which they had listed. Looks like I'll have to go and do some actual leg work. If I'm replacing xt130 struts with mine I'm assuming I would be getting the sleeve kit that fits those struts. Having more control over adjusting the height is one of the main reasons of getting the sleeve kit. I'm not a big fan of cutting springs. Looking at getting XT130 struts because of alot of good feedback from what I have read about this conversion, and alot of good resources available about this conversion. I'm looking at upgrading the suspension and brakes for a future engine conversion. Will be using the car mainly as a weekend warrior, and the odd track day. Sikke20 your setup is pretty much exactly what I'm looking at doing. Which brake setup did you use on your's?
  19. Has anyone used these on the xt130 struts before? I want to upgrade my suspension and brakes in my Ke36 wagon and after reading all the threads on here am pretty confident in what I'm going to do. Just want to clear a few last things up before I start. 1. Would it be better to get some 2nd had struts from the wreckers, or to get new ones from pedders. I'd prefer new ones, basically because they are new, and I'm too busy to be driving round to all the wreckers searching for 2nd hand ones. Had a look on their webiste and you can look up the part number from there. Just wanna make sure that its the front shocks that I want. (Front Shocks: 8728 8728 Comfort Gas Cartridge, 9728 GSR9728 GSR Cartridge) 2. Instead of welding on the lower spring seat onto the xt130 strut, I can use these HSD coilover sleeves right? Anyone used these before? Any thoughts on this setup over using the Ke36 lower spring seat? 3. Thinking of using these camber tops instead of the Ke36 tops, so that I can adjust the camber.
