koolio1234 Posted December 16, 2010 Report Posted December 16, 2010 I want to fit Air conditioning into my 1994 Corolla Seca AE101. It has the 4age 20 valve silvertop engine in it at the moment and the air compressor is ALREADY attached but it requires everything else as it didn't come standard with AC. 1. Does anyone know what AC kits from what model corollas would fit to the compressor already attached to the silvertop engine? Are they interchangeable? 2. Can you recommend a wrecker for me to call that might have this part or deals with corollas? 3. Would it be hard to fit myself? The compressor is already attached to the engine so I imagine the dashboard needs removal to install the buttons/interface and the radiator would need to be removed to install the condensor, piping, etc. Anyone done this before? RedKE30 Posted December 16, 2010 Report Posted December 16, 2010 (edited) Just get a kit from an AE101 with a 20v in it. No messing around then. People who buy halfcuts would usually just bin stuff like that, so you shouldn't have too much trouble finding it. Ring a place that sells halfcuts aswell as they quite possibly will be able to help you out. Where are you located? I bought a AE101 20V silvertop half cut from Ichiban imports in NSW. Maybe give them a call? You should be able to install it with the radiator in, but don't quote me on that. Some or all of the dash will have to come out. Obviously you will need someone with an A/C license to gas it for you. If you're in Melbourne I can recommend a couple of wreckers. Edited December 16, 2010 by RedKE30 Quote

I got a quote today from a wreckers for a full AC kit for a AE101 but without the air compressor (I already have one attached to the engine). They quoted $250 for it, is that reasonable?? Would it be much trouble fitting it myself? The engine won't have to come out as the compressor is attached already. I think I would need to remove the radiator to hook up the condenser and piping, and run the piping through the firewall into the dash. The dash will have to come out, would this be tough to do? Don't have much experience working on cars but I have some know-how and I figure that I could learn along the way and ask questions on here, everyone seems pretty helpful :) Quote
RedKE30 Posted December 16, 2010 Report Posted December 16, 2010 I haven't played around much with aircons but I'm working towards getting my trainee A/C license so I can start working on them more. $250 doesnt sound that bad. I've watched guys fit aircon kits at work and I've never seen or heard of people pulling motors out to fit A/C's, but I suppose if it was that hard it would have been factory fitted, not dealer fitted. I probably can't help you much more than that but feel free to ask any questions and I or someone else will try to answer them. Cheers, Sian Quote

I might give it a go this weekend. I'm gonna pick up the kit tomorrow and once fitted I'll take it to get gassed at my mechanics. Cheers. Quote
