Gearbox Swap

hi all,

i have an 85 ae82 4-ac 5speed which has a noisy gearbox. is a 90 4-age box the same?, as i can get one for $50.

Should still be a c series gearbox, shafts may be a little different depending on which one but it all should bolt up, same splines ect..

Correct :y: All C-series gearboxes will bolt up to an A series block, however driveshafts vary in length between some models (as CaseyG said) so is worth grabbing a tape measure & checking. Failing that, grab the shafts & slap them in as well!

Some shafts have a circlip and others have a bolt on flange, i think in both cases they are interchangeable though.

 

I think some camrys (sv21) share the same inner and outer in some cases but are a smidge longer in the center from memory. I'd have to double check this.
