Jason Posted November 15, 2005 Report Posted November 15, 2005 (edited) Ok its that time again when i can work on my car :lolcry: the first thing on the list is the motor (4age) first thing is, what should i get done to it? Its got small sracthes in the bore (carnt feel them) so i assume ill will need a hone? Ive been told i may need new pistons depending on how big its rebored to? What else should i get? I'm trying to keep it resonlably cheap. What parts should i get ballenced? Is there anything i should really consider getting? Thanks Jason Edited November 15, 2005 by Jason Quote
Super Jamie Posted November 15, 2005 Report Posted November 15, 2005 Its got small sracthes in the bore (carnt feel them) so i assume ill will need a hone? those are called hone marks. they are good. if they weren't there, you would say the bores are glazed, and that's bad. any engine that's got new rings will need to be honed, so the new rings bed in. unless your bottom end has done like 400,000km+ you should just be able to get away with original pistons and new rings What else should i get? how much do you want to spend? i'd get the head shaved for a bit more compression if you're going n/a, get 3 or 5 angle valve seats, tulip cut valves, have the inlet and exhaust ports and bowls tidied up, head port matched to the manifold. if you're planning big boost, you can have the rods and crank treated for toughness with a surface process like linishing or a heat process like cryotuffing. lighten the flywheel. knife edge the crank if you like (not ideal for a street engine i reckon). new cams with big lift would be nice, then you'll need a threaded shim kit to keep the buckets on the valves which all costs money (and alot of it) all depends on how much power you want to make, and how much money you have to spend. if not now, it's not like you can't pull the engine apart and do stuff again later. i would sugest starting out small, and keeping the supercharger off most of the time. it's your first car, and you're on your Ls. you wouldn't even be allowed to register this thing in your name in nsw with the blower on it What parts should i get ballenced? anything that moves. rotationally - crank, flywheel, pulley. weight-wise - pistons, rods Is there anything i should really consider getting? a spot in an advanced driver training course :lolcry: i could do with the same, perhaps we can get a rollaclub day going :( Quote

Reading into some of the valve thing you mention, repliy some more when i got some more info :lolcry: ATM I'm just thinking of maily ballencing and hone. Not really in much hurry for more power (cams ect) which i don't really have the money for any way Thanks J Edited November 15, 2005 by Jason Quote
Super Jamie Posted November 15, 2005 Report Posted November 15, 2005 oh. that's not cool. hmm, depends on how deep they are really, an engine reconditioner would be able to give you an answer. new oversize pistons for a 4age would probably blow your budget angled valve seats and having the valves modified for flow would be a good idea, next step after that is having the head ported. but if not now, you can always do it later :lolcry: another thing would be to polish the combustion chambers and exhaust ports, but not the inlet ports Quote
Jason Posted November 15, 2005 Author Report Posted November 15, 2005 (edited) yeah new pistons would rape my wallet hard, but i can sell my old ones ( in perfact condition) if worst comes to worse. Yep ive already called him but i got a bad line, so I'm gona call him again soon. Ive been lookgin round the net for some street motors and ive got an idear of what i want now Bore/Hone Acid Dip Clean the casting marks in the head Balence all components Maybe new pistons if needing... Bearing kit Yep I'm preparing for the rape of my wallet without any lube :lolcry: Edited November 15, 2005 by Jason Quote
Super Jamie Posted November 15, 2005 Report Posted November 15, 2005 don't forget gaskets! genuine toyota gasket kit and vrs kit will set you back a clean 400 bucks on its own, that was what lucky's was, and he gets trade price Quote
Jason Posted November 23, 2005 Author Report Posted November 23, 2005 Was about to ring, then it though about something. Instead of using the 100kw block, why not just uses my other gze block. However it doesn't have any oil squirters in it... But is it possible to get them put in. Because the gze block is immaculate. Quote
