I've seen some bad shit happen inside the nats late at night...but I thought Nick meant he wouldn't take his car around the area outside the nats? Which is why I asked.

 

Althought ALOT of cars get stolen from the carparks during the nats....but they are usually done up cars.

If people need somewhere to stay i life about 20 mins from the NATS and I have a caravan which will sleep three and a 10 man tent, we could have a PJ party LOL. just let me know closer to the date..

Exactly...And the stupid thing is...it's 4 days a year, not like it's a regular weekend thing or something. Surely the whinging f@$kers can put up with something for 4 days that brings so so much money and so so many people into Canberra.

 

Every hotel in Canberra is booked solid for the whole of the nats. The Shell servo on the nats fence does as much trading over those 4 days as it does for the rest of the year.

 

It is a good event for Canberra to have, and people want it stopped.

 

In all 19 years of the nats, there has never been an incident worthy of shutting it down....It pisses me off.

Rally has not been killed here yet, but then a lot of public servants and a local member have rally cars :lmao:

i think the only reason we still have the rally is because its out in the scrubb, but a few people are trying to shut it down cos they want to bush walk, thank god someone has a little sence and has told them to sod off

I heard last year every car got road worthied by the police on the way out. even the show cars that where on trailers.

just about every "HOT" car that came to town got checked, even the ones TOWING the cars on trailers(and the trailers too), but the piggers can't check the cars on the trailers.. my mate is a towie and he picked up more then a few "pink stickered" cars.

I don't see how they would legally be allowed to do a rego check on a car on a trailer...What if it is a drag car?

they where making the fellows unload the car trailers to inspect the trailer, then giving a fine for driving unregestered when the cars where fired up to drive back on the trailers

yes they can defect a registered car on a trailer cos if its registered it needs to be road worthy

they can't do anything to an unregistered car like a drag car, the grey area comes in on interstate cars, ACT can't have an exposed roll cage, QLD you can (i think), my ute is registered in ACT, WA police would shoot me if they caught me driving it (150% increase in cubes)

It's a pain in the ass....Fair enough that the cops pick on the people who are outside the grounds doing stupid shit...but for the sensible people who are trailering they're beloved done up cars...They should be left alone.

First time I have heard of them being able to check a car on a trailer or even asking them to remove it. Fact is if they can do this then they can do this to a car on a tow truck. Car trailers are about to tow race/show/broken down/defected car around so this would not be true. As for removing a car to check the trailer, I would also say no to this as 100% of the trailer can be checked even loaded, this would be like asking a truck driver to unload his semi so they can do a road side.........yeah right. A cop does not have the right to ask you or make you unload unless he has a warrent to make you do it or you are overloaded. As for the RTA guys asking, they would'nt try as most of the guys that go to the nats are involved with the motor or transport industy and one call to the TWU and look out RTA. We have been stopped by RTA road side in ACT and NSW with a damaged (and unroad worthy rally car on a trailer due to damage)rally car on the trailer and they checked the trailer over no probs and said nothing about the car at all.

 

Fact would be that 80% of the guys that come to the nats have the trailer over loaded, eg: XY Falcon on a trailer with a 2000kg GVM being towed by a XD Falcon = RTA and COP magnet.......plus BIG fines

See that's just stupid...and the sort of thing that makes the drunken fools attack the police....As far as I am concerned...if someone does the right thing and trailers their car to the nats, the cops should leave them alone.
