  1. Kudos for the engineering. I can;t wait to hear how it runs.
  2. ROFLMAO. Love it. On a more serious note. Does anyone know where, or have available some CAD drawings of an existing twincam head? I have sourced some software to make relevant templates and have them made up, but I don't have a base design. Any help/direction appreciated.
  3. Hi Philbey Water and Oil line up, just need a slight reshape. Cam and combustion (imagine you mean cc head and clearancing pistons rather than shape and squish)...always expected to have to do that. Also need to update oil pump to cope with likely more revs. Which raises another question, anyone know how realiable the std crank is? What kind of revs can it handle?
  4. No. You got it wrong. In the first instance I just want to match the head of a different engine to the 3K. As a side project I am looking to make something more intricate like a whole block or head...but that is a bit more long term.
  5. I'd love the measurements. Vernier calipers will be fine. After thinking about it, the idea of making the head seems equally viable. Catch 22 - make the head and you have lots of machining and intricate shapes; or make the block and you need a crankshaft, and it is the crankshaft that kind of scares me if I am aiming for serious revs...might need to work out which ones is cheaper and try that first.
  6. I considered making the head, but it is far easier to make a block to fit a motorcycle cylinder and head. I haven't ruled out that idea, but it is lots of $$ and probably a long term thing that I would slot into a lotus 7 replica or something like that. Philbey I have read the OS Giken twincam L series before. There was a guy who had one in Sydney a few years ago too and he was rebuilding it...LZ 20 I believe they are called (couldn't bother googling). And if I crack it I will share. I have helped a few people over the years with stuff I tried that worked...nobody ever sees all of the failures though :)
  7. Why? Well my last project involved engineering IRS into a Datsun ute. New front suspension and many body mods. I'd love something relatively simple to work and believe me, compared to my other ideas this is as simple as it gets.
  8. Yes, motorcycle head. I have found something I am pretty sure lines up in all of the critical areas...but that is from reviewing all of the forums in the world and images. Before I make the next step (getting real pieces) I want to be reasonably confident of the solution.
  9. Anyone know the bore spacing or bore pitch of a 3k or 4k engine - prefer 3k. I don't have anything to check against. From my rough estimates it looks 81mm. Anyone have a gasket laying around? I'd even be happy to know the outside to outside measurement for all 4 bores. I am at the early stages of a crazy idea someone would have already had, but I intend to pursue it and reveal if it works out. Currently things look good :)
  10. Hi all I have looked for answers to this type of question, but any links welcome. I have just got a KE30 2 door and the steering is very heavy off centre. Everything is std and original (good condition). What can I do to improve the steering feel? Is this common? I am looking for something that will inspire confidence. Please note I will get a wheel alignment, but I suspect this isn't the issue as it tracks straight, doesn't wobble, has good tyres, etc. Thanks for looking and helping. Micksute
  11. Thanks mate. I have a lot of homework to do. Sorry for the dumb questions. I am not keen to cut up this car if I can help it, but I specifically bought it for a 2L/2L turbo conversion (weights more than a 1200 coupe)...I will need to look at other options for engines and do the numbers. Regards Michael
  12. Maybe that should have been my first question. Are manual and auto tunnels different? Anyone know. In Datsuns they are, and I ass_u_med that would be the same for a Rolla.
  13. Thanks for replying, the both of you. I am a bit of noob to Toyotas, but my Datsun is crazy (grafted IRS from S13 silvia, full baremetal candy respray, etc), so I know about the modding the shifter in the tunnel. However I specifically bought an auto to minimise the amount of work I needed to do this time around as I don't have the time or energy to go all out on another car...the conflict however is that I don't like a lot modern cars. So, was either of your cars' an auto? If so, would you be able to show/take a pic of the tunnel clearance around the firewall for me? I looked and couldn't find this type of shot. Not sure what I could do in return of the favour, but if you think of something non-sexual just ask. Michael
  14. Hi All I have searched to try and find this, so please bear that in mind. I am considering the different engine conversion options at the moment and I wanted to know if any had a picture of the tunnel clearance of an SR20 gearbox in an auto tunnel of a KE30/KE55? I have a CA18DET datsun ute, but specifically bought a KE30 2 door to do a 2L turbo conversion. In the ute, the gearbox just clears the tunnel. I have seen many pics of tunnels and SR20 conversions, some look really close to touching the tunnel, but none tell what the car started as. Any help appreciate. Michael
