  1. are the ae92 manual gearboxes on the back of 4a-e engines the same for the ae101 with either the 4 or 7a-fe engine, as i have a manual ae92 and a auto ae101 and want to put the manual in the auto? also, are the pedal box, gear shifter and drive shafts interchangeable thanks eric
  2. hi all, i have an 1.6injected ae82 manual with a crap body and have been given an ae101 1.6injected auto. will the 5sp manual from the 4ae engine fit the 4a-fe and all the pedals, gear lingages, drive shafts etc? also, are brake and suspension components the same cheers eric
  3. my ae94 1.6i sprays out heaps of condensation, leaving a black sooty puddle. is this anything to be concerned about? cheers eric
  4. looks like a new one is required, short of welding a washer on the end to hold the knuckle on. thanks again for your help trev
  5. thanks for your advice trev. it appears this drive shaft has been a replacement at some stage, and there is no sign of any circlip. as mentioned, the end of the shaft is ground off, so no chance off fitting a circlip now. cheers eric
  6. got the shaft out, and found out the 3bearing knuckle inside the bell almost slid off the spline. it appears to have been gripping by only about 5mm then let go. is the knuckle supposed to be pressed on never to move again? i was able to lightly tap it on and off. also, the knuckle spline does not go all the way on on side, does this side go on first over the shaft?
  7. the cv joint has broken at the gearbox end, so no drive at all. you can see the bell turn when trying to drive. have had another crack at trying to undo the nut no success, keep bending the bar, so maybe some heat now.thanks for your advice
  8. help, struggling to undo the righthand drive shaft nut. will not budge.i take it is an anticlockwise removal. also, once undone, will the drive shaft just pull out from both ends? any help greatly appreciated eric
  9. i have a 95 ae101 1.6l auto and am considering an auto to manual conversion. i guess the best option is to get a donor car, but am curious to know if there are any newer or older models that can do the job. gear selector and pedal box being the big ones. the car(ex. grandmother) has only about 120k, so has a bit of life left to justify the conversion cheers eric
  10. birkdale. picked one up, but realised later it has a second starter motor bulge in the bellhousing. still fits but interferes with cooling plumbing. it works but bites going up from 4th to 5th, so will probably look for another one other than the starter motor position, they do look all same across the fwd corolla range, certainly well into the nineties anyway.
  11. hi all, i have an ae82 with a 4a engine. the 5sp gearbox is stuffed, so wondering if other year/engine models will fit. there are a few for sale on ebay for diferent models, and they look almost identical cheers eric
  12. hi all, i have an 85 ae82 4-ac 5speed which has a noisy gearbox. is a 90 4-age box the same?, as i can get one for $50. cheers eric
  13. thanks sam,i'll look at that when i get back to the car in a week. cheers eric
  14. hi all, i have a 1.6 ae101 auto, and the problem is it shifts into second way too soon after take off. if you flatten it, it will hold, but in traffic it changes so fast, your left with no power to accelerate as the rpm is too low, once again unless you floor it to kick down. could this be some sort of adjustment problem, or is it a computer mapping issue? appreciate any help cheers eric
