  1. Have found a twin cam hatch going cheap in good condition. I'm more specifically looking at the engine here ,ore than anything. The car in question is a ae82 hatch probably 88 build date is february 87 It has a 16valve 4 age in it I have the engine number if it helps but wondering what type of block it has. I forgot about checking the fins on the block when I was there so not sure if it has 3 or 7 I do have the engine number if its any help. It has a blue valve cover on it I'm wondering if it would have oil squirters or not in the block?
  2. I do realise I have much to learn thats why I am looking at pages, wikis and websites alot of the time and asking what seems to most of you like stupid questions as I am researching and gaining information. my bad was meant to read 4age not 5age though this morning have found a halfcut going what I am calling not to badly priced its a ae101 with a supercharged 20 valve 4age in it so am quite tempted to buy it and do the swap. some things the fella who has the half cut did bring up though is the difference in flywheel sizing me having a single cam apparently have a 8inch flywheel the supercharged twincam has a 9inch I figure this isnt much of an issue as worst case scenario I should be able to use the gearbox and all from the other vehicle. I could possibly use the front brakes from the 101 with the hubs being compatible though the struts are different.
  3. well I thought it was a popular car too but currently trying to source a 5age in my local area seems quite an effort everywhere I ask they pretty much tell me no hope of finding one. as for twin cams having discs on the rear I not overly sure about this as I am still yet to find an ae82 with rear discs and whenever I mention I want to change to discs people tell me there isnt any point the drums are adequate and yes they may be adequate but don't overly look good behind a set of mags
  4. Just wondering whats compatible with an ae82 as far as mechanicals go (engines, brakes, transmission, suspension, hubs). It seems to be getting quite hard to find parts for an ae82 or maybe I'm just looking in the wrong places but was wondering if things could be upgraded to slightly later models would make things a little easier. Currently I am thinking ae92 have heard alot of it may be easy bolt on difference also maybe toyota starlet.
  5. so the bottom line is turning a front wheel drive wehicle into an all wheel drive isnt going to happen without alot of custom fabrication. Now if I had a rear wheel drive corolla it would be slightly more possible but still alot of work this is what I actually believed to be true in the first insance but I was finding info to put doubt in my mind and my mate was adding to that doubt saying it can't be that hard look how many all wheel drive vehicles toyota put out something has to almost bolt straight into an ae82
  6. well if you check the wiki on tercel it says Tercel was the first front-wheel drive vehicle ever produced by the automaker, establishing a layout and frame that was later used in popular Toyota models. For example, Toyota Corolla E80's frame is almost similar to AL20 Tercel's frame. Also, Toyota designed a new A engine for Tercel, attempting to achieve good fuel economy, and performance as well as low emissions at the same time. Choice of body styles increased as well, with the addition of a four-door sedan. so my theory atm is if you had an e80 series corolla which is an ae82 and then if I got a al20 series tercel yes the frames aren't identical but they are similiar so you shouldnt have to much to custom fabricate. Currently it is just an idea that I am looking into and I don't have a tercel but the idea of an all wheel drive corolla is sounding interesting.
  7. well acording to this there not alot of difference between the two http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_Tercel http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_Corolla_(E80) still not seeing why it would be so hard to do after reading this
  8. I just thouht it may have been possible as the tercel was built from a corolla floorpan all parts came from the toyota range and the only thing that was specifically built for it was the transfer case thats what my research dug up this afternoon so thought I would ask how possible it would be if you had both a complete tercel and a complete ae82 sitting there figured there couldnt be to much custom fabrication required. But was just an idea I havent decided to go ahead with it yet and kindof just looking atm
  9. My mates just given me the idea of putting a tercel driveline into my corolla and I'm thinking well all wheel drive could be abit of fun. Have learnt that the tercel shares many parts with the corolla and is quite possibly a simple bolt in job. Just looking for abit of info and advice and whatnot from other forum members.
  10. Note to self for future reference or anyone else that requires it OK so got it all sorted now dizzy rotates anti clockwise and number 1 is drivers side firing order 1342
  11. JUst had a slight stupid moment when was changing my leads and plugs and removed all leads at once have now replaced the leads and plugs but not sure in what order to hook them up to the distributor am trying to google the answer and work it out but not having much luck right now. Have a ae82 with a 4a engine
  12. Well that was probably more of where I was looking for now is transfering a direct swap motor over and deck it out later
  13. OK well as I am doing this on a budget kind of and don't have heaps of cash to splash about a turbo isnt on the top of my list of things to add but it is something I would like to leave open in the future. Also its probably going to be alot easier and cheaper to find an age than an agze so that is the way I am going to go for now I think (though I'm still in the research and planning stages so this could change) But I do guess that also shows me that its quite doable to add a turbo to an age or an agze but it gonna cost a few coin
  14. Have been going through those links and doing more research myself and kind of know the direction I want to head in. I got my notebook and pencils out and scribbling notes everywhere getting part quotes from places and more ideas. I do plan on starting my own ride thread at some stage thinking maybe doing it sooner than later to keep all my research ideas and ideas and advice from other forum members all in one place. Everyone is saying ignore the 4agze which I also would agree on until I heard some info today. The way I see it and please feel free to inform me from fact and fiction. The 4agze is the same as the 4age except its a supercharge engine, ok I don't want a supercharged engine (there for muscle cars not imports imports use turbo) so that eliminates that. I want a turbocharger (my theory is if you doing an import no point unless you got turbo. Today I heard that the 4agze came stock from factory my research hasn't produced any of this information though my r esearch is only about a week old, also was told if you got the 4agze you could just remove the supercharger and bolt a turbo straight on.
  15. Yes currently my engine is from my understanding just a 4A has a carby and whatnot. I have just changed the suspension not upgraded or anything yet but am slowly looking into that. OK so a lovely bit of info there thanks guys figured thats my best option to after a sleepless night and many hours of research Engine 4age(I'm assuming thats the twin cam 16 valve option) though someone did mention a 4agze (whats the difference) As for rear brakes guess they not needed just thought possibly need to upgrade them with an engine change? But if I find a donor with the 4age it comes with bigger front ventilated discs too and all of this is from other ae82 models so should all pass roadworthy and be legal quite easy. I am understanding this correctly aren't I.
