just had a racq guy come around, he filed the points and it's running, hopefully fixed the idle problem too. Guess the wet and dry sandpaper wasnt enough on the points yesterday I'll go take it for a tester now

I had a previous thread about my car losing power and stalling, but now it's not even starting. Teddy was here and said it's not sparking. I am really desperate to have someone look at it. Is there anyone near Chermside able to come have give me a hand? It's my first car and I've got no experience. I can pay for fuel and your time. If I don't have this car running, I'll lose my job before I get a chance to even start it.
-
It's auto fluid is fine, sometimes it starts up first go like it used to, sometimes it needs a little bit though. not driving it much cause i'm too scared about it dying. Teddy said he'd give it a look, but he's busy. Anyone else know someone on the northside that could give a hand? I know point checking and timing is basic stuff, but i'd still refer to see it in person first
-
well it never used to have any of these problems, then all of a sudden, bam, starting problems, idle problems. over time gradually i understand, but so sudden? all is good though, Teddy is conveniently 5 minutes away and is going to have a look for me. and altezza, you should be an admin or mod or something, cause i from everything i've ever posted on here, you've always been first on it, with tonnes of detail. You're a good bloke. cheers

well I'm glad the oil thing isnt a problem. normally the idle sounds ok, maybe a little high if anything. but this morning it might have jsut been really cold, i havent had it for a winter yet. cause i drove it for 45 seconds up the road just then and it's idle held, no stalling.
-
yeh, he adjusted the idle and mixture i think and it was good for a day, but it's stalling again when it starts idling, keeping the choke on helps. but it' really freaking me out. I'll give someone a six pack and fuel money if they can come check it out for me. i only have 2 weeks until i start work. also, really embarrassing question, but i just have no experience. Is there meant to me oil under the oil cap? the dip-stick says full but under the cap i can jsut see engine parts.....

Thanks guys, I get so many problems with this car. I'll give a look at those things tomorrow, i found someone on here had a really similar problem and i think it turned out to be the alternator. i've got medicine_man coming over tomorrow to install central locking and an alarm, i'm sure we'll figure it out thank again

ʞ©$ɟ guys, today at the lights my ke55 just didnt have enough power and stalled. it's an auto, never had any problems with this before and suddenly it's just turning off when my foot isnt on the throttle. anything i should check or do? i really need this cr for work? or anyone around the northern suburbs of brisbane able to have a look for me? cheers
-
i don't use the choke at all, just turn the key with about a third of the throttle and it starts in about 1.5 seconds. tried it earlier today with no throttle and no choke, took about 2.5. I'm pretty sure the points and all are good at the moment, so yeh, i'll close the case with it being flooded. now i can stop worrying. thanks
-
@Altezza, that video has made it seem a lot less scary, i'll give it a shot if my car gives me another scare. cheers for the video and help and @jono, It only didnt start that one morning and i was pumping away at the throttle for my life. but i usually use the throttle first time to start the car anyway, just to help it start, should i not? and if anyone from the northern suburbs is reading this, I'd still apreciate someone giving it a quick look over sometime. and give me a chance to learn
-
If I don't find anyone close by any time soon, I'll give it a shot. cheers
-
well as embarrassing as it is, i think that might be a bit much for me, i just havent had the opportunity to learn. if i find someone on here to have a look, I'll be sure to pay lots off attention
-
my little ke55 coupe sometimes doesnt start straight away after about a 40 minute drive, longer and it's fine, shorter and it's fine, but around that mark usually takes 2 goes. that doesnt worry me though, what worries me is that all of a sudden this morning, it took a good 2 minutes to start. no idea why, I'm only just learning and have no idea what kind of things to look for / at. my only guess would be the timing. is there anyone around close to Wavell Heights that could maybe have a look in return for a 6 pack? I start work next month, therefore I'm pretty broke and need this thing to keep reliable cheers
-
yeh, I've got a manual, it's helped a real lot with other things. but it comes down to the fact that I'm just too new to this stuff, although i am learning a lot. thanks everyone for the help though

i didnt do the water pump on myself. but I'm going to have the fella do it for 600, it's through his own business. and will be done properly, like the head will be machined straight. I don't wanna screw anything up by risking doing it myself, at least this way i know for sure that it'll be fixed properly for a long long time.
-
I'm way too new to cars to do that myself. They quoted me $875 to fix, but the same guy will do it at his place for 600 (friend of a friend). looks like i'm screwed If someone lives close by and wouldnt mind helping me save a few hundred, please feel free haha. I'll pay a couple hundred
-
so it's looking like the head gasket.... so it's going to need to be done professionally.... it's going to be fun spending every dollar i get on it
-
If i take it to a radiator shop, will they be able to pinpoint a head gasket? or should i take it to a mechanic? just cause generally specialists are cheaper
-
idled it for another 10 with constant bubbling after the initial 2-3 minute warm-up. looks like i'm going to have to have a shop look at it. which sucks cause i'm dirt poor
-
i'll give it one more go this afternoon. if it still bubbles, i'll take it to get a pressure test done. thanks
-
i'll have to take it for a long drive to find out if it helped. so i'll do something within a week hopefully. should i idle it again without the cap though? cause i was still getting bubbles
-
So i did it for 50 minutes and by this time the bubbles were smaller and less frequent but i thought i should give it a rest. is this way too long? should i give it another go later? also, it only gave one big spit at 6 or so minutes in. after that was very slow overflow. i took a few pictures of the kind of bubbles it had throughout it needeed
-
i'll do that tomorrow. i'm new to this, so i thought a big spit meant bad haha. but shouldn't I only fill the bottle up to the bottom of the hose? thanks
-
well i got to the car and decided that i'd idle it one more time and if it leaked i'd replace it later today when it cooled down. but this time, after about 7 minutes or so the radiator spat out about a cups worth of fluid and then went down to being about half a centimetre from the bottom of the part where you can see. sorry if i'm bothering you with every little thing that happens. i just figure the more i say, the better chance you'll know what to do. is there anyone from around chermside that'd be able to help?
-
thanks, I'll get on that now then. but i'll still wait for tomorrow before idling that air out
