  1. well things didnt go as planned. theres no thermometer around here but the thermostat gasket was leaking a bit and i needed to replace the thermostat housing so i did both of them. then i parked on a dirt ramp and started then engine to get out any air and after a few bubbles the bloody thermostat gasket stated leaking again.... not wanting to screw anything up more i stopped it all there. I'll give it another shot at idling the air out tomorrow before i go up to chermside for a couple days. really hope the car lasts the trip. i've got another gasket, should i just replace the one on it or will it set overnight or something?
  2. is it a must to take out the thermostat to do that? it's brand new. and i'll see if there is a thermometer laying around the place too. and is it really a lot? it's only a small overflow bottle that was already half full, so it would have only been half a litre that it spat out and didnt take back I'll come back with my results tomorrow
  3. i've heard you can bleed the system to get air pockets out. firstly i don't know what bleeding is sorry, but does it sounds like something that could help?
  4. it was full before i left and when i got home it's short of just a little bit over the over-flow bottle's amount (the bottle overflowed a bit). havent tried without the thermostat. and it's mainly around 100km roads (i live in the country) but i usually sit at about 85 -90k's. and I'll take it to the pro's if i ever get money for it
  5. Well the car got hot today after just 30 minutes ... that's a first. I can't afford going to a radiator shop, does anyone here that knows radiators live near lowood or chermside?
  6. Thanks heaps man, you've been really helpfull. when i get the money i'll be doing that. hopefully it's just sucking air from somewhere. and thanks again :)
  7. and i don't think it's blocked. when i first had the problem we flushed the radiator out with a hose and it seemed alright. and the radiator doesnt look that old, it's been replaced at some point
  8. It leaves the overflow bottle full, only when it get's really hot though. half hour drives only leave a little extra in there. I've done the head gasket check a couple times, and i usually get a few bubbles and sometimes it does build up and overflow after a while. I'll see if supercheap has any of that head gasket-leak test liquid today. if it is the head gasket, is it an expensive fix? cause i can barely afford fuel at the moment :/
  9. I had a thread for this but i wanted to start over from scratch cause it was all over the place. So when my car heats up it's putting all the coolant into the overflow bottle and not taking it back. If i just go on 30 minute drives it's fine, but if it get's hot enough it puts all the coolant into the overflow bottle and doesnt take it back. when the car is cold again, I empty the overflow back into the radiator myself. Then it is good again for a week. I've replaced the thermostat and it has a new water pump. I'm thinking it might be the radiator cap, even though it's brand new it's for a recovery system set-up, but my overflow bottle only has one pipe going in it and i thought a recovery was meant to have two... I'm hoping the guy at repco has just given me the wrong cap. and really hoping it's not the head gasket any thoughts?
  10. god dammit, car ran nice and cool for a couple days then all of a sudden, hot again. Checked the radiator after it cooled down and sure enough all the cooling fluid is in the overflow bottle and my radiator is short again... I'm hoping it might be cause i've got a recovery system radiator cap without a recovery system set up, just the overflow. could this be it? I'm really hoping it's not the head gasket
  11. well it hasnt gotten even close to hot since i got that air out. hopefully that's my cooling system sorted for a long time. theres a lot more i have to do to the little thing
  12. apparently charcoal cannisters help with fuel economy. is this true? is it worth chucking one in? if not i'll just do the 'screw in hose' idea Thanks guys

    Ke55 Lights

so when i get a chance, probably tomorrow, I'll take off the steering wheel and clean out that whole area, see if that helps
  14. Sorry for making my third thread so soon, but i'm not the most experienced and i learn a lot from here so here's the deal. In my engine bay theres this little tube thing that isnt hooked up to anything, i think it might be sucking air, what is it meant to be hooked up to? and what size hose will i need to buy when fixing it? thanks
  15. so i've started the car 3 times and let it idle without the rad' cap. the first two times i forgot to open the heater and i was getting bubbles. the third time i opened the heater and i got some bubbles but they stopped. i let it idle for about 15 minutes and there were no more bubbles and it didnt get hot. I'm hoping that this was just trapped air from when we completely drained and flushed the radiator. is this a possibility? although i need to put on a new thermostat gasket cause this one is leaking.
  16. well my front muffler rattles so badly, i was going to have it replaced in a couple weeks from now when i got the money but this thing has come up. and i'm looking in my ke55 service & repair manual and it says that a restricted muffler can over heat the car. is this a possibility?
  17. there were small bubbles and ones about the size of marbles
  18. well i had the car idling for about 5 minutes and bubbles started coming up in the radiator, is this definately the head gasket or could it possibly be cause i had just topped up the cooling fluid and when it went down it's trapped a little air in it. i didnt want to run the car any longer cause it started to overflow from the radiator eveywhere.
  19. Wow thanks man, Firstly The radiator has been replaced at some point, cause this one isn't too told and I only bought the car 10 months ago. Also, it does look like the thermostat gasket is leaking so I'm hoping that the picture was that just leaking onto the side of the head gasket and coming down. I'm thinking that it's doing this because when I was putting in a new thermostat my father-in-law also put on some engine glue stuff to the gasket that he uses on his bikes. (our attempt to stop the over-heating). the coolant didn't have a dark tinge and I didn't notice any chalky residue. Also, before I start the compression gases test, I've just filled the radiator with the coolant that was in the overflow. could this have trapped in air giving me a false reading? I live in near Atkinson's Damn QLD if anyone is interested in having a look. Thanks guys for all the help.
  20. I'm up in Qld. I don't think there is any residue. but tomorrow i'll be having a big look. It's not the greatest angle, cause the thermostat housing is on the bottom left, ages away from the 'leak'
  21. Saw this this afternoon, feel like an absolute idiot for not mentioning it earlier. Does this mean it's the gasket? Also, i apologise for my lack of knowledge, I am learning though and we all started from somewhere
  22. Thanks, well I'll check it out tomorrow. It's looking like this is the case. How much do you suppose a new head gasket would be?

    Ke55 Lights

    I'll look into it. Thanks
  24. I'll check tomorrow everything tomorrow, but you mean turn on the heater while the car is getting hot and see if it cools down?
  25. So me ke55 coupe's headlights are little bastards. They've done this a bunch of times but eventually fix themselves, it's weird. but this time it's been a while. so at the moment when i turn them on nothing happens but my highbeams light comes on without any actual headlights coming on. when i push the stick forward for my high beams nothing happens either. but when i pull it forward for temporary beams they work? I'm guessing it's a dirty connection in the unit but it's hard getting in there to clean it out. any my auto elec is recovering from surgery for a couple months. any thoughts? Thanks, Jara
