  1. as far as timing goes I'm running 10' left of TDC.. what kind of gasket were you using? and got any advice? :D
  2. OK guys.. here is a video of the little beast running ---> drove it home from the tuners, was soo cool surprisingly responsive and when that boost comes on :o sooo goood! unfortunately i never got around to changing the head gasket and putting two on so i literally obliterated the gasket like litres of coolant pumping out the exhaust but didn't even get close to over heating so i have strong faith everything is fine and a new couple of gaskets is all it will need. its just so so cool now!
  3. Right guys i got it going! the car lives!!! so it was a number of things that was causing the issue but mostly it was the carby, after a full rebuild was running 100% better, then got a mild tune into it and now its running sweet. thank you so much for the patience, advice and knowledge you guys gave me! ill post a video up of the motor running into this thread shortly so we an all reap the rewards!
  4. block it and remove all your emissions stuff it does nothing. all just for some 1980's vacum system emissions genius
  5. for personal reasons not going back. thinking an old brittish car specialist or something as SU carb, but if anyone knows anyone good please do tell.. as i am at my wits end!!
  6. Can anyone recommend a mechanic Brisbane area who would know about and could work on these kind of setups?
  7. haha woo go team Turbo 4k... its so frustrating because I'm sooooooo close yet doesn't want to work.
  8. ok so it would ---i don't really know the word for it---- "BURST" fire faster than starter but not steady would just die right off again if i dropped starter, and the battery was on a battery charger the whole time so it couldn't be flat could it?
  9. ok so got a it firing now... i feel embarrassed to say it but it was TDC on exhaust stroke :( BUT it still wont stay alive, anddd my mid way through cranking the motor the starter motor stopped, i assumed it must be out a tooth or something turned the engine with wrench half a compression starter motor then turned fine but a weird clicking sound appeared almost like two bits of metal tapping and it wouldn't fire again form hat point :S
  10. Ill double check it again phil, its driving me insane... stupid engine just work dammit. ahaha
  11. hmm right well il get another clamp and anything you guys recommend to put in there like a gasket goo type thing to help? I also have a boost gauge that reads vacuum at the manifold, anyone have any ideas on what kind of vacuum PSI i should be seeing on crank?
  12. ye there is a tonne of fuel going in. and i would believe enough air.. as i said ive sprayed easy start into the manifold above cylinders and wont fire.. ive also put some on top of the piston through spark hole and it wont fire.. and yet it had perfect spark timing is TDC and engine was running beautifully not 2 weeks ago so comp should be fine... In sayign that one thing that suprises me is when I'm cranking the engine after like 20 seconds of crank fuel starts to piss out the bottom of the joint between carb and turbo. if that helps.
  13. but in that case when I'm putting raw fuel and aero start in the manifold after turbo t should fire :S
  14. and yes the motor ran well before turbo
  15. nah man double checked re check an repeated that so much to no avail.
  16. I have no idea if the carb has oil or that it needed oil.. timing is at TDC which is should at least fire at hmm holding open the piston is a terrifying idea as it has backfired out the carb a couple times. but nothing consistent.
  17. Hey guys. now i have found myself in a very hard place at the moment. I'm in the process of draw through turbo setup on a 4k ive done all the hard work and it should start. it has an zenith SU carb heaps of fuel coming through it, but it just wont fire. spark is good and everything else working perfectly, i just can't get it to start ANY help would be well received I have also tried tipping raw fuel into the manifold, and using aerostart everywhere I'm literally out of ideas.
  18. That sounds nearly identical to my issue.. However my linkages are genuine solex links.... I'm taking it to the track this weekend to run it at tops.. So I'll see if I can locate the issue this weekend I wish I had mates who new what a carby was.. Bunch of s-chassis drift nuts haha thanks man!!
  19. Well it happened yesterday with the bonnet open in front of me and several other stationary in neautral and all the links and throttle components returned as they should've.. Stupidly I forgot to check inside the carby throats to see if butterfly's where open. But it has to be internal just has to. The carbs are over jetted at the moment could that have something to do with it?!?
  20. I was thinking the possibility of the vacuum being to strong, because it will only ever happen after I've given it some whilst driving but on warm start I'm stumped on that one.
  21. ye rightio next time it happens ill have a geez down the barrells and see whats going on! thanks man! if it is sticking open how would i go about fixing?
  22. And that's the only photo of my setup I had on my phone my car isn't near me haha
  23. It's happened before on a warm startup so I figure it has to be internal it's not the linkages it's only ever sporadically and When I turn it off pump the accell a couple times turn it on its fine.. Has to be internal right?
  24. ye I'm running a big single return spring. I'm sure its not the spring not returning
  25. Hey guys, I'm having this problem with my engine of late, I'm running twin sidedraft c40 solex's on 4k, andill be driving along not flatfoot or anything then suddenly my throttle will go WIDE OPEN, without any input from me. its not the cable or the linkages. Any ideas as to what the issue could be? ( fresh rebuild in carbs too) -Kim
