thankyou for your reply Hiro. Now I'm confused, I thought that 1ZZFE engines were all VVTI's ? I have a 7A engine in my 1998 rolla. Obviously not the same thing. Perhaps I am incorrect but I am sure that I have read about aussie owned 1ZZFE engines. The one that I am looking at is a 2004 model corolla wagon.

hello, does anyone know what year(s) of manufacture was affected by the oil consumption/piston ring problem with this engine? Is there a particular engine number identification to look out for? Thanks

I've found a 1990's Corolla Csi full time 4- wheel drive wagon with under 100,000 on the odo which appears to be in good shape. It has a 4A-FE engine and an Auto tranny. Does anyone know if there is anything specific to look for when contemplating buying this car? I am thinking of the transmission in particular as well as any other problems that they might develop if not serviced properly. What would a good one be worth? Any advice gratefully received. Thanks v much.
