  2. For those of you who were enquiring, The 2011 event has now been tentativly set for Sat Oct 8 to Sat Oct 15( or the week later,...whatever in the Oct school holidays) Route is Adelaide to Birdsville and return via all sorts of wierd and wonderful 4wd sand tracks, exact route to be confirmed, but you'll see Lake Eyre in the wet.... a real experience Cost is only $750 per head(maybe less, TBA) including any sponsor signage you may desire we can provide for your car, also includes all camp meals 3 times a day, doesn't include any hotel meals where we may visit, includes mechanical assistance from our mechanic and 4WD backup, Suggest no more than 2 in a car unless you love getting continuously bogged BYO booze, camping utensils and sleeping equipment Your rolla must be RWD, pass a sound mechanical inspection, and be raised above normal height (we can source the bits , approx $100) No idiots yahoos speed freaks or wankers permitted, females and older kids ok,.... this is a Rotary Club of Regency Park fundraising event, and reasonable standards of conduct are required,.......... limited to max 25 cars first in and paid up cash get to go We normally have up to 20 cars from last years event as preference entries again, so ther'es probably only room for up to 5 new cars so be quick, entries fill within days each year It's more a difficulty and bush skill driving event than a speed event, it's not a race and there's no prizes, just a lot of good clean dirty fun Any 4WD can enter as a support vehicle with or without a Rolla mate entry, same deal entry forms available from our President Ken Adams at [email protected] Considering Variety rallys cost you over $10,000 plus plus plus this is a ridiculously cheap fun week Cheers pete
  3. thanks guys, I'll give it a go cheers pete
  4. Hi guys I successfully bush/desert rally a KE30 fitted with a 5K and a (KE70 I think) 5 speed box It's been fantastic over the past couple of years, but the gearstick now feels as though (perhaps) it's mounting nut or whatever may have become loose or dislodged If you keep a downward pressure on the stick as you change gears , everything works fine,........but if you don't keep the pressure down, or you lift the stick, it won't select any gears I'm not a mechanic, I'm a little bit handy, but I know zip about gearboxes Is this something I can reasonably easily fix myself, or do I take it to a mechanic? I don't mind removing the box, but I don't have the experience to strip and refit the gears Thanks for your help Cheers pete
  5. Hi Guys , this was once again great fun, happens in a desert somewhere every July for a week with my Rotary Club of Regency Park (SA) We're all petrol heads , and we actually raise money for charity with this event, even though entry cost is ridiculously low, (under $900 per person with all meals supplied for the week) We usually have up to 25 pushrod rwd 30+ year old corollas in it with approx 6x 4wd support vehicles A lot of the same cars repeat every year, but there's usually a few vacancies if you get in early Over the years , we've done Birdsville and Strezlecki tracks ,..... Simpson Desert crossing, ......Cameron's corner/Moomba desert/Arkaroola.....Victorian Deserts/Border Track..... Ceduna Googs Track/Kingoonya.... and this year Mt Ives station/Lake Gairdner Circuit A couple of clips from this year can be viewed, ...my KE30 is the white one No. 21 with the Penguin mascot on the front grille and the small flasher light on the roof Go to www.youtube.com/watch?v=xVa24Zvv3p.w. Cheers pete
  6. Had problems in my last 2 rallys with mud/sand/grit getting into clutch housing. Cost me a clutch last time,so put an Extreme comp unit in , and this time I've done in the thrust bearing whilst the new clutch still feels ok Toyota have a $47 listing for a boot for a KE70 5 speed(which my box probably is), but they're unavailable even on order from Japan Can anyone help with any ideas, or a conversion option using another similar boot from a different car model ? I've tried adelaide rubber vintage auto suppliers and spare parts hotlines also but no luck Thanks Pete 0413 133233
  7. ok..........I've just left the rally social bbq , and there is one cancellation of a corolla entry, so you can enter a car, or just enter as a passenger/co-driver. the beauty of this event is that, whilst it's challenging, you also have full mechanical/retrieval backup..........ie no matter what happens to your car, they get you home again. This is not a full on rally , it's a social event, ......that you can get into as hard ,....or as soft as you like, and you've always got a 4wd to get you out of any shit you may get into. and if you need a car , i have a spare car , a ke50 in good nick ,advertised for sale in the forum here I'm also told today that the daily runs are not that hard.........the hardest bit is the last day , from which you can detour if you wish, and travel home on the bitumen Call me if you're interested Cheers pete 0413 133233
  8. You can google Mt Ive Station yourself.......it's approx 100km west of Iron Knob Logistically , we can only cater for approx 20 Corollas each year , and last year entrants get 1st preference, but if we need cars next year I'l let you know cheers pete
  9. HI, ..........I'VE BEEN DOING OLD COROLLA DESERT RALLYS WITH THE (SA) ROTARY CLUB OF REGENCY PARK FOR THE PAST 4 YEARS, WHICH HAVE INCLUDED CAMERON'S CORNER/MOOMBA GASFIELDS/ARKAROOLA/ STREZLECKI TRACK, BIRDSVILLE TRACK/SIMPSON DESERT CROSSING, VICTORIAN GREAT SANDY DESERT, GOOG'S TRACK (CEDUNA TO NORTH) ETC CARS NEED TO BE 30 YO PREPARED PUSHROD ROLLAS, AND WE'RE FULLY SUPPORTED BY PLENTY OF 4WD'S AND MECHANIC RALLY INCUDES ALL YOUR MEALS PROVIDED FOR A WEEK AND COSTS ONLY $400 PER HEAD THIS YEAR WE'VE AGAIN GOT A FULL FIELD OF CARS, BUT 3 OR 4 CARS AND A 4WD HAVE ONLY A DRIVER, SO 3 OR 4 SPOTS ARE AVAIL AS CO/DRIVER OR PASSENGER. CONCEPT THIS YEAR IS A BIT DIFFERENT......INSTEAD OF A ROUND ROUTE, WE ARE GOING TO DRIVE TO MT IVE STATION ON SA WEST COAST AS A BASE, SLEEP THERE EACH NIGHT, AND DO DAILY BUSH TRACK RALLYS RALLY LEAVES ADELAIDE SAT JULY 10, AND YOU'LL BE BACK IN ADELAIDE JULY 17 BECAUSE OF THE MT IVE STATION ACCOMMODATION, THERE'S AN EXTRA COST THIS YEAR OF (YOUR CHOICE) TENT ACCOM @ $50 FOR THE WEEK OR A COMFY ROOM IN THE SHEARER'S QUARTERS WITH WHITE SHEETS AND BLANKETS AT $125 EA FOR THE WEEK GOTTA TELL YA , THIS IS THE BEST WEEK'S FUN EVER, FOR BUGGER ALL MONEY, THAT YOU'LL EVER HAVE WITH A GREAT MOB OF BLOKES (AND A FEW WOMEN USUALLY) CONTACT ME, PETER EMES 0413 133233 OR ROBIN MITCHELL 0413 044457
  10. Thanks, Love to have you, but we're oversubscribed already...........usually have 12-15 cars plus supports, this year got 22 which might prove to be a few too many as it is Please keep in touch, and enter around November to get in next year's July madness cheers pete
  11. Each year I compete in a rather unique desert rally run by a Rotary Club of petrolheads Entry is restricted to 30 plus year old Corollas, we have 20 this year ,supported by 6/7 4WD's, cost is only an amazing $375 per head all meals supplied Over the years , we've done Moomba deserts, Birdsville etc tracks, Victorian Eastern Deserts, and even the Simpson Desert Crossing This year, we're finding our own ways to Ceduna, then doing the Googs track through the tribal reserve deserts(about 200 sandhills) finishing up around Moomba, then a cruise to Adelaide We're fully subscribed, mostly older blokes, a few women ,a few kids,.......and one of the older blokes, a really funny old coot , and good company, doesn't have a codriver/passenger. He's quite ok on his own, but the seat is available if it suits you If you have a bloody good sense of humor , love brilliant food, don't mind a drink, and love roughing it a little in the outback, you'd never have a better week for $375 We of course endorse all safety precautions, and have fabulous mechanic backup..........nobody ever gets stranded or left behind Cheers pete 0413 133233
  12. Thanks guys, we're pretty right now..........couldn't get the new 5k to run properly on either of the 32/36 webers which had ??? jetting, so drove it to Auto Carbs on a 3k carb, threw the webers at them.............they fiddled up better linkages, rejetted the better weber couple of goes, finally got it running like a dream for $200 over 2 days,.....good blokes Can't believe what a great car this is now with the 5k plus weber with 5 speed box, the ke30 is a totally different car,........love it!............gotta get the extractors and 2" system on now , sump guard and spring lifters, and i'm just about ready for the desert rally. thanks pete
  13. Jees Phil, how bloody simple is that? I've never run a 5k before, can you tell me the correct oil capacity? thanks pete
  14. Got a fresh 5K just fitted into my KE30, 5K didn't come with a dipstick, so am using the stick out of the old 3K, but I'm sure it's not the same Can any one advise on the difference, where should the correct 5K oil level read on a 3K stick ? Trying to get a 5K stick, but no luck so far Thanks pete
