  3. Hi guys. I have recently acquired a RA40 and am wishing to convert it to an amateur rally car. It's no show car, so don't get upset about it's new life as a bush basher. This will be my first foray into motorsport, so any advice is appreciated. I have read Altezzaclub's fantastic thread on How Not To Build A Rally Car, which has been an excellent read. First order of business will be to strip the interior, address sump plug, rear main and diff pinion leak. Additionally, I went to bleed the brakes the other day and nothing came out of the breathers on the rear drums! I suspect either a dodgy master cylinder, or a busted diff line on t…

  4. Hello All! I am new to the AE82 chassis but not new to Toyota at all. I recently imported an AE82 rally car from Denmark to the US with the intention of gravel rallying it here. However, gravel rally suspensions are almost impossible to find save for a few extremely expensive options. In my research, it seems that it’s possible to bolt up AS92 coil overs to the 82. Can anyone confirm? There are many more options for the 92.

I thought I'd start this for fun, its just what I've been doing over the covid time. Josh used to navigate for Steve in the rally car, although he had his own 180B rally machine at the time. Since then he moved down to Blayney, about 40Km from Orange, and seeing I'm not building rally cars up in Walcha I've been giving him a hand. These days he has an Evo3 for gravel work and an Evo5 for tarmac stuff, and a few cars lying around. I figure we can build cheap entry-level race cars as a sideline business, Josh does roll cages and general fabrication as a business, so we are well-suited for it. The first candidate was a rusty orange KE70 we knocked up last year as a gym…

Received an email from T3 this morning, including a gallery of pics they took at the above event. For those of you, who love looking at restored classic Toyotas; where attention to detail, & money has no limits, you will enjoy scrolling through these pics on the T3 FaceBook site. https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.5630226273683848&type=3 Enjoy ! 7. The T3 AE86 will live again! How is it we forget that passion is the real reason we do these things? I started working on my AE86 in 2000: constantly developing parts, tracking and daily driving it until it reached its peak completed form with the F20C installed in August 2004. I enjoyed the hell out of it all the way up until about 7 years ago when I drove to our new shop in Shingle Springs and we tore into it for new parts development. Over the next few years, the car slowly disintegrated into a pallet of loose parts. I had a few excuses for why…

Noticed last night, that episode 23 has been released, & watched it over breakfast this morning. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vG1p336CZH0 This has got to be the most over engineered car I have ever come across. I'd hate to see what would happen, if they stack it, on its initial run, after it is completely finished. It would start a whole new series, i guess. The Blinky Project Repair. That would take another 4 years. I only keep watching it, because I want to see how they get the engine to function, in such a small space, with ancillaries, some of which they haven't decided upon yet, like the "turbo" ! Please . . . . . . . lets get to the e…

  11. Well, here we go again! ..as a follow-on from the last project, extremely successful but typically short-lived... http://www.rollaclub.com/board/topic/64027-how-not-to-build-a-rally-car/ We started yesterday on this poor unsuspecting AE71 that thought it was going to live its days out quietly under a tree... after the tree had dropped a branch on it and smacked in the roof and screen, allowing Steve to buy it for $300! I started on the interior while Steve raced around trying to find where to store everything. By morning tea the car looked like this- The back looked like this- and the front looked like this- I really wonder how much of these…

The long awaited Haltech R5 VCU, is now apparently available for sale, in the past few days. I've followed it's evolution with interest, as it is an entirely different concept. HALTECH NEXUS R5 VCU Despite being aimed squarely at the motor sport industry, it has the ability to be able to control just about everything, in an ordinary automobile, from just one controller/box. So gone is the ECU/EMS tag, & in with the VCU, which stands for Vehicle Control Unit. There appears to be enough outputs on this controller, such that every light, horn, windscreen washers/wipers, radio, etc., can be controlled from this VCU box. Explanation of Haltech…

Had not come across this video previously, but spotted it, last night; strangely, when researching/Googling, fitting Toyota East West engines into rear wheel drive cars. ( perversely, this is exactly the opposite) ie: Fitting a rear wheel drive engine, into a front wheel drive car. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a4xmry2sn8M It is absolutely amazing what can be done, when "lack of money", is not a factor. It's like Project Binky on "Super Steroids". Wouldn't we all like to have a workshop like that ? Even their "lounge room", with the wall mounted body art, blew me away. Enjoy ! Cheers Banjo P.S. Another great Leyburn Sprints. Fantastic weekend, of great fun ! My very favourite was the 73 Rolla of John Tyson, immaculately prepared, & sporting a 5665 cc V8, somehow shoe-horned into into the engine bay, with great precision ! The Shannons Show n Shine was also excellent. This was my standout of the classics. My guess at first sight from a distance, was a very early Alvis. Turned out to be something much rarer. Any guesses ? https://www.tradeuniquecars.com.au/feature-cars/1709/jaguar-ss1-review And how about this pit crew, who travelled & lived in style ! Cheers Banjo

Not quite motor sport, but some could argue ? You've got to watch this video, from SCA, & our two friends Marty & Moog, from Mighty Car Mods. Watched it, & recognised the setting, as it's a road I use it quite often, as a short cut/scenic drive from Beaudesert to Grafton, via the Lyons/Lions Road just north of Kyogle in NSW. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1JPm23WpjqY&utm_source=edm&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=MF_SCA01_2019_WK15_SW Cheers Banjo

  24. Hey Fellow Racers, I recently shot a view from under my KE30 whilst at the track; I though some of the suspension nerds might find it interesting (me included!). There's so many little features in the footage that you just don't see from in-car video: watching the tyre contact patch, the amount of tyre deflection, suspension travel, body roll ect. From this I found some obvious ways I can improve the grip of the car through the corners, check it out: Circled in the picture below is where the (poor) camera was mounted. The lens on the case ended up smash haha, but that happened in the paddock and not on track.

  25. I ran into one of The Girl's boyfriends while up in Armidale earlier this year who said he had an RA40 rally car. I said to bring the crew & stay with me for the Orange Rally on Sept 15th as I'm at home by myself usually. We unloaded the car and the first thing we tackled was the driver's seat position.. Too far back, too leaning back and too low, typical bloody race-car driving style. I chopped up some 1/2" water pipe I had lying round and lifted the back of the seat 50mm, then said I'd come up to his place and sort it out at the end of Uni term. I managed a couple of photos in the Orange rally, and the car did sit low.

Whilst in Canberra over Christmas, helping move my son into an apartment he had just purchased, I happened to spot a DMC-12 DeLorean, in the apartment complexes underground car park. I've never seen one in the flesh before, as there are so few of them in Australia. I had of course seen them in auto mags over the years, which is why I recognised it. To be truthful, my first impression at a distance was, it must be a replica. However, after walking all around it & looking closely, I realised it was the real thing. I'm back in Brisbane now, & started researching it, to make myself fully aware of the history of this extraordinary bit of automemorabillia. …

  27. Did my annual pilgrimage to Leyburn at the weekend in my KE30. What a great weekend as always ! Beautiful weather on Sunday, & this event just gets better & better, & never disappoints. The track record was broken for the first time in quite a few years, & there was 209 entries, each getting in between 6-8 runs, over the 2 days. Shannons Show & Shine saw some beautiful exhibits. The racing got very fierce on Sunday afternoon, as the opportunities to lower one's times reduced. A few KE20 Rollas there. https://1drv.ms/f/s!AhTw-QJW1b_6h3-6fgN1V6Z6Yr86 A few pics here, if you'd like to take a look. Cheers Banjo

  28. Hey all. Been going to Sydney motorsport park quite a bit lately as my young son loves racecars. Last few weekends there has been a bloke out there with a white ke30 fastback with a rotary in it. Last time out he was having gearbox issues however. Last weekend there was also a blue ke30 with a rotary absolultely dominating all the other cars at the track. Had NSW plates that read along the line of BRRRP or similar. Very tidy and straight car! Heres a vid I made of it if anybody wishes to have a look. Anybody else frequent eastern creek with their rolla as these are the only two I have seen out there in some time. Seems all the oth…

Calendar Feb 15 - TCCA Werribee Mar 1 - PAC Pakenham Mar 29 - NCCA Werribee Apr 19 - DSCC Deniliquin May 3 - PCCV Pakenham Jun 21 - FFCC/TCCA Altona Jul 18 - BCC Bendigo Aug 16 - HAC Colac Sep 6 - SEAC Mt Gambier Oct 25 - HSCCV Laverton Nov 15 - VMCi Pakenham Sep 25/26 - AMC Bendigo A mammoth 11 rounds! I wonder if instead of including all but your worst 2 rounds towards the points, they drop your worst 3 this time? More rounds mean the series is more likely to have meetings clash with personal commitments.

Hi all, I'm looking to fit a race seat and harness in my ke30 for a few sprints and hill climbs (not for road use), my question is about how to do it properly. I have read all the CAMS regs etc and from what I understand for club level sprints as long as its all installed as per CAMS regs it will be OK. Do you have to have an inspection done by a CAMS official and get them signed off? or are the Scrutineers at events licenced or CAMS approved to OK things on the day? I'm a bit unsure. Am I correct in thinking that mod plates are only required when the car is being used on the public roads? Also rear mounting points for a harness in the KE30 on the parcel shelf usin…
